A Long, Long Time Ago
November 21, 2013
Today is Thursday and I'm horning in on Kym's Throwback Thursday to post the picture I promised our Cookie I would share.
It was July, we were in a park across the street from our appartment, Dayton Ohio (we spent the summer there on occasion throughout my life). I was 5 years old. I did not have the fancy cowgirl outfit, but my dream was to become a cowboy, ala The Lone Ranger or Hopalong Cassidy. The only thing I remember of the horse was its gait during my short ride and the twitching of its ears.
Dad has always loved to take pictures, which he still does today. He's been going through his slides from years past and digitizing them for us. Last week he sent a large batch of photos, many of which I've only seen in black and white.
This photograph was taken on my 4th birthday. My mother made the skirt and I still remember the feel of the soft corderoy fabric, the blue floral pattern, and how much I loved it.
What a cutie pie you were on that horse! And so proud in your birthday outfit, too. I love seeing these photos. More, more!

Do you remember the crinolin slips we wore under the skirts?

How wonderful! I love the JOY in your face as you sat on the horse -- and the pride in your new skirt (and birthday!) just makes your face beam. I LOVE Throwback Thursdays!

Look at those long legs! I can tell those pictures are you. Your smile has never changed. And, I do adore the skirt with the pretty (and, I'll bet scratchy)blouse. Your Mom, and mine, was an awesome seamstress!!!!

Thanks for sharing these, Margene. You were a cutie pie! My mother made all my clothes, and I can still remember a significant number of them. Some of my best memories of us are of me trying to stand still for fittings. I'm glad Cookie made you share!

Oh, so sweet! I really see "you" in that photo with the horse. I love Throwback Thursday but don't usually get my, um, photos together in time!!

Just darling! Pony tails on a pony ride were a requirement, weren't they? Love the birthday outfit. So pretty.
This makes me want to start scanning photos again. I blame you. xo
