Suits Me
January 04, 2013
"May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you're wonderful, and don't forget to make some art - write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself."
Neil Gaiman
Neil Gaiman is one of my favorite authors and because he has such a wonderful voice, I love to listen to him read his books. I can hear him saying the phrase above. Just as Kym did, I saw this quote and knew he was speaking to me. I know I'll read many fine books and kiss someone who thinks I'm wonderful and, some how or other, I know I'll make art, but what I really want to do is surprise myself and live with some "good madness".
I'd also like to simplify more, move more, notice more and realize more. If I had to pick a word for 2013 it would be "more". Not more stuff, more food, more of what is tangible, but more of what is truly the love of living.
To more!
Happy New Year Margene! I'll have to check out Neil Gaiman...

To more!
I've seen him in person a couple times - once was earlier this year, at the Fitzgerald Theater as part of MPR's WITS series (with John Darnielle of the Mountain Goats!). The other time was when he was introducing the band the Flash Girls at a CD release party in a bookstore's back room.

What a wonderful quote and exciting plans. The best advice I ever got from an art instructor was to look UP. Literally. He said we don't look up enough and miss amazing things. Damn he was right.
