Lotsa Socks
January 05, 2005
With all the other knitting that I did during 2004 there was little time left for socks other than those for the Six Socks Along. Here are the four that we've been given to knit to date. I haven't worn a single one so that when all six are finished I can take a picture and then have six new socks to wear NEXT winter. That leaves me nearly barefoot this winter but it should be worth it...just think of six new socks all at once! First up was the deep purple pair called Cloverleaf (Koigu), then came Making Waves (Lorna's Laces), Fluted Bannister (Opal), and the latest sock is Beaded (Jaeger Alpaca). I took the easy way out and bought beads big enough to slide the yarn through. They were knit into place with one plain row between the beaded rows...nothing fussy and the effect needed was achieved. Here they are posing with a little pincushion I made that is housed inside a matching paper mache, hand-painted box (added just for interest).
So far I'd have to say that the Fluted Bannister is my favorite for the knitting and for fit. Just two more socks to go in this KAL with the next sock available on February 1st.
That gives me more than a month free of sock knitting...SO, I joined the Sockapalooza that Alison is hosting. It sounds like fun to knit a sock for someone secret and to then receive a pair from a different secret someone. Once again let me remind you that Susan's Hugs and Kisses Sock can be purchased with all proceeds go to Oxfam for tsunami relief. Also, you can join Marti in the KAL. Tell all your buddies about it, too so they can buy the pattern and join in.
My sister Neena decided to follow me into blogging, so I gave her a Typepad blog and she is starting to chronicle her Holiday journey. Keep watching as she takes wonderful pictures.
Hillside Samplings!I love the pincushion,Margene, tomorrow is my LNS going out of business sale, sadly the hurricanes destroyed the home & shop, I'll miss her, I haven't crossed a stitch since seeing the mess.

I also gave the gift of a blog this year (great minds think alike!). My friend isn't sure if she wants her space public, so I might never know if she actually used the gift --- I hope Neena likes it as much as we do!

Wow, those beaded socks are absolutely gorgeous. I don't know how you can wait until next winter to wear them!

Great socks, Margene - I love the different colors. After knitting only one pair, I think I'm hooked. This post has motivated me!

Great socks! And I love your sock blockers (Is that what they're called?). Very cool.

Delayed gratification...I was never good at that!

I'm making a pair of Koigu socks in the same color as your Cloverleafs! Hopefully this year when I *really* learn how to make socks I'll be as prolific as you. And the little pincushion is adorable!

I admire your fortitude. I may be good at stashing yarn, but I'm not particularly good at stashing handmade socks. They usually go straight onto my feet when they're finished. And I don't think your feet will totally freeze this winter ;-)

Wow! Your beaded socks look fabulous! I joined the Six Sox Along late and am still trying to decide which sock to try first... maybe the Fluted Bannisters then!

Happy Sockuary!

I'm wearing my Fluted Banisters right now. My favorite to knit so far was Making Waves. Those things just knit themselves.
Youre beaded socks are gorgeous. My one so far is just horrible but I don't care enough to rip it out. :(

Yep. Fluted banisters are my favorite, too. I've actually knit three pair of them. This is the first time in my five years of sock knitting I've used the same pattern three times.
Now my sons family across the country have asked for some of my hand knit socks, and I'm going to make them Fluted Banister because the pattern is attractive and the fit is forgiving.
Your beaded socks are very pretty. ALL your socks are very pretty.

After seeing your socks, you had persuaded me to join the knitalong (only four socks late *grins*). Now, after seeing all your socks together, I am CERTAINLY glad that I joined. Great inspiration, and beautiful socks.
2005 will be the year of socks, I DO believe it!

OOOOOOOOO...you have inspired me to do some socks! I don't know which ones I like the best...I'm going to google the Fluted Bannister and see if I can find that pattern. Actually, the sock photo has some fine art qualities itself.
Yea Margene! You get a big mitten thumbs up for this great blog!

All your socks looks great. I love the colour of the beads sock especially. I have finished 3 of the 6 sox along only. The beads sock still pending. I need to find suitable beads for it. Looking forward to see more sock FOs from you !

Margene, the beaded socks look great!! I'm still working on my fluted bannisters. Actually, that's a lie. They've been untouched for about two months now. lol.
