One of the best devices I've found for brightening my world during the long, dark nights of winter is to fill my home with light and color. This week I bought the brightest bouquet of flowers I could find. Fall is for sunflowers and gold is a very happy, bright color, indeed!
Do you have any other ideas to brighten up winter's cold days and long dark nights?

Flowers are a great way to brighten things up. It's a few bucks but it goes a long way. I also light candles and I know you do, too. I put out extra quilts and that adds color and warmth to our rooms.

Those sunflowers will darken even the darkest corners! Beautiful! I'm also looking for ways to create light during the darker days/nights. I'm thinking candles. . . tiny twinkle lights. . .and color!

I'm pretty sure winter is why I'm so drawn to yarns such as my beloved Hundertwasser -- most of them are so colorful, bright and happy! My wardrobe tends to be dark/neutral even in the warmer months, but there's so much color elsewhere in the world then that it's "OK"; I love wearing a pop of color in the winter -- bright scarves, shawls, cowls, mitts, etc.
Those sunflower are practically GLOWING! So beautiful -- always a favorite.

Oh, how I love sunflowers! I use afghans, quilts, and candles to warm up in the winter. It's not the cold I mind so much as the dark. I find that the new light bulbs give off a rather cold light and am always looking for new ways to light up my house in winter.

Beautiful sunflowers! I couldn't agree more with you about increasing color in the house during the dark and dreary days and winter months.

Aren't they wonderful?!
I am trying to take better care of myself because with shorter darker days it is so easy to just give up, and we can't have that. I'm removing people who aren't good for me and encouraging relationships that are. Oh, and trying hard to find time every single day to just stop and take it all in. Time moves so fast now. This part of my life will be over before I know it and I won't have anything to remember it by.

Gorgeous flowers, Margene. I agree that filling your house with color and light (the thing I miss most in the dark, dreary months of winter) will help stave off feelings of gloom. I get very down in the dumps when the days are shortest, and I find that baking helps me, oddly. Keeping my hands busy and filling the house with good smells works well for me, though not for my waistline. Perhaps I should visit neighbors and drop off the baked goods?! At least that would get me out of the house.

Going to a warm place with colourful flowers and birds, like Hawaii, is the best thing. Or knit with bright, cheerful colours.

I was gifted an aero garden. It's nice to have fresh tomatoes or salad in the winter.

I turn on all the lights. It sounds so stupid, but to fill the house with light makes me feel less like winter is winning. Your sunflowers are so pretty and cheery. Happy Hump Day, Sweetie!!!!

I like Cheryl's response. I'll ditto her technique.

Candles (for a real treat: real beeswax candles with their sweet honey smell), home-made soups with lots of colourful vegetables, the smell of apple pie.
Gorgeous flowers!
