Since the weather is mostly cold, drearily gray with hit and miss rains, we've taken advantage of every bit of sun, every tiny bit.
Smith has been planting throughout the "spring", with onions here, radishes, lettuces, peas and potatoes there. The little sprigs (barely) survive and are ever grateful for the little rays of warmth that come their way. So are we.
My obsession with TV cooking programs is the only reason I know we need to grow cipollini onions in our garden. With my need to eat gluten free, and our new favorite past time, gardening, there has been a renewed love of cooking (and eating). Some of our best meals have been created with ideas gleaned from network chefs and food blogs.
When I mention the garden I know you want to see the chickengrrls. The grrls are a lovely lot and they love being fed by hand. Sunday I sat in the coop and fed them bunches of lettuce and, just as they finished, Smith showed up on the wrong side of the fence, with morsels of goodness.
Egg production is still high and, every once in awhile, we find a double yoker. Can you believe how long that egg is? These little jewels are the best eggs ever...guaranteed.

Well, I need to get out and buy some seeds today. Thanks for the kick in the pants! No, seriously!

I adore your sharing the garden with us. If it ever stops raining here, I have tons of gardening and yard work to do! I know it's coming, Margene, and we're both gonna go straight into summer!

Can't believe we're awakening to yet another stormy day! With snow, no less. I hope the chicken grrls are huddled together over there in their coop!

That's quite an egg! And double yolkers are fun. I discovered one a few weeks ago. I had hardboiled it so it was quite the surprise when I peeled it and sliced it in half for deviled eggs.

The rain, buffetted by wind, is blowing against my window this morning... happy to see your mountain silhouetted by the sun! I never tire of garden tales or chicken grrls!

Nothing like fresh eggs!
We had two days of sun and now it's back to rain. *sigh*

Gardening is so good -- even when the weather is so bad! I can never tell if I cook because I garden, or if I garden because I cook. Strong link, there. Wow! That is some egg! Must be a challenge to lay an egg that size. . .

That's a serious egg! One of the grrls is definitely an over-achiever.

Wish I could send some of our sunshine your way. It is far too dry over here. That is a huge egg! Must go and feed our chickengirls (and boy) now.

We just had the most frightening thunderstorm here! There was a lovely day yesterday, and I planted some seeds. It'll now be interesting to see where I find a lettuce or kale or collard seedling pop up because it's been washed away by the monstrous rains. At least it wasn't the hail I thought it was by the sound of the pounding against the window.... But still.

Eating so close to the Earth is very satisfying. Your photos are always inspiring.

You'll never be able to go back to supermarket eggs...

Such pretty girls! My daughters went with their dad to visit the new baby chicks at our feed store yesterday. They want chickens in a bad way!
