Well, maybe not kicking and screaming, but I just haven't wanted to get drawn into the Ten on Tuesday posts. Tuesday is a good day to rest. Anyway, I love reading, always have, and decided to post the books that will take me through the summer. Ten on Tuesday by Carole
10 Books on Your Summer Reading List
- Outlander by Diana Gabaldon- This is 100% TeresaC fault. After just a few chapters I'm captivated by the story, the 34 hour story of Claire Randall's adventure in time.
- Tinker by Paul Harding - The latest Pulitzer Prize winner was on my list before it won. I hope it stands up to the publicity.
- The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest by Stieg Larsson - Read every single one of the Girl series and loved them. If only Stieg had lived a long life.
- Faithful Place by Tana French - This book will be out in July and I can't wait.
- Lark and Termite by Jayne Anne Phillips- The book club selection for August and I know little about it (yet).
- Little Bee by Chris Cleave - There has been quite a buzz about this book.
- Await Your Reply by Dan Chaon - Recommended by a friend so I know it will be good.
- The Last Child by John Hart - This book was on so many "recommended" lists I couldn't pass it up.
- The Bridge of Sighs by Olen Steinhauer- What's summer without a little espionage thrown in?
- My list could go on and on, but I think I'll ask for your recommendations for #10. What (more) should I read?

I wish I was reading Outlander for the first time again. I have the last one sitting on my bedside table waiting for me, it's my "treat" reading! I'm waiting for just the right time to savour it. I'm currently reading The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield and am thoroughly enjoying it. There's a lot on your list I've been eyeing as well. Enjoy your summer, Margene!

"The Manticore" by Robertson Davies. It changed my life.

The Outlander just didn't work for me. . . but I did like The Help (although I'm not raving about it). We read so many of the same books that I just don't have any good suggestions for you! Have you read A Yellow Raft in Blue Water by Michael Dorris? (Another author that should have lived longer. . .) It's one of my favorites. :-)

I was just going to ask for book recommendations!
One from me - I just read "The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane" by Rebecca Howe, and it was fabulous.
ANd it breaks my heart, too, to know that Steig had intended 7 (!) books about Lisbeth Salendar. Fortunately, the three books read as a trilegy of their own, and so the reader is left feeling complete. (A guild friend couldn't stand it and ordered the third book from Amazon UK over a year ago, and it very quickly got passed around.)

Tropper - This is Where I Leave You
Irving - Last Night in Twisted River
Russo - Straight Man
Mantel - Wolf Hall
Agree about Dorothy Dunnett

Thanks for your list. You might try Jane Gardam's Old Filth and The Man with the Wooden Hat (read in order). They're not new books; your library may have them.

2 books that are going on my "great books of 2010" list are Every Last One by Anna Quinlan & Imperfect Birds by Ann Lamott. I'm normally a fan of their nonfiction, but I think this is their best fiction yet.

I second (or third?) "The Help," but "Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet" is excellent as well.

I'd skipped out on this Ten for Tuesday since I don't differentiate between summer reading and all-the-time reading...but I might reconsider... :-)

hah. I also enjoy reading these, but have found that I seldom would have ten of anything on my list - and thus have relegated myself to the sidelines from this group.

don't stop with outlander! there are currently 7 books in the series, and she's currently working on #8, plus a 2nd outlandish companion to cover books 5-7 (i think). what, me obsessed? nah!

My book club read "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" recently. Wonderful read.
