Thanks for posting this, Margene! Voting today was a beautiful thing on a number of levels. Seeing people participate in democracy is always touching to me. But, also having the opportunity to cast a vote in such an historic election took it to another level.

It's hard knowing that my vote for president won't mean much in Utah (did you notice that they called our state on the networks about 1 minute after the polls closed), but I still feel great knowing that I participated.

NPR called it while I was driving home from SnB. I'm afraid to go to sleep -- will it still be true when I wake up??

My grandhildren have a chance to be the best they can possibly be and to know what that means. Thank you for this promise, for this dream, everyone who worked toward this. My heart is singing.

Lauren

Yes We DID!! This is such an amazing thing to have been a part of and I am so proud that our country did the right thing.

Congratulations America is right on!

melanie

Exactly - and Yes, We Can!

marianne

Yes, We Can!!! Like you I am just amazed and so very happy. I wept. That may have been the most beautiful speech I've ever listened to, I was SO very moved.

My kids are 16 and 11. I'm sure my son will remember tonight, and I hope my daughter will. I'm saving tomorrow's paper for them. I told my son that I can't think of a more historic (in a good way) event that he has experienced. It's quite an amazing evening.

Nancy

I'm with you! My whole family so, so happy!
I feel like a long nightmare will soon be over. Now we can really accomplish something!

Nancy

Tonight there is the possibility of hope we haven't felt in what seems an eternity. It has felt as though we were under the clouds of the grumpy old men. There is much work to do, not with a heavy heart but with a heart of promise.

Yes, we can.

God bless America.

Today has restored a portion of my faith in humanity's spirit. Everyone I know is celebrating. It was amazing to watch the coverage in Grant Park in Chicago and see the throngs of people, all races, all ages, all lifestyles, united in peace and joy and hope.

A good day!

D.C. is going crazy! Streets had to be blocked off as people streamed into them to celebrate. It took nearly an hour to get across town because all the pedestrians were running out to high five car passengers and the cars were honking out of joy and there was dancing and waving and tears of joy. Even now you can hear car horns in the distance...

What an amazing night. What an amazing city.

KarenJoSeattle

It was a big party in downtown Seattle with concentrations of thousands closing multiple blocks in two different areas. The overwhelming number of celebrators who looked to have voted in thir first or second presidential election bodes well for the future.

Nora

Isn't it wonderful? The tide has turned.

Carole

I realized last night that I've been holding my breath for months. The relief I feel is overwhelming. The hope I feel is amazing. Yes we can - and now we will!

Now, we can begin to mend.

I debated whether to take my daughters (6 and almost 9) to his last rally here in Virginia Monday night. I knew win or lose, it was historic. Now, I'm so very glad that I decided to take them with me because they can tell their grandchildren that they saw him the night before he was elected President. It was a wonderful night, people diverse and so friendly, and I couldn't believe Virginia wouldn't go blue after hearing him speak. I hope he is someone we all can all be proud to call President.

ruth

I'm still teary! What a wonderful moment for our country.

Chris

I didn't believe. Now I do.

claudia

This is a happy day.

Birdsong

The really amazing part is how that message was so loud and clear amongst voters, and how it affected decisions throughout the country besides who would be president. A new generation could finally see and feel the true power of democracy.

Ruth

I thought both speeches last night were wonderful.

Now for the healing, and the hard work ahead ....

mai

ditto, ditto, ditto. i cried last night, i cried this morning and i still have chills.

elizabeth

Hurrah!!!

Debbie

I am honored and amazed to be here right now and part of this momentous point in history. It's not that a black man has been elected to the most powerful position in our country and the world, but that a man has been popularly elected to that position based on his content and character, without regard for what the color of his skin happens to be. I am, for the first time in my life, proud of my country and the people in it. Good job, America!
