Knitting Blues

Since the weather is warming day by day thoughts are turning to bare toes and summer clothes (well, perhaps today isn't the best day to say that because the high may not make 50).  The main desire of my knitting has become (by demand) more summer sweaters.

Blue has always been one of my most favored colors, in part, because it brings out the blue of my eyes. *blink, blink* Over the years I've been swayed by pink, red and purple, but my heart belongs to blue.  Hanging around with Terry (virtually and in the flesh--does that sound wrong?) has brought back that love of blue in a strong way.  NBT the First was Rowan's Slosh Blue Calmer and the new NTB is Tinkerbell Blue.  I flinched a little at the name Tinkerbell but the color was just right and I love it.  Would it be wrong of me to start knitting the blues, too?

While Magknits has disappeared you can still find the instructions for NBT here or if the link doesn't work, search for magknits.com and then click on July 29, 2005.  Look under "Knit Us" and you'll find the link to the pattern.  Alison also said she'll make the pattern available on her blog.  It's a great, simple, wearable T and Calmer is the perfect yarn for it.

Yesterday started out as another cold and blustery day and to stay warm I had on wool socks, a sweater and, as I was walking out the door, I decided to throw a warm wool wrap over my shoulders.  I'd worn Seraphim the day before and looked for it again. It's big, soft, beautiful and warm, just perfect for the day.  However, it wasn't hanging out with my other lace shawls and my heart sank.  Maybe I'd left it at the office under my desk.  The minute I walked into work I looked and my heart sank again. OMG, it wasn't there and I just couldn't imagine where it was.

Actually, that's not quite true...I had a feeling I'd dropped on my way to the car and it was lost forever. Laurie lost her Wool Peddler Shawl that way and Terry has yet to find her Birch.  It's such a sad feeling to loose something you love to wear and this isn't the first time it's happened.  However, this story has a happy ending.  The landlord's secretary came in to my office just a few minutes later and she was carrying my lost shawl!  Someone had left it on her desk with no note...it was just there when she came in. Luckily, she recognized it as mine (an advantage of wearing lace daily!) and brought it straight to me.  Thank you to the unknown person who found it and took the time to leave it with the one person who could get it back to me.  It was my lucky day.

It just goes to show that once in a while something works out right.

Of course you can knit the blues, too! Just don't give up on "our" favorite color - RED! I'm so glad Seraphim was only lost temporarily.

Oh, I was so sad for ten seconds there! I'm so glad that that small lace part of your life was returned to you. Whew!

I haven't knit with Calmer yet, but keep hearing about it, so someday will have to try it out. Because summer will eventually come, even here. My theory is we will go right from late winter/early spring (it snowed again only three days ago here in Wisconsin) to summer with maybe a week of spring in between!

Oh, that terrible lurching of the heart when something precious is discovered missing! So glad to hear someone did the right thing with your little-Seraphim-lost. Nothing like a glimmer of hope-for-humanity to start the day, is there?

Knitting the blues beats having the blues every time. Enjoy. Socks are very patient. They don't mind waiting, and do understand about that 'bare toes' thing. ;)

I'm so glad you found your Seraphim. I lost my Swallowtail on the streets of NYC one night. It was devastating.

I had a similar experience the other day with my access card -- but Seraphim is so much more important.

Other people than Terry had better be able to knit the blues, because I love them too.

No, it isn't wrong for you to be Knitting the Blues!!!

And lucky you! Great find of that beautiful shawl. I keep hoping that Birch is turning up, but so far, no such luck. If I don't get it back, I hope someone is enjoying it.

I'm always surprised by the kindness of people and I don't know why. I experience kindness more than the other. Love Tinkerbell. I'll even clap my hands; )

Whew! Glad it returned to you safely. It woulda been heartbreaking - it's so lovely.

Brrrr - WTF? Below freezing here this morning!!

What a good person to return Seraphim!
And blue, pink, purple, red that side of the spectrum is all good, if you ask me!
(((hugs)))

Whew! I'm so glad you were reunited with your shawl.

We'll be lucky to hit 50 today. There's snow on my lawn.

Phew! The knitting gods were looking after you!

Whew! I hate that sinking, "where is it?" feeling? So glad your story has a happy ending. I'm still looking for my (gulp) engagement ring.

I'm still feeling that caught-in-my-throat feeling over my lost mittens. Sob.

I like happy endings.

Margene,

Seraphim is gorgeous. What do you think about about Koigu (KPPM)for Seraphim? So glad it flew back to you!

So glad you got it back! I would've been heartbroken for you!

Phew! It's all that good Karma you do. :D

Heart-stopping!! I'm glad it turned out happy for you. One can only hope that the land of lost knits is populated by happy, appreciative finders-keepers.

Almost makes me wanna sew little lost-and-found tags into all my handknits...

Oh my good Heavens. I was getting very nauseated as I read that story, thinking you didn't get it back. Whew. XOXOXOXOX

Oh I am so glad it was found! My heart just sunk when I read that it wasn't at work either. So much work!!! I hope it's not snowing down your way like it is up mine!!! But, if it is, you'll stay warm :)

auspicious for all concerned. welcome home Seraphim.

I am so glad it was found and returned to you that would have been just awful if you had lost it forever.

Oh thank goodness! It would have been horrible to lose such a gorgeous piece of lace. I'm so relieved! :-)

And if you feel like knitting blue, go on and knit blue. It sounds like the muse is whispering in your ear, and it's bad form to ignore her when she comes to visit!

How wonderful that you got your precious Seraphim back! Now if only it would STOP SNOWING!

Wow, that's lucky!

But what about pink? ;^)

I'm so glad Seraphim has been returned to you.

It must be in the air. I lost one of my handwoven shawls like that. I think it fell out of the car when I ran into the store the other day. It was: from my alpacas, hand dyed and woven :(

ahhh - so glad that the errant shawl reappeared. Blessings to the person who found it :-)
It must be an omen of good things to come !

You must be so relieved that the prodigal shawl returned home.

Ah, it's snowing in Denver. Happy May Day!

Hi Margene!

Sooo very happy that your beautiful shawl was returned! It's not hard for someone to see and appreciate all the work and time that has been invested!

I love a happy ending...

Whew. Glad to hear your Seraphim came home!

Blessings upon the person that found and returned your gorgeous Seraphim. There are so many really good people in this world.

Hi stranger. I love the blue and it will make a great summer t. It's snowing here today, so I'm still in winter mode.

Whew! How wonderful to have an old friend returned!

thank goodness you recovered it! green is so close to blue...how can you not love it??

Hurrah! I found my Wisp this week that I'd made with handspun and then promptly lost before even taking a picture! There must be some good knit-finding karma in the air.

Love your bit o' blue! Thanks for indulging my showing and telling on Saturday.

Oh, I'm so glad it was found! Have fun meeting the Harlot Sunday!

The blues are looking good here.

Oh my God! I nearly had a heart attack! I'm so glad that person found it and returned it!

That was a close one. Thank heavens for people who care for others possessions kindly.

That is gorgeous shade of blue! I'm glad to hear you found your shawl.

What a great happy ending!! I am so glad for you. I can't wear blues the same way as my eyes are "baby olives" (just doesn't have the same ring to it, does it?!), but I think you definitely should. Calmer is one of my favorite summer yarns.

You live right. :)

The Link to the NBT does bring up a Magknits issue but the Knit Us link doesn't seem to have the NBT pattern. Bummer. I really hope Alison publishes the pattern on her blog because I've yet to find the pattern.

Knitting the blues..singing the blues..both great blues!
I'm sending you virtual warmth from here on The Mayan Riviera..even a margarita or 6 if you wish..the weather is as beautiful as it needs to be..but the blue of the water..is comforting to the soul..

Oh, how lucky you were that some wonderful person returned the shawl.

Lucky you to have your Seraphim returned. I wore mine to MDS&W and was reminded of what a lovely pattern it is.
