Ten x 4
It's been quite a week! You know that feeling you get when things have gone well and it's all wrapped up...the time when you brush your hands together with the satisfaction of a job well done? That's just what today feels like. Birthday celebrations were better than wonderful (and continue) and the finishing flurry, along with resulting posts, were very rewarding. It feels like an ending and a new beginning and I guess it is. With it being a very busy week there hasn't even been much knitting time (damn!) and I seem to have run out of posting steam. So, I'm falling back on a random list to finish off the week. After seeing the movie meme spread around blogland and the new 10 on Tuesday meme, I decided to make another post of 40 on Friday. You get 4 different sections on 4 different topics....riveting, no?
One of Four - Random Bits
- It's been a tough week for Moxie (and us) as he was attacked by an off leash pitbull. He had surgery, but is doing very well and is now being humiliated by wearing a baby t-shirt. It's better than being a conehead which was bad for his poor psyche. He's bouncing back quickly and we're all relieved.
- This week was a little crazy so I still have not mailed the packages from my Blogiversary contest. They will go out tomorrow. Promise. (I hate making excuses, but please do excuse me.)
- My needlepoint students (I have 13) gave me a large and lovely gift certificate to a LYS.
- For the life of me I'm just not sure what to buy. It will marinate for awhile while I make up my mind.
- Can you believe I really don't know what yarn to buy, what project (beyond what's in my stash) I want to knit? Perhaps a new bag and some accessories will be fun.
- My main musical loves this week have been Bright Eyes and Lou Reed (always Lou Reed).
- I did get a little classical infusion by listening to Death and the Maiden quartet. I'm crazy for string quartets, too.
- I told Cindy I didn't think spring would come and that we would jump right into summer. That notion has been revised. It looks like spring will be here for the weekend.
- What's up Hollywood? The new movie Bonneville, filmed mostly in Utah, has a character named Margene, played by Kathy Bates. Big Love, on HBO, about a polygamist family in Utah, also has a character named Margene. Not many Margene's spell their name like I do. It's usually Marjean and there are very few of either spelling in Utah! I'm a little fed up with you ripping off my name, Hollywood.
- I haven't seen the movie as yet…hope to change that next week.
On that note...
2 of Four - Movie Bits
The rules:
1. Pick 10 of your favorite movies.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them on your blog for everyone to guess.
4. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie.
5. Looking them up is cheating, please don't.
~~~Movie Quotes- Neener, neener..bet you can't get one...no cheating. ETA: Look how good you are! I wouldn't know one and they're some my favorite movies!
In a world of secrets, love is the most powerful weapon. Blue Sky- Tygher Knits got this one right!If we forgive our fathers, what is left?Smoke Singnals - Katinka Good job!- If you can't share your secrets with your friends then what kind of friend are you?
The world is not made for people cursed with self-awareness. Bull Durham - Nancy! Way to go.It is a weird lullaby and so it is; it is mine.The Piano - Jennifer got it right!Why do you pee on your lemon tree?- Worlds Fastest Indian -MIM (She's good!)
This is dark chocolate. It comes all the way from Switzerland, Europe.Open Range- Nova (She has a great explanation as to why she knew.)Those women will do things to you you'll never forget.3:10 to Yuma - Mim (See, she knows her stuff!)Even if you do get the money, how do we know you'll come back?Silverado - CherylS (I knew she'd get this one.)I would've been much nicer. I would've just cut your face. Kill Bill 2 - Angela!
3 of Four -Ten on Tuesday Friday -10 Places You’d Take a Tourist to See in Your Hometown. Everything on this list is less than 30 minutes from my house. Pictures below (in order).
- Silver Fork Lodge - best breakfast in the West (maybe all of America).
- Great Salt Lake - a unique spot that is interesting and beautiful.
- Jordan Pines a big meadow area that's amazing year round.
- Donut Falls - easy hike on a wide trail through a pine forest, cold water to wade in.
- Willow Heights - short strenuous hike straight up through a large aspen forest to an old beaver dam and lake. Worth the effort.
- Snowbird- this resort has everything you need all year round...including the best views.
- Alta Ski Resort- even more scenic than Snowbird and if you come in the summer the wild flowers are blooming in profusion.
- Cecret Lake - a bit of a hike to a glacial lake, but so worth the effort.
- Red Butte Gardens - a variety of gardens for all seasons.
- Silver Lake - easy, gorgeous walk around lake.
4 of Four
- If you're still reading I applaud and thank you.
- It's the time of year for thoughts (and perhaps action?) on spring cleaning.
- There are piles of 'things' to be put away and I MUST get motivated.
- New summer clothes (pants and linen shirts) are in a (nicely folded) pile on my studio/junque room floor.
- They sit midst many other 'things', like yarn and roving.
- It is embarrassing to admit, more embarrassing (even to myself) to see.
- Must make a plan of action and start doing something about it this weekend.
- Who knows, I might be able to wear a few of the new clothes soon!
- Yeah, I'm not holding my breath.
- Moxie sez, "don't cry for me blogland"
Happy Easter Weekend!
Happy First Weekend of Spring (whether it acts like it not)!
Get well quickly, Moxie. Don't get too spoiled while you do.
Happy Spring, Easter, continuing birthday, and anything else you want, Margene. How many Margenes are there in Utah?
Poor Moxie. He looks humble there.
I haven't a clue on the movie titles. *sigh*
Posted by: Laurie | March 21, 2008 at 04:44 AM
Oh my! Poor moxie :( is anything going to happen to the stupidpoopyheadasshat pitbull owners? Gaaaaaaaaaaaah. I'm glad he survived, with tshirt. Poor guy.
I have no idea what those movies are!
And man, you live in an amazing area. You really do.
Posted by: bellamoden | March 21, 2008 at 04:46 AM
Big hugs and kisses to Moxie. Poor little baby!
Posted by: Kathy | March 21, 2008 at 05:00 AM
Doggy Biscuits for Moxie. I really dislike unleashed pitbulls!
I think Movie #5 might be The Piano.
Posted by: Jennifer | March 21, 2008 at 05:03 AM
Sweet hugs, kisses and favorite 'treats' for Moxie..that makes me sad, being the animal lover/owner that I am.
Happy Easter, Spring and may all the 'to do list'..happen..too bad that can't be electronic also.
Posted by: Dianne | March 21, 2008 at 05:20 AM
Maybe you could get Moxie tee shirts with sayings on them. Looks like he's feeling better though.
Posted by: bmom | March 21, 2008 at 05:22 AM
Can you believe I've been out there twice and I still haven't seen Great Salt Lake? Time to plan another visit, I think!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Posted by: Carole | March 21, 2008 at 05:27 AM
Oh MY.....I'm sorry, I did cry a little for Moxie. How scarey for the little guy and for you too. I just LOVE that little dog! I am glad he is ok!
Posted by: Kim | March 21, 2008 at 05:33 AM
I think #9 is the Usual Suspects.
Posted by: jody | March 21, 2008 at 05:35 AM
Happy Spring!
I've been off all week and Spring cleaning has been the order of the day. I can see the bottom of my closet for the first time in nearly 3 years!
Is number 4 Bull Durham? I love that movie.
Posted by: Nancy | March 21, 2008 at 05:56 AM
I think that movie quote #10 is from "Kill Bill". Am I right?
Argh, on the Pit Bull. I have a Pit that lives next door, and it just scares me. Luckily it's inside most of the time. When it isn't inside and the kids are playing in the backyard, I make them move to the front. It has jumped the fence in the past. Too scary.
Posted by: Angela | March 21, 2008 at 05:58 AM
You beat me! I can only remember one of the lines and I can't remember the movie,heh. Moxie looks so bedraggled and unhappy, but adorable. It's the shirt, I'll bet. Poor sweetie. I could rant for a week about off leash dogs. No matter the size they are a danger. End rant. My Mum was in SLC for work many years ago at a time when the lake was very low and all were very worried. It looks good in the pic. All your pictures looks wonderful. SLC is a beautiful city (per my Mum). You have a beautiful and wonderful SPRING/Easter weekend. And the clothes on the floor? They'll be there next week, too:)
Posted by: CindyCindy | March 21, 2008 at 06:03 AM
What a fun post!!
Oh, if Moxie only knew how adorable he is in that Baby T, he's wanna wear it all the time!
((hugs))
Posted by: Vicki | March 21, 2008 at 06:15 AM
I got as far as reading about Moxie and had to stop reading to send hugs. What an awful thing! I am so glad for Moxie and for you that he is recovering well - and looking adorable in his t-shirt.
I've been feeling a bit guilty because I know my daughter's BF who lives here with us wants a puppy and normally I'd say yes, but he wants a pitbull. I can't bring myself to agree to that. Moxie's experience alleviates my guilt a bit.
Posted by: Chris | March 21, 2008 at 06:24 AM
Poor Moxie! We hope he's feeling better, and we're glad he doesn't have to wear the cone of shame. Have a great weekend!
Posted by: Jenn | March 21, 2008 at 06:32 AM
*lol* I scrolled too far and left my comment in the previous post! haha! #10 is from Kill Bill 2.
Posted by: Miriam | March 21, 2008 at 06:34 AM
Also, #6 is The World's Fastest Indian. That was a GREAT movie! I watching it in an attempt to understand my brother who races. It really helped. :)
Posted by: Miriam | March 21, 2008 at 06:39 AM
Pooor Moxie. At least it's not the cone. The cone is so embarrassing to the poor doggies!
I'm so hopeless about the movie lines, it's shameful. I should KNOW these things!
Posted by: Norma | March 21, 2008 at 06:41 AM
Poor Moxie! I'm glad you posted a photo of him. He looks kind of cool with his t-shirt on.
Posted by: Karen | March 21, 2008 at 06:54 AM
Wow, complete with gorgeous photos! I can't wait to visit Utah again.
Moxie is looking spunky!
Posted by: Teresa C | March 21, 2008 at 06:56 AM
Aw, Moxie, you look awfully cute in your t-shirt!! I'm glad you're ok. Hope you and your people have a great weekend!
Posted by: Chris | March 21, 2008 at 07:04 AM
#2 is Smoke Signals -- a great film. :)
I'm so sorry about Moxie. :(
Posted by: Katinka | March 21, 2008 at 07:19 AM
(((((((((Moxie)))))))))) Get better soon! I'm sure you got in a few good nips. Movie 2 is Smoke Signals. I just watched for my Philosophy of Religion class and that's one of the sentences that I quoted for my essay on it. :D Have a nice weekend.
Posted by: Stacey | March 21, 2008 at 07:25 AM
Wishing a speedy recovery for Moxie! What wonderful pictures from your "hometown"!
Posted by: Margaret | March 21, 2008 at 07:35 AM
Your list of places to take a tourist makes me want to pack my hiking boots and come for a visit. Glad Moxie is okay.
Posted by: Wool Winder | March 21, 2008 at 07:40 AM
I don't watch many movies, so I'm clueless on those. (Is #7 from Forrest Gump?) Sorry about Moxie, but please don't blame the pit bull. It's the OWNERS' fault...they've obviously never heard of leash laws or Cesar Millan! (My son has a pit bull who is very sweet....would lick you to death and is wonderful with the little guys. It's not the pit bulls!)
Posted by: Marcia Cooke | March 21, 2008 at 07:48 AM
Poor Moxie! Glad he's feeling better, and please tell him he looks great in his shirt ;-)
I have to say, you've stumped me on the movies. Happy spring!
Posted by: Carol | March 21, 2008 at 07:54 AM
Oh! Oh! #9 Silverado!
Posted by: Cheryl S. | March 21, 2008 at 08:09 AM
Give Moxie a kiss for me. I don't know any of the movie lines (I should have known Bull Durham, since I love that movie too, but it's been a long time since I've seen it -- now I want to watch it again), but I'm hopping a plane to Utah next chance I get.
Posted by: Lucia | March 21, 2008 at 08:10 AM
I think I got carried away... I was also going to say that this year's wildflowers are supposed to be spectacular, so it will definitely be worth looking for. And would you believe, I've never been to Donut Falls?
Posted by: Cheryl S. | March 21, 2008 at 08:14 AM
Tie up the pit bull and shoot the owner. Poor Moxie. Poor you!
Gorgeous scenery! Fun lists. Your posts never fail to entertain!
Posted by: Roxie | March 21, 2008 at 08:15 AM
Oh, Moxie! :-( I'm so sorry he was hurt. Pit bulls have their ardent defenders, I know, but you never hear of an Irish setter ravaging somebody's sweet little pet, do you? :-(
I don't know any of your movie quotes. I feel lame.
Posted by: Beth S. | March 21, 2008 at 08:16 AM
I've already started my spring cleaning (then again, it already feels like spring here). I was SO happy to be home from my seminar that I spent 2.5 hours cleaning my kitchen last Sunday, then hit one room per night the rest of the week. Just the bedrooms to go!
Posted by: elizabeth | March 21, 2008 at 08:47 AM
I did read all the way down, I don't know any of the movie quotes, and I think I have only been to four of the places on your list of what to do in Utah. In 16 years. But I'm stuck on Moxie's accident. I can't imagine how terrifying that must have been for both of you. Was the pit bull attended by an owner, or did you have to deal with the whole thing yourself? How did you get her away?
While walking from the button store to Knit Purl in Portland we passed a needlepoint store, and it almost made me dig into my needlepoint stuff again. I have so many knitting projects I can't think when I would needlepoint, but it's tempting.
#8 is 3:10 to Yuma :)
Posted by: Miriam | March 21, 2008 at 08:56 AM
Poor Moxie! Speedy recovery wishes for him. Thanks for the lovely Utah photos. They lift the spirit on a windy, freezing cold day in New England. Happy Easter!
Posted by: Manise | March 21, 2008 at 09:04 AM
I hope that Moxie makes a full recovery. Irresponsible pet owners are such a problem. Mary
Posted by: Mary | March 21, 2008 at 09:20 AM
Aw, poor Moxie! I'm sure he'll come through it well by living up to his name. And he's SO cute in his t-shirt!
Posted by: Andrea | March 21, 2008 at 09:34 AM
Poor Moxie! How awful! I hope he's feeling better and continues to heal quickly.
Posted by: Karen | March 21, 2008 at 09:36 AM
Love your lists, and especially your gorgeous scenic pictures. Big kisses and ear scritches for Moxie!
Posted by: DebbieB | March 21, 2008 at 09:47 AM
Poor Moxie. Good to hear he's on the mend. Oh the indignity of being forced to wear a baby shirt!
Posted by: Hillary | March 21, 2008 at 09:50 AM
Movie Quote 7 is from Open Range. I saw the movie with my dad and now, ever time I see dark chocolate I think about that line (and when I cook with it, I say it in the kitchen...alot). Funny.
I think Hollywood has failed to recognize the potential of using the name "Nova" in scripts for mass consumption. I think it's a marvelous name; but, of course, I am somewhat biased.
Posted by: nova | March 21, 2008 at 09:53 AM
That poor little Moxie. No dignity at all.
Posted by: ruth | March 21, 2008 at 10:08 AM
It' TOO MUCH! :D I have a wandering mind you know!!! haha!
So, in addition to the oodles of mind comments I gave you....LOOK AT MOXIE! Honestly. He looks so darn cute in that t shirt. I know it's been terrible. More than terrible. So frightening and life altering really. And that dog should...well, you know how I feel.
But that FACE! I'm sending Moxie smoochies along.
xoxo
Posted by: sandy | March 21, 2008 at 10:31 AM
I hope Moxie feels better soon. And the owners of the other dog need to be fined and pay for Moxie's injuries.
Mimi says that even though Moxie is a dog she still hopes he will feel better soon. She sends him kitty kisses.
Posted by: Mia | March 21, 2008 at 10:37 AM
I am soooo jealous of your "tourist" sites. What an amazing collection of gorgeous spots, so close to home! My top ten would be pretty funny though - I might have to do that meme.
Posted by: Zarah | March 21, 2008 at 11:01 AM
Poor Moxie, hoping for a quick recovery too.
I need to visit some of those places you mentioned. The pictures of them are beautiful.
Posted by: isela | March 21, 2008 at 11:19 AM
it's been ages since i've been to a movie - like in a real theater....get well wishes and kisses to moxie....
Posted by: debbie | March 21, 2008 at 11:24 AM
I have no idea about any of the movies, but I do recognize some of the places you commented about. A bunch of my family lives near you and I have been to Alta (but during winter - it's where I learned to ski) and I hiked up to Cecret Lake the last time I went through the area. Absolutely gorgeous!
