Not a Post
Try as I might, nothing came to mind for todays post. The last two weeks have been crazy busy and all the fun and good times have caught up with me...I've hit a wall. You've already heard about my knitting (except the Rattlesnake Creek Socks which don't grow much), but are fun to knit when I get a chance. You've seen how nice the weather has been and the last two days have been much the same (can it really be spring?). You've heard me complained about my knitting setbacks and, well frankly, there isn't much else going on, at least not until tomorrow. Come back then for the excitement, I don't think you'll be sorry.
Today I have a few of my new favorite things to share.
Blogfree Val told me about Alice Waters new cookbook, The Art of Simple Food, a couple of weeks ago. She said all the right words about it and that made me buy it. The recipes and ideas are simple, easy, basic and elegant....good food, organic food, sustainable food, and easy to do...it sounded like heaven. I'll be trying my first recipe this weekend (if I can decide which one).
Devastator Double Bock! We love our local brewery/political commentator. Every year they take something from the Utah political climate and name a beer after it, such as, Polygamy Porter (started it all), Evolution Amber Ale, 1st Amendment Lager and now Devastator (after the destruction of downtown SLC) by the "powers that be". Since it's 8% you must purchase it in the liquor store...but it's worth the trip! You'll be devastated after just one (or two).
My new very pretty Sigg Bottle (pictures didn't work out, but you can see them with the link). It is metal and reusable a million times. It doesn't attract odor or emit unknown toxins like plastic can. They are stylish, cool and easy to carry around. Bet you can't pick just one (I have two so far).
Anne's new Wooly Wonka shop, redesigned and built by the fabulous KimG is up and running! It's easy to navigate and full of tempting lovelies. Anne's yarn and roving are so beautiful and I love they organic colorways she produces. Her first anniversary is on March 1st (a very good day) and she'll be giving prizes all month long. Check it out...you're going to love looking around and shopping there!
New yarn must be included in any favorite post and this is my new favorite yarn...Manos Silk Blend in the colorway Violets. Mmmmm, if Spring wasn't on the door step I'd start a hat!

That cookbook sounds good. The new yarn is beautiful! I hope your nice weather continues.

I don't mind that you couldn't find anything to blog about. You seem to be filled with all kinds of chatty news. It's nice to just hear "stuff" from you. I love Alice Waters. She's an amazing lady who has helped this country become more aware of our food and its sources.

You did okay considering you had "nothing" to blog about.

Lots of nice things here and you are right...the Sigg Bottles are wonderful!!!
I am off to check out that cookbook next :-)

LOVE that Manos silk blend, grrlfriend! I just want to touch it!
And this wasn't a post? Riiiight. ;)

Love the book and we have 6 1-liter Sigg Bottles at our house - 2 for each of us and we love them! Besides being so ecologically friendly, the bottles keep water at just the right temp. I love the socks - I am going to get that pattern!

Thanks so much for sharing info on the book. Sounds exactly like what I've been searching for...I hopped right on over to Amazon.com and ordered it (along w/Knit 2 Together for $5.50)! BTW...it qualifies for free shipping! Can't wait til it arrives.

I used Manos Silk Blend in a scarf, it is soft and yummy.

I'm intrigued by the Sigg Bottle. Spent a lot of time on their website. I guess that means I should buy one.

Lovely Manos Silk Blend you have there. When did they release this yarn?
Posted by: Manise | February 28, 2008 at 06:54 AM
Oh, that Manos Silk Blend is YUMMY!

For someone who had nothing to post, you did a good job! I didn't know about the Manos silk. OTOH, thanks to you and Smith, we are on our second six pack of Devastator. It is WELL named. The condo kids have loved it also. Good stuff!

Hmm, when I say I've got nothing to post about, I've got NOTHING! Now, I don't know about your part of the world, but around here we figure at least another three weeks of winter. Some of our biggest blizzards in New England have happened in March! Just saying.

The Deavastator is awesome. We've been hooked on it ever since I saw it a few months ago - good stuff!

Lots of good information in an 'non-post':) I wish I could get some of that bock, but will have to settle for being able to fondle the new Manos at work... I was waiting for them to put their color talents to something softer. There's still time for that hat, you know... just sayin'

For not having anything to post about, you sure had plenty to post about! That Manos is totally gorgeous.

I got that cookbook around the holidays. I haven't had much chance to try it but I did love it's simplicity. I'm often put off by cook books because they make simple things so complex!

For not having anything to blog about, you sure put together a fine post!! Isn't that always the way?
Posted by: Vicki | February 28, 2008 at 08:38 AM
How can you say this doesn't count as a post? I am still diligently posting every day, and you're making me look bad.
You are very lucky that the technology has not advanced yet to the point where I can reach right through the monitor and grab that Manos.
Posted by: Lucia | February 28, 2008 at 08:58 AM
Mmmmm... that Manos looks delightful and yummy.

I have a very special relationship with my Sigg bottle, too. After years of people telling me to stop my badhabit of reusing plastic water bottles until they collapsed, I got a red Sigg with gold curlicues. It goes everywhere with me. What a great product. And that violet yarn? sigh.

I love posts like this - I learn so much! Nevermind the effect on my wallet.

When I grow up, I hope to be able to write a wonderful non-post as well as Margene.
Posted by: Sarah | February 28, 2008 at 09:30 AM
tee hee - it seems that you did quite well on the post (for having nothing to talk about - grin)
new cookbooks are wonderful - aren't they.
Posted by: Teyani | February 28, 2008 at 09:37 AM
Start the hat! That way, spring will come early for sure!

This is not a comment. I'll be interested to hear more about your Alice Waters experience. Love the woman and her philosophy, but I never got into her Chez Panisse recipes (of course I would eat them enthusiastically if I were to visit the restaurant).
Posted by: Nora | February 28, 2008 at 12:02 PM
Ooo, that Manos is gorgeous!
Posted by: Jennifer | February 28, 2008 at 01:20 PM
Manos silk! I have heard about it but not yet seen it. I can't wait to see what you make out of if and your opinion.
Posted by: Mia | February 28, 2008 at 01:22 PM
That reminds me... I want to get a metal water bottle (one with an opening big enough that I can wash the inside, though).
Posted by: Andrea (noricum) | February 28, 2008 at 02:27 PM
Love that Manos. YUM!
Posted by: kathleen | February 28, 2008 at 06:11 PM
That cookbook looks amazing! I am intrigued about the Sigg bottles, but aren't they hard to wash?
Posted by: molly! | February 28, 2008 at 06:41 PM
Hey, SIGG has insulated bottles too. I'm trying to get in the habit of carrying something to get coffee drinks in rather than the paper cup/plastic lid/now-madatory collar set up. I do OK when I'm starting with tea from home, except that my right-sized thermal cup isn't water-tight.
Knit the hat. Then it wil be new and waiting for you next fall.

Mmmmmmm. :)

I ordered Polygamy Porter for my son's birthday one year, along with a poster and t-shirt. We had great fun at your state's expense - sorry. He tells me the beer was good. The shipping cost as much as the beer!
Posted by: Sharon | February 28, 2008 at 11:28 PM
OMG that Manos is incredible. Reminds me of several hanks of Dyed-in-the-Wool silk-and-wool in my stash (now in to their second decade of aging). I am such a sucker for purple; it's killing me to resist. Stop me before I...
