Scoop - The Finishing Touches

Blueberryscooblocking Sunday, while pinning the body pieces of Scoop to the floor, I noticed a glaring error.  The back neck 'scoop' was as deep as the front neck 'scoop' and I knew that just couldn't be true.  Upon inspection of the written pattern, the error of my ways became clear...the extra two inches of the body length had not been added into my calculations before starting the neckline.  That meant the a reknit!  I had just given the sweater a good dunking, with agitation, in order to fuzz up the finish and help the yarn blossom to its maximum.  Would it be possible to pull back and reknit? Would the yarn be felted together?

Blueberryscoopyarnreadytofix After allowing it to dry thoroughly, I cut off the shoulders (much easier than trying to rip back) and raveled until just below the neckline.  The yarn was fluffy, slightly fulled, but not felted to itself....thank goddess!  However, I knew the problem would come in reknitting the area with yarn that hadn't been 'processed'  for maximum bloomability.  To that end, I wound off what remained of a ball onto my niddy noddy, tied the skein in several places, and proceeded to dunk it in a bath of hot water and soap. I stirred the waters wildly for a minute or two and checked the yarn.  It was perfect and looked very much like the finished fabric.

Backlooksfinewithnewyarn Monday evening I began reknitting, found the yarn worked well and left no line of demarcation.  What a relief! The neck was finished quickly, the sweater pieces sewn together and the front plackets begun.  The photo shoot should happen right on schedule...if I can find buttons! I forgot about buttons!

Enjoy your Thanksgiving!  I'll be back tomorrow if you want to stop by...it is NaKniSweBloPoMoFo, ya know!?

Wow! So glad the fix worked so well... dang. That is scary stuff.

Finding just the right buttons is my favorite part!
That sweater is wonderful. And I just can't help but enjoying imagining you "stirring the waters wildly" but it's probably just me!
:D
xoxox

What a frustrating mistake! But I've found that Peace Fleece is very forgiving when it comes to adding inches - remember my Every day Cardigan fix? Hannah's CPH is all done but I need buttons, too. We'll have to hit the fabric store in between pies this afternoon.

You saved the day! I am so impressed with your knitting prowess. Also, your perseverance - I would have instantly shoved the sweater pieces in a bag and relegated it to a 'hibernating' UFO. Good for you!

Yayhayhayhay! I've had my share of things with my NaKniSweMo sweater, another frogging last night of the neckline, but the end seems in sight. I hope I didn't just jinx myself. I can't wait to see "scoop."

Peace Fleece is wonderful stuff, no? I can't wait to see you in Scoop!

Have a great Thanksgiving!

Oh, you had me holding my breath! You did it! Huzzah!

(The fact that you also created the problem will be diplomatically forgotten. Forgetting will commence in 60 seconds. Tick, Tick, Tick.)

brilliant!

Ok, that acronym just makes me want to go "HoHoHoHoHo!" ;) I'm glad you were able to salvage Scoop!

That was a close call! Glad you were able to fix it.

Oh, I know you! You'll find JUST THE RIGHT buttons. I can't wait to see it -- in person!

I'm so proud of you for not panicking and quickly shoving the whole project in the bag of the yarn stash to hide for a few months.

Great fix! What an initially sick feeling that must have been.

Sorry you had to do all of that extra work. But I'm greatful for all of you who are participating in NoMoBloMeHo. I was worried the weekend would be slow in blogland. With no holiday plans and limited knitting, it was looking to be a scary weekend.

I'm with DebbieB on how I'd handle a crisis like that, but good job! I've got to get me some Peace Fleece!

Very ingenious to "treat" the yarn to make it blend in. And it looks great, too.

I'm doing a little "happy dance" on your behalf. Rock on, grrl!

Is it snowing in Ewetah?? I saw on the news last night that it might snow there. Hope you have a fabulous Thanksgiving!

WHEW! That must have been scary! Glad to hear it worked out.

Nice save.

Oh wow! I bet you uttered some choice words when you made that discovery! Good fix!

That should make "no one shows WIPs anymore Kim" satisfied! LOL. Thanks for sharing the perserverance and ingenuity aforethought of matching existing with new. You are ingenious!

Whew!!! So glad that worked out. I was nervous on the first part of the story.

Ooooo! An excellent save, and a great description of how you did it. Thanks for posting it.

Scoop! Already done! You know if you weren't a spinner and hadn't wet finished before the re-knit would have been much more trying. Process did you a big favor this time! (But maybe it owed you for the Shockwave socks)

I'm so impressed that you actually knit and finish sweaters.

Excellent save, grrl! Stopping by tomorrow will be one of the highlights of my day!

I cannot do anything involving an acronym. I live with a programmer. I am bound and determined to use WORDS. :-)

Also? I would never, ever type it correctly. Except for the MoFo part.

I can't wait to see your Scoop. The colour rocks.

you are a brave woman! Well done!

Great save Margene! Looking forward to the finished project!

Happy Turkey Day!

*Phew* That one had me on the edge of my seat. Very clever. And I LIKE the cutting idea. Hee hee!

What a relief! I am so glad all turned out well and am looking forward to the photo shoot.

I think I would have had heart failure. What a clever knitter you are!

Sheesh. I think I need to have a little lie down now. Happy button hunting.

Oh no! I am glad that it all worked out.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I'm amazed. Having never knit a sweater, what you describe just sounds incredibly frightening and challenging to me! Your finished results are gorgeous and can't WAIT to see it worn...
Happy T-day!
(((hugs)))

What a fix! I'm glad you were able to repair it. Especially it was good thinking to wash the yarn and full it slightly so that the yarn matched the already knitted fabric. Can't wait to see the finishing Scoop and PPS.

Very clever. I'll have to remember that fix. I'm sure I'll need it some day.

You're such a clever grrl!
