NaKniSweMo
This swatch is the first step of the journey, the first step for Scoop and NaKniSweMo. The yarn is Peace Fleece, in the yummy color Blueberry Borscht. While I've knit with PF before, I couldn't help but be a bit skeptical while knitting this swatch. The yarn was harsh, hard and the color seemed dull. After washing and blocking all worry disappeared as the swatch bloomed, softened and brightened. The resulting sweater will be warm and pretty. What you barely see in the photo are the subtle, tweedy, underlying colors of purple and blue/green. Right after work yesterday all other knitting was set aside and I cast on for Scoop. This is going to be a very quick sweater and I might just be wearing it by Thanksgiving!
The other projects have not, and will not, become UFOs. Here is an accounting so you can monitor the situation. The Kelly Cardigan may not grow much this month, but she will be finished before years end. She's too beautiful to leave for long, and just might be a nice Holiday sweater, as she's so rich in color. The Shockwave Socks aren't much farther along than yesterday's photo shows...they will grow...I'm using self-discipline, teaching by example, (ha!). As predicted, the Portrait Scarf grows so, so slowly...little progress can be seen. I love her truly, so she will get daily attention (if possible) and her day in the sun will come. (note to self: There's a lot of pink in that photo!)
That's about it from here. I'm looking forward to the extra knitting days we'll have during the long Thanksgiving weekend. (Yes, I realize it's still three weeks away.) That extra time will help me to reach the goal of having almost everything off the needles by the end of the year....that's 60 days away. However, in a moment of delusion, I may have cast on for something else.

Moment of delusion! you are too funny. What ever it is it has peaked my interest!

I love working with Peace Fleece. I was hoping Hannah would choose it for the CPH but she doesn't like anything tweed-y. Sigh.

Hmmmm, that mystery project that you've just cast on, could they be EZ's mitered mittens? Pretty!
Posted by: Kirsten | November 02, 2007 at 05:08 AM
Mittens! What a luscious colour combo.

Oooh, I am thinking of making my NaKniSweMo in Peace Fleece as well. It is actually an experiment of sorts, to figure out the EZ sweater with the set in sleeves knitted in the round. I figure with a nice hefty yarn like PF I'll get to those set in sleeves faster.
Love the mittens. :)

Aaah, yes, I can spot a mitered mitten a mile away.
Posted by: susan | November 02, 2007 at 06:20 AM
Gorgeous swatch! Mmmmmmm.
Is that the Malabrigo? I know for sure it's the EZ mitten. :)

Delusional women are my favorite. Right up there with the witches. I hoped to finish St. Brigid by year's end and promptly cast on for two afghans. I might be a bit closer to self-defeatist though, huh?

Oh my goodness, is that a Mitered Mitten? Squeeeee. I gave mine a soak the other day and laid them flat to dry -- much improved already and they aren't even dry! It looks like I may have reason to wear them next week!
Have a GREAT weekend, Margene.

Isn't Peace Fleece a shocker, really? I decided finally to wash my skeins ahead of time. The difference after washing is phenomenal, and of course, makes it much less harsh on the hands. I might even knit this weekend. Really! I can feel it coming on! :)

I considered casting on for mitts for me last night, thinking that I could pretend they were already on the needles before I began my UFO clean up...instead I worked on my Dulaan hat, and I should have it finished this afternoon! One down!

everything off the needles by the end of which year? i love the something else!

I loooove Peace Fleece. It's a newfound obsession, but only after wearing it post-wash. I can't wait to see your sweater work up.

I loves me some good Peace Fleece, and that colorway is gorgeous...
hmm.
So's the "something else" you "may" have cast on for...
lolol
Happy Weekend!
(((hugs)))

Where is the zen again?
;-)

But those colors! Sometimes that is exactly why I end up casting on 'a little something extra'. You have a good array of projects going to get you through all levels of mood and energy. Happy knitting this weekend!

Dontcha just hate it when things jump onto your needles when you aren't looking? Love the yarn you're using for the mittens.

Oh, whatever that is at the end is very lovely!

delusional moments are such fun, aren't they!
looks like a mitt (?)
I'm going to have to try some of that Peace Fleece - everyone just raves about it. Scoop is going to be gorgeous.

I almost favorited your mittens over on Ravelry, the yarn is so pretty. I never found that pattern appealing before but I think your mittens will teach me otherwise.

Even with a moment of delusion, your discipline is a good example. Now, all I need to do is to try and follow it. Have a great weekend.

I look forward to seeing your Scoop -- is the PF stiff at that gauge? And I'm sure you'll meet your knitterly goals!

Delusion, indeed! I spotted that little beauty on Ravelry yesterday. Sneaky woman.

The mittens look great. I love that pattern and have been considering them for a while. They should be a fast and fun, quick knit.

Just destashed a bunch of Peace Fleece - loved the colors but it didn't love my hands. I'll have to give it another try sometime, washing it first! Scoop looks like it will be fun and versatile in that color!

Peace Fleece is the best. It would be my desert island yarn except that desert islands are usually too warm for rustic wool tweed... ;-)
Posted by: Beth S. | November 02, 2007 at 10:21 AM
That Peace Fleece is really pretty. I petted some not long ago but passed it by due to the feel. Maybe i should give it a second look.
I love the little surprise you cast on for.

There IS a lot of pink in that photo! But that's okay, pink is pretty!

Knitting a sweater in one month? You go grrl!
Posted by: Kara | November 02, 2007 at 11:00 AM
Interesting to hear how Peace Fleece changes so dramatically when it's washed. I'll be sure to keep that in mind, if I ever decide to knit something with it.

When I first saw that last photo my thought was 'My that Peace Fleece has really long color repeats - totally different on different sweater pieces.'
I contemplated the NaKnitSweMo KAL, but only for a moment. I have two cardigan WIPs at the moment; one within a week or two of completion and one for a class so not abandonable. I expect to finish both this month, but started them earlier. I do have my next sweater planned, though.

The Kelly Cardigan IS too pretty to put off for too long, I love her!
Is that new project going to be mittens?
Posted by: Kim | November 02, 2007 at 07:39 PM
Thanksgiving three weeks away! I'm going into shock because that's the weekend we cut our Christmas tree. Where did this year go, for crying out loud.
Posted by: Sharon | November 02, 2007 at 08:01 PM
The swatch looks great. Love the yarn and color.
So share what the new project you just casted on is. ;)

Once I set up my goals for October, what did I do? Cast on for a new sweater! Craziness. I almost signed up for NaKniSweMo, but with two sweaters in various stages of completion, I figured I should get those done first before dedicating myself to a whole new sweater for this month.
Posted by: Wanda | November 02, 2007 at 11:48 PM
Delusion, eh? Pretty, but it does confound the goals.
Posted by: Laurie | November 03, 2007 at 04:55 AM
Oh, ho! Do I see an EZ mitten in handspun? Yum.
My November sweater is also a Peace Fleece sweater. I'm getting 3.5 on 9's -- how about you?

i have been trying to rotate through 3 different projects that are currently on my needles, as they have deadlines (charity squares that have to be mailed by dec 1, a headband i'm designing by nov 30, and a lacey afghan for my mother for christmas), but i just took on another one, lol. i had bought yarn to make my son a hat in his school colors (bright purple and white). he knew what pattern he wanted (the rasta hat from men who knit and the dogs that love them). well, he's in pep band, and his school made the state football finals. he asked me if i could finish the hat in time for the game friday. so away go the needles!
