Preview of Coming Attractions
By now you may have heard we had a bit of winter weather on Saturday. It rained most of the day and by afternoon the mountains were covered with a dusting of white. It was very, very cold and wintry...a preview, by mother nature, of what's to come.

Sunday the sky was as blue as blue can be and we knew the canyon would be a winter wonderland...a short lived wonderland. With that in mind we headed up to our favorite spot for breakfast. As we drove through the forest, iced with a dusting of powdered sugar like snow, we knew it was a very special moment in time. The snow is ethereal, a scene that is gone in a blink of an eye. Indeed, on our return down the canyon, two hours later hardly a drop of snow remained. The colors of fall had come out anew as if to say they were still in charge of the season...at least for now.
While eating breakfast we sat by the fire, the first fire this fall, and looked out at the snow covered deck and the spot where we had dined only a couple of weeks ago. It's doubtful we'll sit there again until spring returns. Unexpectedly, Silver Fork was packed, but we should have known the usual Sunday suspects would be in the canyon on such a glorious day. The sun warmed the mountain air quickly and we decided to take a walk around Silver Lake for our usual Sunday constitution.
The sound of snow crunching beneath our feet, as we walked the boardwalk, was like hearing the voice of an old friend. I was very happy to have a new pair of fleece lined clogs, the perfect companion for my hand knit socks. The walk was a perfect way to break them in and I know my feet will be happy and warm this winter. It was so nice to have Forest Canopy's warm touch on my shoulders. She hadn't been shown in action so we stopped for a quick photo shoot. It was a perfect day for hand knits, a perfect day altogether. There were few other people on the walkway and it was so nice to have the quiet and the scent of the forest to ourselves.
There was a flurry of finishing this weekend and much new knitting begun. If you'll come back tomorrow I'll share some exciting news and a preview of things come.

My absolute favorite time of year. Hands down.
Beautiful shawl, by the way.

Oh, I am SO not ready for snow! I'm still picking tomatoes! And we have no furnace yet. I might have to get me some clogs, though...very cool!

Spill with the clog source, grrl! And the sky on Sunday, whoowee. That's why I live here. Blue skies!

You look like winter while the lake and woods behind you still look like fall:) I love your Forest Canopy and you may end up wearing it more than many of your other hand-knits... love the clogs too! My weekend was full of mixed weather and projects as well.

Wow, look at you all bundled up! Send a little down this way, please. I'd at least like to be able to wear my socks.

Great photos, as always. I don't want to rush into winter quite yet! These things must be done deeeeeee-licately.

That's the way I like snow, enough to make you feel nostalgia and reminiscent and then goes away and leaves you longing for just another taste. Beautiful photos, love the shawl!

Wow. It's coming, I guess. We usually get some sort of weird Nor'Easter in October -- sometimes as early as the 6th. I'd better brace myself!

It was such a beautiful weekend, even WITH the snow. (Or maybe because of the snow - hard to say.) :)

All the leaves blew off my favorite ash tree over the weekend -- I hardly had time to appreciate them, it happened so fast!
Snow! I'm not ready for it yet! I could not bear winter without it, though.

Winter is on her way here too. Yesterday the high was around 50, but the wind has returned for the winter. I'm not sure I'm ready. Ugh. Your handknits look great!

Where did you get the clogs? I want some. The socks are great and the shawl is simply gorgeous! What a great weekly tradition. I love Silver Fork Lodge and Silver Lake. Thanks for sharing.

I covet those clogs! They're fabulous. And your Jaywalkers are so cute poking out of them. :-)
And Forest Canopy looks great over your jacket. As I knew it would, ahem! ;-)

Holy buckets! It's in the 90s here today. I'm wearing shorts. The thought of fleece clogs - nope, sorry, can't think of fleece clogs without sweating.
Send me some cold, please!

La, la, la, I can't hear you. I don't want to think about snow yet. Too early!

I so love your favorite walkway.........it was one of the highlights of my trip.....so beautiful!!
Can you believe it is going to be in the upper 80's here again this weekend. I am not sure Autumn is ever going to come to these mountains!
Posted by: Kim | October 01, 2007 at 09:58 PM
The shawl is fabulous, but oh my goodness - cold weather!! It's still almost 90 here. That is so not fair.
Posted by: Jane | October 01, 2007 at 10:04 PM
Wow look at the beautiful view with the snow covered mountains. We can't even get spring here. It is supposed to be in the high 80's all week into the weekend. I don't know if we will ever have cooler weather.
Sounds like a wonderful time.
