More Random (Fiber) Bits
Last week I was very fortunate to be on the computer when Adrian announced a shop update and even more fortunate to be able to latch onto a (as in one) skein of her yarn. The last several updates I have been unable to grab anything...you must be quick on the draw. The shop empties in the blink of an eye, it really is remarkable to watch as yarn and roving slip right through your fingers! I was able to nab one, out of two, 'must have' items and ended up with this gorgeous colorway, Treasure. I wanted it badly enough to elbow my virtual way to a skein. I really love this skein. BTW, have you seen Adrian's unbelievably beautiful Bohus sweater. It's all handspun!
The only other time I've been able get anything from Adrian's shop was last spring and I bought this out of the world colorway, Cosmos Merino roving. One of the groups I belong to on Ravelry is Spinner Central and each month they offer a SAL. September's theme is merino in an autumnal colorway (color of your choice) and Cosmos seems to be the right fit. The goal will be a 3-ply DK weight (no project in mind, but I'm open to suggestions). The process of spinning this beautiful, lusciously soft merino should be very enjoyable and I hope to learn more about spinning different fibers as the SAL progresses through the next few months.
The Spunky Club fiber for July (Celebration) was finished up last week and I hope for a little plying this weekend. I did a test skein to see how it would look in chained singles and I love it! I also think progress has been made in learning this technique, but there is along way to go before I can knit this up into mitts as intended. There is still a big bump of brown to spin for the main color, so hope to do a bit of spinning time this weekend.
Oops, now that I think about it I have only this weekend to get ready for Kim, Carole, TeresaC, Judyakathegoddess and KimG! Oh my, oh my, there is so much to be done.
See you next week and enjoy your weekend!!

Adrian's yarn and roving is wonderful. She custom dyed some fat sock for me for two BSJs. I love the color of that roving you bought!

You lucky girl. Not only an Adrian score, but you also get to hang out with the grrrlz. Give 'em hugs for me.

Your 'Celebration' looks so soft! And your roving choice is perfect for the SAL. I haven't quite found a roving color (in my stash) to settle on for 'end of summer' - since summer is nowhere near over here, I'm thinking of perhaps a deep green, which I have in a Franquemont Fibers batt...

Oh, that is really pretty - you are dedicated and lucky to have scored some! Have a great weekend.

Have a great time. Lovely yarn. ::mutter:: should have come to France. ;)

I love the turquoise colorway! You have sent me two pieces of inspiration... I should fondle my Bohus kit yarns and ponder starting and I will also have to look up the details of Spinner Central (which I think I joined but didn't do anything about) and dream autumn spinning dreams. Have a happy weekend.

Lovely yarn and roving. Thanks for the link to the Bohus. I'd not seen hers before and it's really not to be missed.

I scored 2 of those skeins- pure luck and patience. Someone off loaded 2 skeins one at a time and I plucked each one in a blink of an eye. Also got some roving.......Have a great weekend! And thanks for the heads up on Spin Central on Ravelry.

Ohhhh, that skein up top is beautibar! (yes, I made up that word. You wanna fight about it?)

Treasure is lovely! It's a good thing it's a virtual shop - otherwise all of that lovely yarn would probably be torn to bits by wild women snatching it out of each other's hands.

I never manage to get to Adrian's and Sundara's webpages in time before they are sold out. Both woman have their next updates on the same day....my birthday....let's see if I can get some this time...haha!

That is one beautiful skein of yarn! As for next weekend, I knew there was a reason I just couldn't bring myself to book a plane ticket, and I really struggled with it. As it turns out, the Utah family is all coming HERE on a surprise visit for the weekend (Tom snagged two "Rush" tickets at Madison Square Garden) and I get to have the granddaughter to myself for one whole day! The other day Carina gets to meet her Connecticut cousins for only the second time! But, I'll be with all you guys in spirit, you know that.

Your Cosmos roving is absolutely gorgeous! I'm surprised you were able to resist it for so long. ;-)

Thanks so much, Margene! I'm very glad you like what you snagged. I can't wait to see your Cosmos yarn.
Thank you also for the lovely Bohus sweater compliments.

I never, ever manage to be in the loop for any of those updates. So, none of those yarns come my way, sniff. Somehow, I still manage to find plenty to knit....
One Week!

Treasure is very aptly named. I have now updated my calendar to check for a Hello Yarn shop update thanks to you :)
I hope you have a fun weekend meeting fellow fiber lovers.

Yes, you have to be quick to get yarn and fiber from Adrian. No fooling around. Treasure is loverly.
Posted by: nova | September 07, 2007 at 05:56 PM
Dang, you certainly beat me to that Treasure. I was trying to get it, but thankfully other things kept me occupied. Once I remembered to get over there, the color was gone. Guess I wasn't meant to have it. Not that I need it anyway! ;-) Have a great weekend!
