September - Nine of a Dozen
If you look closely you can see that color is starting to patchwork its way across the face of the mountains. The gambol oak turns shades of orange and the aspens are touched with gold. Color hasn't started to invade the valley as yet.
The tomatoes hold on through the chilly nights. The corn stocks, long spent, are still guarded by scarecrows, and pumpkins, nestle between the vines, await harvest.
Fall came in on a bluster wind and ushered in a bit of sky drama. Rain, a wuthering wind and blustery gusts, foretold of what's to come. For now, the chill can easily be warded off with a hand knit or two. While nature prepares for a long winter nap, the hand knits come out of hibernation and into the spot light. Socks that were tucked into a drawer during the heat of summer can now be adorned to warm the toes, sweaters come out of storage cupboards and warm shawls wrap around a body to keep the chill at bay.
While the storm brewed overhead, we took a walk through the park. It was a beautiful way to usher in the fall weather. Winter is coming up the driveway and it is still far from knocking at
the door. It is time to revel in the beauty of the fall days ahead and enjoy the process of the earth shedding her foliage as she readies to sleep...for as she sleeps, so shall she wake.

It feels very far here - it was mid-80s yesterday! :)

This is like a poem -- Ode to Fall. I noticed when landing in the plane yesterday that we are getting a bit of color, too. It's muted this year, and many of the leaves are simply falling off the trees because it's been so dry.

Your beautiful post today makes me want to warm a cup of cider! The chill was here on the morning and the fog rising off the Ohio River! Your schnauzer looks happy to enjoy the walk as well. T

We are supposed to hit near-record highs here mid-week, but in spite of that there are touches of red and gold in the maples already. I need to knit me a shawl!

You look very nice in that lovely shawl. I pulled out some hand knits yesterday too. Yea! It's nice to see someone wearing a shawl out. I love knitting shawls, but rarely see anyone wearing them. Wonderful pictures as always. Glad you enjoyed the cool and the rain yesterday too!

Our leaves are just beginning to turn, just a bit at the tops. I love this time of year.

The change from summer to fall is not that noticeable here. Still keeping a watch on the gulf for hurricanes. Hoping to make it through this year without a major storm.

The mountains are getting so pretty now! I do love fall, even though I hate the thought of winter approaching!

What is it about the fall change that brings out the poetry in our souls?

Thank you for bringing fall to me today, especially with my weather refusing to acknowledge the changing of the seasons.

You look nice and comfy in that shawl! Give that little cutie a big hug from me! I just love that little dog!

Ah.... a crisp fall morning. Just like I like it! I actually sat underneath the Birdsfoot Stole I'm working on last night and it felt GOOD.

Hi Moxie! Hi Margene! Hi mountains!

It helps to think of fall as a nice, long, leisurely stroll towards winter, though the weekend weather here seemed more like a plunge right in. Love the photos... I could wear those colors:)

Aw, I like the photo of your doggie. You look so very fallish.

Sigh. Our mountains are brushed with snow this morning, and I wanted socks for the first time in months. Lovely post. Blue skies!

Beautiful post! That wheel keeps on a-turning, doesn't it? I admit to not much caring for the dark half of the year, but thoughts of the chill ahead do inspire lots of knitting ideas.

Very nice photos. It is still in the 90s here. I am not wearing the wool stuff I am knitting. :)

Yeah! I am so ready for fall! We had sleet this morning.

Damn, this makes me miss you way too much. And what's Moxie so intent on in the bushes?

What a lovely way to welcome the fall! We went apple and pumpkin picking yesterday, and though it was in the mid-80s, it somehow felt like we, too were saying hello to the season.
