Lotsa Socks

Jane had a Show Your Socks Contest last year, and this year, she's reprising it with a twist.  It's very easy…just show the first sock and the last (latest) sock you've knit.  If you've just knit your first pair of socks they could be the same pair, right!?  If you don't have the first pair (my first pair was 1993-4), don't worry. Jane is being very generous with her interpretations of "first and last" and she's very generous with her prizes, too!  Did you know she's knit 93 pair, so far?!  I'm not sure how many socks I've knit in the past 13-14 years, but I don't think it totals that many.

Since the first pair I knit is no longer in existence, I've gone with the two oldest pair in my sock drawer.  Both pair were knit before I knew much about knitting socks in general and let's just say much has been learned since that time. The blue sock is from a mystery cotton denim yarn in a mystery pattern. The socks are hell to wear; hard, uncomfortable, stiff and almost painful on the feet.  The other sock is one I tackled before I knew much about two color knitting, but I did an OK job of it. It's the Finnish Sock from Folk Socks.  I have no idea what the yarn was, but it wasn't a good fit for the socks and I don't wear them much...thus they still exhist. It's a cotton/wool blend if memory serves.

My newest (latest) pair is another pair of Monkey's (my third), in STR Mist, started while visiting with good pals, as an easy, peasy project.

Socks have not been my number one choice of projects lately...I'm feeling a little socked out, but there will always be a pair on the needles even if they don't get much attention.  However, I did knit several pair in the last few months and will enjoy wearing them now that the weather is cooling down.

From the top clockwise:  Monkey the First, Monkey the Second, Loksins!, Thelonious, Jaywalkers, and a simple Picot Sock.

Now it's your turn to show Jane your socks...go for it!

Nice, eclectic assortment. Are you stalled? Not Joho..not socks...resisting other lace...

That's a fun contest. My first pair of socks was a pair for Dale for reenacting. I knit them out of Lopi Lite and of course he never wore them because they were too scratchy!

You're certainly not in a color rut!

i tend to give most of my socks away! ack!

I'm still lovin' those STR Monkeys!

I need more rocks! (Although not to show off my socks...not a single pair all summer!)

Oh! Show us your SOCKS.
I really shouldn't read before the first cup of coffee...

Great socks! I'm still in knitting socks mode but I'm sure once the weather cools off I'll be back knitting some sweaters.

Better get ready to put another pair back on after today, eh? 80 today and valley snow tomorrow?? Typical fall in Utah, I suppose....

Monkeys the Third are really lovely! Hee hee - I think my story of the first few pairs is probably similar. I used some interesting yarns...

I started thinking and realized that about half of the socks I've knit have been made for someone else!

Nice arrangement of socks! I will have to set up a 'photo shoot' this weekend:) I haven't given socks much attention this summer, but am taking heed of Anne's warning about fall and thinking about that languishing pair a bit more lovingly.

Nice socks. Looking at the array you set out reminds me of all the stalled socks I have around the house. Ugh!

They all look great. I only have 2 pair of socks. 1 that are finished and 1 on the needles. All the other pairs that I have knit have been given away.

I think I will always have a pair of socks on the needles. Socks are the must practical handknit for our climate. They get worn more than any sweater, scarf or hat ever could.

Most excellent! I wonder if I can find the first pair I made Miss B. They were cotton/acrylic, and had all of the faults of your blue denim ones, plus they stretched out of shape after she wore them twice.

How many pairs of socks did I say you would knit this year? 24? You'd better get busy.

I find socks to be comfort knitting. Usually no stress and give you a good feeling of accomplishment.
Great idea, I shall have to dig out some myself!

I feel a little socked out right now too, interestingly, though I am still eyeing all the new STR colors covetously. ;-)

I don't remember those Finnish Socks! But they're very pretty. :-)

Pretty pretty socks in pretty pretty colors! They all look beautiful. They make me want to go cast on a pair:)

are you up for another Socktoberfest? right around the corner :)

Those are gorgeous!

Stitch after stitch, sock after sock, and step after step makes quite a journey.

Beautiful socks! The vast majority of the socks I have knit have gone to other people. Hopefully, by the end of the year, I won't really be able to say that any more!

I think Gracie lost the first ones I knit. And Cam put his heel through the second. Third was stolen...sigh. And I have lost my latest. Not a very good track record!

Fabulous socks! Thanks for sharing - and for the linkage. I'm hoping lots more socks show up for my contest.

Wow. That's a lot of socks. I could definitely still dig out my first pair of socks, since I haven't knit many pairs. I rarely wear them because I don't want them to wear out. lol

great socks.
hmmm.... I don't know if my first pair still exists either. I gave them to my very understanding, accepting daughter. (grin) As I recall they were about 4 sizes too big!

I don't even have my first pair of socks anymore. My mom took them from me. Hmm, I'll have to go dig around and see what I can find. I just cast off a pair of socks yesterday, so that would definitely be up for the last pair. Thanks for letting us know about the contest.
