Drawing a Blank, Randomly

As I sat to compose a post I found it hard to get my thoughts together.  Not much progress has been made on either pair of socks since yesterdays post, spinning is coming along but pictures of the bobbins are rather boring, and Flotsam Jetsam and I are in a constant struggle for progress (grrl, I just HATE that pattern). So, I'm just going to further bore you some random thoughts, and hey, it's Wednesday anyway.  Here is a picture of 'my mountain' to distract you from lack of knitting content.

Graydayonmymountain_2

It has been very warm here with temps hovering around 20 degrees above normal.  Today's high, which will happen during the night is predicted to be around 60 (below normal) and the daytime high could be in the 40s.  What a difference a day makes, as the night before I couldn't sleep because it was too warm.  I'll let you know if it snows in the mountains as also predicted.

Several of us Ewe-tah Grrls will be leaving for Estes Park Wool Market in just over a week and I'm rather excited about it. Laura and Chris will be staying with us this year and it will be fun to reconnect with former Ewe-tah Grrls,  Michaele (we miss you!) and Erin (it’s hard to believe you’re gone!). Erin just moved to CO for her dream job, lucky grrl!

If you'll be there plan for the blogger/knitter meet up on the East side of the Vendor building (I think it’s the East side), between the goat/bunny barn and the Vendor building, in any case. 11:00 am Saturday morning.  Who'll be there!?

At SnB last night we had a party for Miriam and Laurie, as both are birthday grrls this week.  Anne was able to drop in despite her very busy schedule, and she  brought her hand carders for me to try while she's away at the Big Sky Fiber FestivalMarcia also stopped by and she'll be meeting up with Anne at the festival, too.  Isn't this all exciting news?

Gokyarnisnotasniceasitilooks Beth  asked for more details on my Georgia O'Keeffe skein (post below). It ended up a bout a 2 ply-DK weight and it is very squooshy to the touch.  It would knit up nicely into a scarf, but I'm not sure I can see it as anything else.  My thought was to give it as a gift, but truth be told...it isn't good enough for that, as my quality wasn't what it should have been. It does LOOK good, however I don't think knitting it would be so great. It may be (another) pet skein. (A skein that is just for touching and enjoying as is). Yesterday someone found my blog by Googling *insight on Georgia O'keeffe "The Poppy"*...too funny.

World Market  is opening, in a couple of days, just a few blocks from my home. I've heard, through the grapevine, that they are wonderful and that the may also be bad for my budget.

Just so you, my dear friends, will have a second picture to view…here are (a few of) my readers as requested by Leah…they’re much stronger than yours are, Leah. They reside in every room of the house, every knitting bag and even more are in my purse.  See what all you youngsters have to look forward to?

Thanks for the warning. When I was in my early 20's, nobody ever told me that things would start to crack and pop and slowly break down. So far my eye sight has remained for the close up work. But things are getting blurry far away. I'd have to get some glasses to see that beautiful mountain of yours.

I also have succombed to the need for reading glasses and have 2 pairs. One always resides in my knitting bag and they seem to be getting a lot of use lately. Trying to capture a dropped stitch on size 1 DPN's just doesn't work very well without them.

WOW!! First the mountain is as beautiful as ever!
Those glasses! Do you really wear all of them!
WOWZAAAA!
I have the past couple of scripts and thats it! I've had glasses, contacts, more glasses... I end up ordering a new pair approx. every couple years... I have to get the anti-glare (night blindness)and I like the transitions for daytime driving

It is better to see better while knitting!! ;o))
I can be blind as a bat sometimes myself....
hmm old?? NOPE! 29 again this year! I seem to be stuck and don't get any older! lol

BYW-- your Skein looks WONDERFUL and GIFTABLE!! You did a GREAT job!

But no - I adore your bobbin pics! Bring 'em on!!

I totally know what you mean about pet skeins. :-)

I have a few pet skeins myself. Estes sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun. Beautiful mountain shot!

We had more snow on our mountains, but I think its all gone now, as at last it is heating up. Your glasses are great, I am short-sighted and only really wear my glasses to drive and watch television but I can never find a pair and I have a few! Your pet skein is gorgeous colours.

Your mountain is just gorgeous! I think the best part of blog statistics is seeing how folks surfed in and the searches can be really amusing.I know those reading glasses are coming my way soon as I have to hold the book farther and farther away from my face when I read at night. Phooey.

I adore your glasses, and got to see some of them firsthand when you were here. I was coveting them and saying, "Why aren't there any cool ones like Margene's around here?!" and then the other day I saw that a local store got a shipment in. I almost bought some "just because," but with my new contacts, I really don't need them.

That photo of the mountain is one of the best you've ever posted....XO

I buy them by the 3 pack - 2 or 3 packs at a time! (and still can never find a pair when I need them)

Sigh...World Market really IS wonderful. We don't have it in Boston, but I go there every chance I get when I am home in California.

Really, it's just...wonderful.

I've got one pair of glasses and they're NEVER off my face. In fact, a lot of the time I fall asleep with them on.

Still love the yarn best of all!

Jane of Quiddity (Georgia) will be at Estes, too! Thanks for organizing this.

Having reached the mature age that I have..requiring the 'cheaters'..I too have many pair..amazing after a certain age ..your arm length shrinks and you just can't get it out there far enough to really see it..lol

i just realized what it is about that mountain view. it always looks like a bit of new fabric.
for more than a year i've wanted to ditch my trifocals and go back to the readers.

I can soooooooo relate to the glasses, but since mine stay on my face 24/7 - okay except for sleeping - I don't tend to loose them. In spite of the huge (2.5x) bifocal section in my regular frames, I am now finding it easier to pull OFF the glasses to clip threads and read charts!
Oh heavens...how much stronger can you get?
lol
(((hugs)))

Damn whippersnappers. :) I've just started to hit the point where it's easier to see the needlepoint and charts without my glasses. When I start holding things out in front of myself and determining how far away is "just right" to read, I'll write and find out where you get all of the stylish ones.

I'm curious to see how GOK knits up.

The handspun is gorgeous. So there. I think your glasses are cute and fun.

I've worn glasses since I was 18 months old, so I'll be destined for an even stronger set of glasses permanently ensconced on my face. Maybe by then I'll have trifocals too, and not just the bifocals I've got to wear now. :-)

I have such great memories of Estes last year! Try and have fun without me, if you possibly can. ;-)

I might be at Estes Park. We have hotel reservations, but not plane tickets yet. Having to wait to see if everything fits in with John's work schedule.

I need to run out and pick up a few more pairs of reaaders. They disappear - probably off nesting with the mis-matched socks. I always carry an emergency back-up pair in my purse that don't fit well. They're just for emergencies. Dh made me put a pair in his glove box. they are HIS pair and if I use them, I have eto put them back. That way, I can see to read when we are out and about.

Love the GOK yarn. Really!! If you don't like it, I'll take it off your hands.

Beautiful mountain, really beautiful yarn and World Market. It's only the best place on earth. We don't have one here but extended family all live close to one. I don't really go to see them, I go to shop at World Market. Seriously.

I will be at the EPWM meet up. I'm getting seriously excited for the market this year and am feverishly planning my fiber purchases over and over and over again, LOL!

As a contact lens wearer, I am SO GLAD I now have monovision lenses. The reading glasses I bought now sit dusty and unused. Poor things.

Looks alot like the reading glasses collection spread throughout the house for both of my folks and they can never find a pair!

That yarn is just gorgeous!

i've worn glasses since i was 7, so eyewear is nothing new for me. what is new (at 41) is that it's getting harder to read my computer monitor! they adjusted my contacts last time around because i was to the point that i couldn't read street signs (the big ones they put on the stop light bars) until i was almost on top of them. that is better, but the computer? meh.

i think georgia is just gorgeous! as far as i'm concerned , if it's handspun, it's knittable, lol.

LOVE World Market. I think my favorite parts are the candies from around the world (Haribo Bears!) and that they collect all sorts of geographically local beers- ones different than you'd get at the supermarket... between the wine and the beer, I feel like it's a candy store for adults!

I still love that poppy yarn - I think if you used it in a lace leaf pattern it would break up any potential stripes and hide any imperfections that you might think there are :-)
By the way Google reader is pretty good at picking up posts before bloglines (I switched about two weeks ago)Umm I don't know if there is a problem with your last/next post but it is showing up on google but you can't connect to it.

Looks like we have started something the cheaters. I love yours and thanks for sharing! I am going to search for some good places to find CUTE ones online and will share when I find them.

I wrote about "the little things" today and having more confidence in yourself. I think you need to read that, but know you are very talented and there is a possiblity that your standards are much higher than many of us. I would be proud to knit with that GOK yarn. You are amazing.

That reminds me, I need to get new glasses. I lost my glasses while canoeing - doh! Time for a new prescription anyway!

And World Market? If you're worried about your budget - STAY AWAY FROM THE WINE SELECTION!!! Seriously good bargains.

I most certainly will be there and can't wait!! I'll be packing my reading glasses, as well. We have World Market here, and I agree, it's a great place.

Gee that mountain is a pretty good diversion as things go....! When I draw a blank it really is a blank. Have fun at the Wool Market, the World Market makes me envious. The O'Keefe yarn is simply stunning.

Can't wait to see what tempts you at Estes.

I'm jealous. Where you have your very own mountain to take pictures of, I have the flatlands of Indiana. Perhaps I could take pictures of the cornfields?

Blessings!

Reading glasses - more like "everything" glasses by now. I have a pair in every room. And nearly ready for bifocals. Let's not forget the hearing aids, too. I prefer to think of all these as "Boomer Fashion Accessories". Thank goodness our generation has largely avoided the need for dentures.

Ha! I can't see worth a damn anyway, so it won't be anything new to me. ;-)

I'm surprised to hear you say that you didn't think the Poppy yarn was up to par. It looks magnificent in the skein! And I think of you as a very consistent spinner. Ah well, I guess we all have our off days.

We can think of it as a new accessory to procure in large quantities!

Your Georgia O'Keefe yarn is stunning whether it ever gets knit up or not.

I'll be as Estes, of course...I can't wait to see you all again!

When I'm knitting or reading and then look up at the clock on the VCR, I can now watch as my eyes adjust their focus. It takes a second or two.

I've always worn glasses, so not something to look forward to, just a part of my life already. I'm so sad that I will miss seeing you at Estes. Have fun and buy lots of yarn. I'll definitely be seeing you next year. *sigh*

The mountains are beautiful. Sounds like a great time this weekend. Wish I could be there.

I don't know, that Goergia O'keefe skein looks pretty good . . . try a little swatch before you write it off. Not that there's anything wrong with pet skeins, I have plenty of them myself!

Your comment about the reading glasses cracks me up. Growing older may be no fun, but at least you can be fashionable in those glasses! I love all of the colors.

One of the advantages of wearing regular glasses for distance and needing new prescriptions every couple of years is an easy transition to bifocals. Still, I own more glasses than that. And I'm behind on getting my eyes checked.

Cost Plus is still around with a new name? I'll have to see if they still have stores here. The big danger I need to avoid is buying stuff just because it seems like a good deal.

Reading glasses?! I have one pair for inside and a pair of sunglasses and I only need them to see. :p

Sometimes making the yarn is the end of the journey, isn't it?

Those glasses don't scare me! I've been wearing specs since I was 7.

I love your Georgia O'Keefe skein. The reason I keep coming back here is to see what you've been spinning. You always spin up such lovely yarn.

As a regular four eyes, I sympathize with the hoard of reading glasses.

This is a very personalized post, really... your mountain, your glasses, plans with friends. Some days that really IS what it's all about!
