Back at the Lake
Memorial weekend is generally the peak weekend for mountain run off. This year the peak was a month ago. There is little to no snow left in the higher elevations and the aspen forest now has a new tinge of green. The mountains were especially beautiful and we were able to walk around Silver Lake for the first time this weekend. She is still breathtaking.
After we walked around the lake we headed to our favorite spot...
Marcia and 'Himself' were in town and we were able to entice them over the back of the mountain from Park City. It was so nice to sit and chat on the deck of the Silver Fork while violet-green swallows and hummers buzzing over head. Marcia admired all my recently spun yarns (yes, I drug several skeins up for viewing) and pronounced them 'lovely'. What was loveliest of all was our visit and the beautiful day.
Knitting and spinning occurred over the weekend. The weather has warmed up a bit so Emmylou has been moved to the living room as it is much cooler than my south facing 'fiber studio' aka junque room. Emmylou and I have enjoyed the view from the big picture window as a flower box full of big yellow flowers and colorful snapdragons is just across the road.
Did you see Norma's beautiful poppy? Well, it is the 'real life' version of the poppy that Georgia O'Keeffe painted and I used for inspiration for a dye job I dyed awhile back. This weekend I finished spinning up about half the roving so Emmylou and I could ply together. It was so much fun to watch the colors blend and pop.
Marcia is the person who pushed me into buying a wheel (and gave me a very good reason to). She has been a grand mentor, and abater. I'm so happy with this new hobby! Thank you, Marcia. I couldn't have done it without you.

It looks like Teyani's Socck Hop yarn! Nice job! Sounds like you all had a great visit.

That yarn is just fantastic! You have been making some beautiful yarns lately, but I think this is my favorite. Do you have plans for it?

I'm so glad you and Marcia got together. It looks like a breathtaking spot. I just saw the pictures on her blog and commented that I would take her up on her Go Visit Utah tourism campaign, but I was wondering if "Margene would meet me at Silver Fork!" Hahaha. Marcia is a great mentor. One day I am going to get a wheel, too. I love the poppy yarn!

Oh, that "Georgia O'Keeffe" skein came out GORGEOUS! I read Marcia's post and my mouth was watering for breakfast...

Sounds like a wonderful time and I love your new yarn.

Good shot of Marcia. She is remarkably generous, and we all benefit.
Your yarn looks perfectly balanced, and even. Yes?

I always enjoy seeing your beautiful shots of the mountains! What a wonderful job you did on that handspun!

That's my favorite yarn of your yet!! What can I say - I'm a sucker for a gorgeous barberpole!

The yarn is fun, fun, FUN! The hummer part, sounds great!
Posted by: Judy | June 04, 2007 at 05:45 AM
What a fun weekend! That skein is so much fun---and I laughed thinking of the Rubbermaid containers you & I both have, and how you "drug several skeins up for viewing". ;)
Oh, I'd love to take a dip in that lake. It's been TOO HOT up here!
xoxo

that is a sweet dye job sister!

Sounds like an absolutely wonderful weekend! That yarn is stunning - like a poppy, but it could also be inspired by many of O'Keefe's Abiquiu/Ghost Ranch paintings.

I took a photo of that very same breed of poppy over the bank holiday weekend!

That yarn is gorgeous! Great job!

What a remarkable process from dyeing to spinning the Poppy yarn. It really has spun up beautifully. And since reading about your learning to spin and spinning to knit lace sort of pushed me over the edge, I'd like to thank Marcia by proxy too.

That may be your best handspun yet. It's beautiful!
Glad to see SL again. John is on a flight for SLC right now. I couldn't go this time and I'm sad about that. Would love to see the lake again in person. Your photos are the next best thing.

Beautiful yarn! And beautiful view to inspire you!
What kind of a wheel is Emmylou ? You always sound so satisfied with her.

The lake pictures are breathtaking.

What an idylic weekend. And what lucious yarn! I would strongly endorse a simple stockinette project to display the glorious colorful complexity of the yarn. Either that, or just keep it in a nice basket as pet yarn and domestic decor.

Your yarn looks fabulous! And I'm so glad to hear that Silver Lake is finally walkable. I can see a trip to Silver Fork in my near future.

Isn't Marcia the bomb. I hope she can stay for a while on Tuesday night.

Margene, that O'Keefe Poppy-inspired yarn captures the colors in the painting wonderfully. I go weak at the knees for any barberpole yarn, anyway, and this is spectacular! Very nice.

I know you had your doubts about the dye job, but I think the yarn looks beautiful, Margene!

We were SO glad we could get together with you guys yesterday! It was a delight. Your suggestion to walk around the lake was a perfect end to our visit, although I must say that trip back over the pass was not fun for me! I'm a wuss when it comes to heights. As for your spinning, I'm so proud of you....I've always said you would be a natural!

Margene...that yarn is spectacular!!
Posted by: Kim | June 04, 2007 at 08:19 AM
It's breathtaking! I absolutely love it! seeing a skein like this makes me think I should take it up... but I don't think I have the natural touch that you do!
Posted by: Lolly | June 04, 2007 at 08:26 AM
I know you had your reservations about the dye job, but seriously? Spun up? It's GORGEOUS. :)
Posted by: Katinka | June 04, 2007 at 08:29 AM
I never thought I'd say it, but I'm starting to see why people get into the spinning thing. LOVE the yarn.

The Georgia O'Keefe yarn is beautiful!!! I can't think of her without thinking of my Mother. We both have such a love of her flower paintings. It just makes me warm inside to see the yarn you created that was inspired by the Poppy painting.

That yarn is just stunning! Such beautiful colors. And I'm just a sucker for a mountain reflected in a lake photo. Beautiful.
Posted by: Jane | June 04, 2007 at 08:58 AM
Those pictures are breathtaking! I just love the mountains and we don't have any around here. Keep on posting those pics. Your Georgia O'Keefe yarn is wonderful, the colors are amazing, well done!!!

Ahh, beautiful Silver Lake! Isn't this the grandest time, when our mountains are freed up again for us to enjoy? I love your Georgia O'Keefe yarn.
