Still Hookin'
A bit of serendipity landed in my camera. When Moxie and I walk each afternoon I take the camera along...just in case. The landscape is full of blooming flowers and trees and there is a wonderland of opportunity all around. The mountains are often in the background, but it isn't easy to capture them and the flowers. When I saw that Mt. Olympus was in this picture I was very excited. Didn't it turn out great? Click for big.
Monday, while working, I kept a watch out for the mail carrier. My expectation/hope/desire was that she'd show up with a box from the Loopy Ewe, and she did! Sheri has a much respected reputation around Blogland, as a shop that goes above and beyond, and I've experienced it first hand. In this package was a very nice hand written note (grrl, I just love that) and the prettiest stitch marker, which is now a spinning wheel charm. Emmylou deserves some bling, bling, too.
More luscious colors of Louet Gems Sport, in colors that will go nicely with those purchased locally, are now wound and ready to hook...except the 'Ginger' (gold) color. I'm debating whether this is the color is right for the 'unifying effect' on my Larger Than Life Bag. Today I'm going to order a bright red and dark brown, to replace the Ginger color. A trip to the fabric store is coming soon, as the perfect lining needs to be found.
Did you see that I got Teri into hookin’? I'm rather fond of the Boteh scarf too, and think it commands a colorful varigated yarn (like Teri's using). Wonder what's in my stash...
Jennie’s Sound Swap sounded interesting and fun, so I decided to join. My guess is that I’m one of the older people in the group, but what does age have to do with anything, eh? I’m not into the 'oldies'...been there, done that...it's the new tunes I enjoy. Our local community radio station, KRCL, plays a wide variety of sounds, with a mix of old, new, folk, rock, alt-country and indie-pop. I listen all day (you can stream it live) and it is the sound track to my life. Paste Magazine is also a big favorite, as I get a CD mix every month, and find out what's new. It's going to be fun to mix up something for my pal (my first CD mix) and to receive new music, too.
So, what I want to know today is what song is in your head...RIGHT NOW?

Funny you should ask. There actually is a song in my head. It is Amanda Marshall - Dizzy. The stuck part.....
"We think
We're in control ('till we really don't)
We always know ('till we really don't)
Until we don't
Funny how the world can spin so fast (spins around)
And we don't crash (crashin' down)
We just get dizzy (a o-o-o-o-yeah)"
I'll let you discern the meaning .

When you said you stream music all day it reminded me of the time you emailed me and said "they're playing our song" so it's Spirit in the Sky for me right now.
Have a great day!

Funny you should ask that. I listen to my Ipod a lot and for the last few days, Do Something by The Eagles has been playing in my head. It will be on their next CD.

I am SO EXCITED about your bag. Maybe you can make me one and save me the trouble...
I agree that perhaps the gold is not the right color, and got extra-excited when you said bright red and dark brown -- one of my favorite combos.
LOVE that photograph. That should go on cards.

The Loopy ewe is one of my favorite places to shop on-line and Sheri takes such good care of her customers.
For some reason Mellow Yellow has been playing in my head for the past few days.

Lilacs? You have lilacs?! We don't even have tulips yet (leaves but no blooms). But at least there hasn't been any snow for a whole week!
Posted by: Paula | April 25, 2007 at 05:54 AM
Your bag is going to be beautiful! I'm looking forward to giving one a try for my daughter soon!
With the gorgeous weather we have been having lately, the song that has been most on my mind is "Good Morning Starshine"....doobie, doobie, doobie, doobie abadaba...........
Lilacs....sigh....
Posted by: Kim | April 25, 2007 at 06:07 AM
My favorites right now are "Amsterdam" by Peter Bjorn and John and the new Shins album.
I love your lilacs. We used to have the most glorious lilac at our last home, and I miss it every year.

Well of course the song in my head is Fernando by Abba. I could kill Bruce for broadcasting that ridiculous oldies station.
Posted by: susan | April 25, 2007 at 06:11 AM
Gorgeous, gorgeous picture. We're still some weeks away from blooms yet.
I'm in the Sound Swap, too! Since I'm listening to music right now, that's what's in my head - "The Songs that We Sing" by Charlotte Gainsbourg, which was yesterday's Song of the Day from my local public radio station: http://minnesota.publicradio.org/radio/podcasts/song_of_the_day/

E Street Shuffle. Original album recording. Bruce in his early Curtis Mayfield days.

Beautiful picture! Oooh! The skein next to the pink is WONDERFUL! Do tell... I think I might see a STR label, but what colorway?
My song: "They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa. They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa. To the funny farm, where life is beautiful all the time"

I think you'll enjoy the Boteh journey. Thanks for the hug last night--I needed it! ;)

Beautiful picture!
My Dear Country and Not Too Late off the new album from Norah Jones. I love all her stuff, but these two songs just have really great piano.

No song in my head, but deep envy in my heart. I can not wait until it's lilac time in Toronto.

"she's going to change the world...
She's going to change the world..
but she can't.change.me"
Chris Cornell--- saw him live last Thurs and now it's stuck.

I'm with Stacey, got to know what that STR is! The one next to the pink!
I don't have a particular song in my day yet, but shortly I will be flipping through my iPod looking for songs that will lift me up and support me. I need that today. And sometimes music can do that for me.
Posted by: P-la | April 25, 2007 at 07:14 AM
It's that nasty Rick James song with the catchy base line: "She's a very kinky girl..."
A girlfriend loaned me a CD of 80s pop specially designed to clean your house by. First time I've dusted while laughing out loud, but I'm ready to give it back by now.

I agree with Norma - that photo is definitely note card material... you can make your own easily enough by getting 4x6 prints. Just sayin' I have pretty eclectic musical taste - alternative, bluegrass, hard rock, a little hiphop, a little country. The song that caught my attention most recently was "Gimme a Redneck Grrl" (wonder why?!)
Posted by: Birdsong | April 25, 2007 at 07:35 AM
I hope that you are willing to take full responsibility for what you are starting here.
Don't worry, I won't put any blame on you. It's all fiber to me!

"Big Girls Don't Cry" by Fergie.
I know, I'm embarrassed.

your lilacs are ready to wind into balls and be knit up.

Stunning photo! And I'm intrigued with that bag...hmm...haven't hooked in ages, and it does hurt my hand. I'll think on it tho' b/c that's a neat pattern!
'Fraid I'm all classical, most of the time, but right now, it's Michael Buble's "Feelin' Good" (sorry...a remake of an oldie?)
(((hugs)))

LILACS? The damn forsythia just bloomed yesterday here! I think spring will be rather, um, concentrated for us this year! Song...what's going around my head this morning is Willie Nelson, "Consider It Good Times". I agree with Birdsong..that photo is destined for one of your wonderful cards!
Posted by: Marcia Cooke | April 25, 2007 at 08:07 AM
Fabulous photo!!! Turned on the radio Sunday afternoon and heard David Bowie's a "Space Oddity" and it's been hoovering about my brain ever since!
"Ground contol to Major Tom!"
Posted by: Lana | April 25, 2007 at 08:27 AM
Love the lilacs! Blizzard here in CO yesterday, so no lilacs just yet. And I woke up this morning with Alan Jackson's "Drive" running through my head.
Posted by: Cath | April 25, 2007 at 08:27 AM
Beautiful picture. The song in my head right now is the aria from "Lakme" (can't remember the name of it)...made famous by the Virgin Airlines ad...and it's the song we're going to play during our wedding.
Posted by: Beverly | April 25, 2007 at 08:28 AM
Actually there is no song in my head at the moment. Normally there is some crazy kids song from the shows that James watches.
The mountain picture is beautiful!!

You should figure out a cool color palette from your lilac photo (a la http://impulsivearts.typepad.com/knitting/).

Those flowers are amazing!
Posted by: isela | April 25, 2007 at 08:51 AM
Beautiful colors on your post today. My lilacs aren't quite there . . .
Posted by: Tan | April 25, 2007 at 09:01 AM
Mmmm. I can almost smell those lilacs. I think I need to run outside and take a big sniff of the ones in my neighbor's yard.

That picture up top is amazing!

I wish I had room in my head for a song to be playing. Instead, all I can here is my kids whining!
Your granny squares are looking lovely. I'm still waiting for my magazine to arrive in the mail so I can get started, but I'm enjoying your progress!

Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves... I love the beat and wish there was sunshine here in the PNW.

Paulo Nutini -- "New Shoes." Gave that CD to Katie -- our resident fashionista and bonafide shoe freak -- for her birthday after hearing that song only once -- it still makes me smile and want to dance and HEY, GET ME SOME NICE NEW SHOES!!!
Posted by: Vicki | April 25, 2007 at 09:36 AM
I love the colors for your bag, but I agree about replacing the ginger. After a number of attempts I finally figured out how easy the crochet squares are and I've been working on a granny square blanket.
FYI my favorite fabric stores in SLC are Elaine's Quilt Block and another one in Gardiner Village has some nice fabrics. I can't wait to see the end result.

I signed up for that music swap too! My husband gets monthly mixes from InRadio, have you heard of them?
In my head I'm still hearing Gwen Stefani's song that goes B-AN-AN-AS from Body Pump this morning.
Posted by: elizabeth | April 25, 2007 at 09:43 AM
As with many of your other commenters, I'm terribly jealous of your lilacs (just this week the crocuses bloomed here!), and the only mountains I've ever seen have been the Blueridge in VA (my husband says that since there are trees on the top, they don't count). You're lucky to have such good weather and scenery!
The song in my head this morning is Eliza Carthy's "Bold Privateer". I love British folk/trad songs, and have been innundating my brain with balladry for weeks now.
Posted by: Em | April 25, 2007 at 09:59 AM
Gorgeous photo of the lilacs with Mt. Olympus Margene! Did you realize the mountain was there before or after you took the photo??
Song RIGHT NOW: Country Life sung by Dan Zanes from his CD Catch That Train. We have it in the car and Emeline loves this song (just got back from the Y so I was just listening to it!)...
I like to rise when the sun she rises, early in the morning.
I like to hear them small birds singing, merrily upon their lay-land.
And Hoorah for the life of a country kid
And to ramble in the new mown hay.
It's a very happy song and reminds me of when I was kid and lived in the country. To ramble in the new mown hay was real for me. Ahhhh. :)

"Breakfast in America" by Supertramp. Caused by 20 on 20 playing "Cupid's Chokehold" by Gym Class Heroes this morning (took me a while to figure it out, though!).
Posted by: KelInCal | April 25, 2007 at 11:30 AM
what's in my head right now? a song of a genre i never listen to, but i like, lol. i odn't know the title, though, but one of the chorus phrases runs like this "if i need it, i'll buy it. i depend on me." hip hop type song, i think it's by beyonce, but i'm not sure.
Posted by: minnie | April 25, 2007 at 11:34 AM
What a picture! Seriously, that's an amazing shot. You could probably enter it in a contest and win something.
Ever hear of Lloyd Cole? His solo album "Don't Get Weird On me Babe" is the most-played one on my iPod. There are two "sides" to it, one straight-up rock, the other orchestral, jazzy torch songs. The second side is the one I listen to over and over and over.

Living here in the California desert the thing I miss most about the Rockies is lilacs! Thanks for the beautiful picture, I can almost smell them...
Song in my head right now? How We Operate, by Gomez. I don't know what it is, but it's got me hooked right now. I even have it on my phone...
Posted by: Steph B. | April 25, 2007 at 12:00 PM
Gorgeous!
I Want It All by Queen. It's my motivational song before heading out to do yard work. Don't ask. It's weird over here.
Posted by: Cookie | April 25, 2007 at 12:15 PM
It's lovely Margene. Love those colors. And the outside photos too.
Posted by: Kathleen | April 25, 2007 at 02:07 PM
Awesome photo of that flower.
The bag is going to be so lovely. I like the Botek scarf too.
I've been listening to REM's Monster a lot lately and "What's the Frequency, Kenneth?" seems to keep playing in my head.

Okay, don't laugh. I've had the Pussycat Dolls "Dontcha wish your girlfriend was hot like me" in my head all day.

when I first read your first paragraph I saw "when Moxie and I walk each *other* in the afternoon" and loved the concept of the two of you walking "together."
recently I've had Imogen Heap's "Hide and Seek" in my head - it's hauntingly beautiful.
