Walk With Me...
A short distance from our home is a working farm, Wheeler Farm, which is now a County Park & Recreation area. The old farm house stands surrounded by several acres, a few out buildings and a new barn. Big Cottonwood Creek runs through the land which is criss-crossed with dozens of pathways. Smith and I took Moxie to the park for a walk on Sunday and we all had a grand time. It was one of the beautiful days of winter when the sky is clear blue, the temps chilly, but not too, and the landscape is covered with a coating of white.
From every trail you can see breathtaking views of the mountains. The stream and forested land give the feeling of being away from it all, in a secluded quiet place, of solitude. It was very calming to walk through the maze of trails.
It was also enjoyable to feel the cold air nip our cheeks, while Moxie ran and jumped through the snow. He had a wonderful time leading the way. We'll be returning to this park in all seasons to enjoy its calming quiet and miles of trails.
The farm was the perfect place to show off my first finished item of 2007...Bejeweled! She is a perfect scarf for the cold days of winter and the yarn felt so warm and snuggly against my neck.
The yarn is from Norma's Vermont co-op and it was very stiff and rustic, but when washed and blocked it softened beautifully. The yarn is full of texture, but shows off the lace pattern in Bejeweled to full advantage. The warmeth is very welcome around my neck and comfortable to wear. This pattern could be knit in nearly any yarn with fabulous results. Something soft and drapy, such as a kid mohair, cahmere or angora would work just as well. Thank you Shobhana for a wonderful, wearable scarf pattern!
This post is dedicated to you Eastern folk who feel like you've moved to the tropics.

Lovely pattern! It almost looks like crochet. I will have to think about getting that one - trouble is it still isn't cold enough for a coat let alone a scarf here. What happened to the winter?

Ahhhh. Snow. It's beautiful, as is the scarf. And this way I don't have to shovel it or drive in it.

What a beautiful site to model your new scarf. I also bought the pattern -- have to search the stash for something good. And I heard this morning that snow is coming our way this weekend . . .

Oh that looks great on you!

Snow. Sure, rub it in!

I love the picture of Smith and Moxie! Looks like something out of the Waltons :-). They say that we may finally get dumped on here this weekend....fingers are crossed!
I really like Bejeweled!

We finally seem to be getting seasonally appropriate weather. I went for a walk this morning and it was 31 degrees. It was 72 on Saturday. Very strange!

I saw a few snowflakes mixed with the rain last night! I was so excited even though I knew that was all it was. I always complain about snow, but man, you miss it when you don't get your usual quota.

What a fabulous place to walk. It looks like New England until you see those really BIG mountains. Lovely!

Bejeweled is beautiful! The snow looks so inviting and that park is so nice for walking but those moutains are breathtaking.

What beautiful pictures! As an east coaster and snow-lover, I'm definitely jealous!

I love all the Walk With Me Wednesday posts. I can't begin to tell everyone how much I enjoy the scenery, especially your snow and mountain posts. Beautiful scarf, too!

What kind of working farm was Wheeler Farm? I love that old farmhouse!! It looks like a great place for a walk and an FO photo shoot.
Here in Wisconsin we've got nothin' in terms of snow, either. We were warned to have the shovels (plural) ready for the weekend, though, and thank goodness we'll get a little insulating snow before the temps plunge to well below normal next week. That's the forecast, anyway...

Lene of Dances With Wool needs your beautiful sunshine! Our dogs love the snow and that is perfect snow for making snow-dog angels! Your first FO of 2007 is beautiful!

Nice scarf! You have inspired me, and suddenly the appropriate yarn for this pattern (in my stash) popped into my head -- the one they called "knitting an intestine" at Rhinebeck. That thing has got to be RIPPED. It's dead ugly. But that yarn would be awesome for Bejeweled!
Shut up about the snow. Seriously. :)

Do you have to put doggie booties on Moxie for the snow?

Thanks for the snowy posts. I have been enjoying taking Bandit for walks in the morning - and it's helping me add up those miles.
Beautiful scarf!

The squoosh factor of Bejeweled cannot be overestimated. Loved seeing Seaweed AND Bejeweled together. Such stylin'!

Your Bejeweled is the perfect color to complement your entire winter wardrobe (almost aubergine:) The photos are wonderful and I can reminisce about visiting when it was green, but look forward to seeing the farm in white. What a bright, beautiful day you got!

Bulletin from NYC: it's snowing! Yes, it's actually snowing. of course, it may only be a flurry, but who knows?
BTW, Bejeweled is lovely. Thanks for letting us tag along on your walk.

Great scarf! I really like the rustic texture of the yarn. Next trip to SLC, I'm going to check out Wheeler Farm.

Lovely scarf! And ohh...yes, those snowy mountain walks...(sigh)
Well, I can wish, can't I?
It was 25 last night in my part of the "sunny south!"
(((hugs)))

Lovely scarf. And today it is snowing here in Western PA. First real snow of the year but thurs it is supposed to be in the fifties again. I'll just keep reading your blog to remind me what winter looks like.

Gorgeous. And all that snow looks familiar (although your snow looks prettier than mine - must be the lack of wind).
Posted by:Stephanie | January 10, 2007 at 09:57 AM
your bejeweled looks great!

Those pictures make the snow look wonderful! Moxie is so handsome, and I love your new scarf!!!

It's so great to visit historic farms where people lived and DID STUFF!! Bejeweled is beautiful and your trip through the farm is one of my favorite things about winter and cold and snow. Being OUT THERE. I loved seeing your lace updates - everything is coming along so nicely. :)

The farm is beautiful! I very jealous of the snow, since I'm living in the tropical mid-Atlantic region. Today, however, is cold and breezy so I'm feeling comforted that winter still does exist.

Minnesota isn't all that far "east" but thanks for rubbing in the fact that we too are in the tropics this winter. Love the scarf, the color, the pattern and the fact that you took time to walk in the snow!!

Oh you live in a fantastic park of SLC! I love the Wheeler farm. My Mom always talks about what the farm was like when she lived there as a child.

Thanks for sharing the wonderful views. My favorite way to see snow... in pictures.
Your bejeweled is beautiful. Maybe I'll have to knit one.

thanks for the view of chilly. had just a touch of it today and couldn't decide which scarf and hat to wear!

Lovely scarf with fond thoughts of Norma! We had a few flurries in NYC today.

Great bejeweled and such lovely snow. I never thought I'd be jealous of someone having a ton of snow. :)

Well, it is actually in the low-twenties right now. Supposed to get all warm again by the weekend and to have rain :o(

Beautiful! Oh, the scarf is nice too! :)

I love your pics of the mountains and the snow :-) No snow here! We're lucky to get any rain!

That is so sweet that Smith built you a keyboard shelf for your desk. Paul does things like that. Not everyone would think of it, and not everyone would know how.

Such a pretty Bejeweled, M! I love the color you used! I am making mine now, and it is fun and easy - the kind of lace that I can handle! Great pics of the snow - it finally cooled off over here, but still not a single flake :(
Posted by:Lolly | January 11, 2007 at 12:28 PM
The scarf looks wonderful! Mine is finished, blocked & photographed - now to find time to blog it. :)
