Saturday Sky
Sandy truly is a sky watcher and she's wicked silly and super fun. She brought me back to MA from Rhinebeck along with Manise and Beth. I enjoyed getting to know them all better.
Smith and I left fall New England and came home to winter in Utah.
I took the photo on Thursday to show today. It's still clear and beautiful here.
An unexpected and unfortunate event made our last day in MA and our first few hours at home rather sad. Tuesday morning just before we set out to visit the Peabody Essex Museum, our friend Creed called to say that Moxie had escaped from his back yard the day before. Creed lives in a neighborhood far from our own and his constant searching, posting of signs, and calling local animal shelters produced no Moxie. We were all divested and it was a sad journey home, a sad, restless night, and a very dark morning (dreary, rainy weather didn't help the mood, either).
Wednesday I had only been at work a few minutes when Smith called to say that Moxie had been found. Oh, the relief was overwhelming! Creed had placed an ad in the Salt Lake Tribune, which two lovely ladies answered. Moxie had only made it about ½ block when they found him, very shortly after his escape. They fell in love with him (we knew whoever found him would!) and they also took him to the vet to find out his age and see if he could be identified. Unfortunately Moxie didn't have any identification on him. The ladies had taken pictures and fliers were ready to post around the neighborhood, which would have led them to Creed, as his were also posted. It is an understatement to say our mood lifted quickly despite the weather and our hearts were happy again.
We were a little worried about our very old Murphy so he was boarded by the vet. He was cared for so well that he came through with no negative effects. He is old and won't be with us much longer, but for now he his doing fairly well. It's so nice to be home with both our boyz.
Reentry has been tough. How does 8 days away produce so much to do?

Whew. I've been through that one many times with our cats, usually but not always with a happy ending. I'm so glad both of your boyz are safe and sound.
Your mountains are as glorious as always, even with their (brr) frosting.

Oh how scary about the pup!! Glad he's home safe and sound.

I guess Moxie ran out without his wallet, huh? That will teach him!
:)
YOUR SNOW, Margene! LOVE IT! Our sky could not be drearier today. And blowy.
Biscuits all around for Moxie and Murphy!
Oh and P.S., the pleasure was all MINE!

I'm so glad that Moxie was found safe - that's such a worry to have a lost pet. We try to keep dogs we find in the neighborhood in our back yard until we can make signs/walk the neighborhood. I'm happy to say that my sweet husband has walked the neighborhood twice in the past few weeks, going house to house ringing doorbells and has happily found the homes of two dogs we "rescued."
I know I'd want someone else to do the same for me.
Reentry is tough - just keep reminding yourself of all the fun you had!

Hooray for Moxie's safe return and Murphy's continued health. *mwah*

So glad your baby is home!!

Oh my stars, what a relief that Moxie was found!! And I'm so glad that Murphy is doing well.
How fun that you got to know that crazy Sandy. Isn't she fun???
Welcome home, sweetpea!! I want to hear all about that wheel!
xoxo

ohhh thank goodness Moxie's home safe and sound. I would have been sick with worry as I imagine you were. Its amazing how much our pets become part of the family. Give Moxie and Murphy big hugs from me, and a kiss each of course :)

Gotta get Moxie microchipped. One little scan at the vet's office (all of the vets in the states should be equipped by now) and they know your name, address and phone number. All three of my dogs have them, and aside from the initial installation (by syringe), I don't think they even know it's there.

So glad there was a happy ending to this story!
The longer you are gone from home, the more there is to do when you return. I've given up trying to make sense of it.

Thank heavens you've got a happy ending to that story!
Posted by: Beth | October 28, 2006 at 08:20 AM
What good, kind women those were. I keep trying to tell my husband you should treat other people's dogs just like they were your own--what would you want someone to do if this were your dog?--but he's a little thick about it.
Posted by: Martha | October 28, 2006 at 08:29 AM
Oh, god, that sounds wicked scary.
Posted by: susan | October 28, 2006 at 08:34 AM
Glad to hear the little monkey was found. You'll have to have a talk with him about leaving home without his AMEX. Dogs these days, I swear...

I'm so glad Moxie was found!
Take your time with the re-entry. Everything in moderation - unless it's knitting or spinnin :)
Posted by: Stacey | October 28, 2006 at 08:38 AM
I'm so glad you found your guy! Nothing worse than being gone and not being able to help when stuff like that happens. Seems like you're home safe and sound and all's well now. Good.
Posted by: Ann | October 28, 2006 at 08:44 AM
I'm glad for the happy ending!
Posted by: beverly | October 28, 2006 at 08:51 AM
That's always been my fear too. All our dogs are microchipped so hopefully if lost without their collars they will return home safe and sound.
Posted by: Cathy | October 28, 2006 at 08:51 AM
Man, oh, man - you must have been frantic! SO glad that Mr. Moxie is back home, safe and sound!!
Posted by: christine | October 28, 2006 at 09:26 AM
Oh, I'm so glad she turned up and that there was a happy ending to this story! We lost a new puppy once in Salt Lake (and found him the next day, thank goodness!) and I know how worrisome it can be!
Posted by: Kim | October 28, 2006 at 09:37 AM
I love a happy ending!
and yeah - re-entry is the pits.
Posted by: Teyani | October 28, 2006 at 09:57 AM
I'm very glad your little one is home safe and sound!

Our previous cat (Claude is definitely an "indoor" kitty)was missing for several days one time. He was accidentally closed in my neighbor's garage, where he often "vacationed"! Glad the pup is safe and sound.

Good ladies to take care of Moxie. *sighs of massive relief*
What beautiful mountains! What beautiful snow! It hurts.
Posted by: Laurie | October 28, 2006 at 11:01 AM
I didn't have any of the traveling you had, nor any of the emotion of a lost pet, but I'm STILL worn out. I had my hair done this morning, and I have a lot of work I need to do, but I just feel like I need to go take a nap instead. I think I'm going to listen to what my body's telling me. It's rainy and horrid -- a good day for a nap.

I am so glad you got Moxie back. It is heartbreaking when they are missing isn't it? We found a husky a while back but luckily she had a microchip and Animal Services found the owners very quickly.
Posted by: Jacquie | October 28, 2006 at 11:22 AM
Thank goodness everything turned out okay with the boys! Nothing harder than going away and leaving them - even when in the best of hands.
Posted by: Anne | October 28, 2006 at 11:35 AM
I'm so glad you got your dog back! I've had dogs take off and it is a nightmare. Fortunately, I always got them back thanks to kind strangers.
Thank you for the sunny sky to look at. It's raining like you read about in Boston today.

Hi Margene!
Welcome home! Can't wait to read about your journey ~
I am so happy for you that Moxie was found by nice and honest folks. Your poor friend Creed was probably going crazy trying to locate him. What a great guy to go the distance to find him!! I love happy endings!!
Have a great weekend!
Posted by: Debbie | October 28, 2006 at 12:07 PM
OH MARGENE!!!! Oh my gosh. I am so glad that Moxie was found so quickly and was safe all along with the sweet old ladies!!! Oh what panic! Oh what relief. Whew. That's when you say "when I find you I'm gonna kill you from all the worry you caused me!!" hehehe
Happy weekend. You'll recover from Rhinebeck soon enough. :)
Posted by: Laura | October 28, 2006 at 12:40 PM
glad you got Moxie back. We have Trusty and Che microchipped, but I understand if the person who tries to read the chip has a reader from a different company than our chip came from, it will come up blank. So not sure that's such a big help either.
Posted by: Tan Summers | October 28, 2006 at 12:41 PM
Thank goodness Moxie's safe and sound. He and Vincent had better get on the straight and narrow and quit scaring the juice out of everybody. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Hurray that Moxie is safe and sound! That would be a true bummer at the end of a fun vacation!
Posted by: Leah | October 28, 2006 at 01:27 PM
Scary story, but I'm so glad it had a happy ending! That stuff scares me . . .
Posted by: --Deb | October 28, 2006 at 02:36 PM
Wheew! So glad you found poor Moxie!

The Peabody Essex is wonderful though...I hope you were able to enjoy it. And very relieved to read Moxie was fine. Naughty boy.

Beautiful mountains!
Posted by: Magatha | October 28, 2006 at 03:04 PM
Glad to hear Moxie was found safe. Your pic of the mountains is beautiful - and did you happen to catch the sunset Thursday night? Spectacular! I wish I'd had a camera with me.
Posted by: Cheryl | October 28, 2006 at 05:02 PM
Glad all is well! My cat pulled the same stunt on Tues, but that's half a post. :)
Posted by: Carol | October 28, 2006 at 06:03 PM
Can't believe that this time last week I was watching you get drunk.
Posted by: Cara | October 28, 2006 at 06:07 PM
I started tearing up when I was reading your post. I'm so glad you found Moxie!
Posted by: Bear Knits | October 28, 2006 at 07:36 PM
So glad Moxie is okay!! I've been in the same boat a couple times, and I know how you must have felt. Give the little guy another hug, just for the heck of it.
Posted by: Pat K | October 28, 2006 at 09:29 PM
Yeah, well, you know how my reentry has gone. ; )
So happy to hear that your dogs are home and doing well!
Posted by: Vicki | October 28, 2006 at 10:20 PM
I'm glad your pups are ok. Having something happen to one is a vacation fear of mine. Not to mention I hate all the work that comes with re-entry :)
Posted by: Amy Boogie | October 29, 2006 at 01:32 AM
Glad to hear your boys are both safe and well, I always worry more about the dog than I do my kids when I leave. Coming back after a trip is always tough.
Posted by: yvette | October 29, 2006 at 01:28 AM
So happy to hear that your boys are home safe. Its a shame that Moxie's adventure marred the end of your own.
Posted by: hillary | October 29, 2006 at 05:42 AM
Thank goodness Moxie was found! My now 13-year-old dog was lost when she was about a year in my parents' woods. Luckily, she found her way back home. I can't imagine life in the past decade without my baby.
Posted by: Alison | October 29, 2006 at 05:52 AM
Oh I am SO glad that Moxie was found and is no worse for wear! I'm sure Moxie was receiving lots of extra hugs abd love after returning!
What wonderful ladies to take the time to find his proper home. :)
Posted by: Lizzy B | October 29, 2006 at 06:59 AM
so glad to know moxie was returned safe and sound. 8 days away means at least 8 days for re-entry!
Posted by: amanda | October 29, 2006 at 07:24 AM
A lovely photo of Creed and Moxie... I am sure he felt overwhelmed having to make that call, but so glad Moxie was rescued by people honest enough to answer the ad rather than just keep him for themselves (I would have too, but would have asked for visitation rights:)
