Impromptu Fun
Flexiblity is a great way to approach each day. Learning to go with the flow and enjoying serendipitous happenings, usually makes the day better than the best laid plans. That's the way our Fourth of July went...one unexpected event after another.
After a slow start to the day we set out to have a late breakfast at Silver Fork (redundancy does have its advantages) with further plans to head up over Guardsman's Pass, down into Midway and onto Sundance through the back roads. After that we'd venture on over American Fork Canyon, down into Utah County, and then head back to Salt Lake in the early afternoon. This long, large loop around and about our canyons is a favorite of ours during wildflower and fall foliage seasons. The thought was we would be home in time for dip in the pool and then
barbecue some lamb on the grill. The only dissapointment was that it
would be far to hot to dine on the patio.
The first problem we encountered was at Silver Fork... there was over an hour wait for a table. The impromptu happening was that Jess, a knitting friend from the guild, was waiting for a table with her husband. Since they were much closer to the top of the list it was decided we would join them. The waiting time went quickly with the guys talking about cars and Jess and I enjoying a chat about knitting (of course!) and then we dined on the deck in the near perfect mountain air.
After our delightful time together, we went our separate ways with Smith and I heading up to Guardsman's Pass a short distance away. We took of few pictures of CeCe (only one was good) and then Smith spotted a trail. Following the trail, which lead across the face of the mountain and through meadows of wildflowers and craggy rocks, we met a gentleman who told us there was a lake about 5 minutes up ahead. A lake? We had no idea. There are several lakes in the area, unknown to many, as they are actually reservoirs of water for the counties surrounding the Wasatch Mountains.
The lake was in a deep bowl and the descent was steep, so we ventured no closer. It was a very picturesque view of a place unknown to us until this moment. Yes, the sky was that color, grayish white, as the clouds were moving in and a storm was beginning to form. I did find a tree to hug on our way back up the trail.
By this time it was later than we had anticipated and we decided to head back home. Just after our arriveal the skies to open up with natures own firework show of wind, lightning and thunder.
By dinner time the storm had run its course and the temperatures were cool enough to knit, grill and dine on the patio. Moxie and Murphy were very happy to enjoy the evening with us. The only part of the day I didn't think would happen did
(patio time) and we enjoyed a nice ending to our weekend of mountain adventure and
fun.
CeCe will make her debut tomorrow! Can you believe it's almost time for the weekend again?
Utah Grrl, Karen of Sleeping Dragon Yarn fame, has a pattern in Knitty! The Dancing Lady Socks are knit with her own yarn in the same colorway, Purple Night, that I'm also using to knit the above pair of socks. Congratulations grrlfriend!
P.S. Rumors of my wheel acquisition have been greatly exaggerated. When I have one in hand (or coming my way) you will all know.

Love the scenery, but the look on Moxie's face. "Don't you think about touching the stash!" lol

It's good to have friends in the right places. What a beautiful lake! Love those blue-greens (it would probably be blue if the sky were blue, no?). Sounds like a great day overall.

Aww, I'm disappointed! I was so sure it was true this time ;-)

Impromptu is almost always the best. we have the most fun when we're flexible. I'm glad that your 4th turned out so well.

A day to envy! Sounds beautiful.

Every time you talk about breakfast at Silver Fork, I put on five pounds. That's 15 pounds so far this week. You better STOP!

Glad you had a good weekend! I had heard you guys had some crazy weather. Your pics are lovely as always.

Seriously. What Norma said. And now I'm hungry. Mmmmm. Breakfast.
You are such a tease! And who thought you got a wheel?

How fun to discover a lake you didn't know was there! Sounds like a great day...maybe even better than planned.

All I can think of (I'm not awake) is that you are always so CUTE on your hikes. Who wears white capris hiking? I'm always such a schlep when I'm out hiking around!!! lol

How cool that an area that is so familiar to you can still offer up such beautiful surprises!

Moxie looks so much cuter in his baby doll tee.

So you may not have acquired said wheel yet, but you have chosen the one to acquire (at least from what I've read...) and that's very nearly as good! What a tantalizing little hint to drop...
And I'm glad you got to eat on the patio after all. :-)

Love the tree hugging photo. And I see that Moxie's fur is growing in a bit. Glad you got to eat on the patio. Have people been hounding you about the wheel? I certainly expect to be among the first to know when you've decided. ;-)

It sounds like a lovely sort of day, Margene! It is indeed always nice to be flexible.

I like the photo of you modeling CeCe with the crooked tree... but I can tell it doesn't show CeCe off in her full glory! Sometimes the best things happen if we aren't slaves to an agenda - sounds like a happy day together.

Sounds like a lovely holiday. And I would expect you'd share such exciting wheel news with us.

I also try to take unexpected routes when they appear. It's easy to get into a rut, so it's awesome that you rolled with the punches and had a great day!

What a beautiful lake! You and Smith will have to try to find a way down to it and I am sure the waters would be clean and pure. Happy sock knitting! Just finished Picchu Picchu with Ultra Alpaca - too warm to knit any more sweaters until fall, unless they are baby sweaters in cotton!

Okay - you get the "almost peed my pants" award for today. The picture of you behind the tree, coupled with the look on Moxie's face was just too much for moi.........(giggle)

Sounds like a fabulous time!

Your doggies are so adorable. Bailey and I know who to call for a play date. :)
Now what's this about a WHEEL???? Hmmmmm? I'm dying of anticipation here! :)
Thank you for your note, grrlfriend. I love ya. xoxo
