First Two Days of Four Days Off!

If you come to Utah and spend time with me, you will very likely find yourself having breakfast at Silver Fork and taking a short trek around Silver Lake. That's just what happened to Shannon on Saturday morning. We spent two and a half hours talking, eating (on the deck) and then trekking with our Trekking socks. As has been the case with many of the bloggers I've met face to face we started out feeling comfortable and chatting easily. Sadly no moose were sighted and the time went by too quickly. My Trekking sock has had little attention lately and it barely made it out of the bag that Trek made.
This mother duck with her ducklings had a great time eating the goodies tossed to them by two young boys who were fishing. There isn't a pretty place to enjoy the out of doors than sitting beside a mountain lake with the wildlife, the reflection of the mountains that loom overhead and the clear blue sky. It's also a wonderful place to walk while you chat with new friends. Next time Shannon is here we'll plan a little more time together.

The next day Smith and I headed up to the No Worries Café for breakfast and the Trekking Sock FINALLY had some extra attention, until my food arrived. After the delicious repast we took a drive up Lambs Canyon. We have both lived here nearly all our lives and neither of us have taken the time to drive up this short, narrow, lush canyon just off I-80 in Parley's Canyon. AND, neither of us knew it was a haven for butterflies! Several times the butterflies filled the air around us like confetti. If you look at the two links above you'll see many of the species found here. It was easy to see one big reason they like this spot as wildflowers and milkweed are in abundance.
Hummingbirds were heard and sighted and the place must be full of other unseen wildlife. It was such a quiet, unique and beautiful spot. The canyon dead ends in less than four miles at a gate as the land beyond is privately owned. (It seems to be a year round residence.)
Today I'm off early for a 'real' hike with Val and Karen, the only two Stitch 'n Bitch grrls who had time to come along. CeCe (did you spot her in the picture above?) and more details on the July 4th weekend later in the week. Enjoy your Holiday!!

Oh, Margene, you keep writing posts like this and we're all going to descend like locusts upon SLC to visit you! Wish I was there!

What Susan said. Such sky! Such ducks! Such wildflowers! And the one thing we don't have here, the amazing mountains. (What do you call our mountains again? Bumps?)

Mountain lake, critters, big beautiful sky - ok, I'm looking at my calendar for travel with DH possibilities! My only adventure involving Utah so far was a drive through with a messed up overnight - somehow our reservations didn't work out and 16 of us (college students and advisors) ended up imposing on someone's friend in college housing in Provo in the middle of the night. The poor guy's girlfriend stopped by in the morning not knowing his living room was filled with other young women in sleeping bags.

WOW! A butterfly and hummingbird canyon sanctuary. That would become one of my favorite destinations...I'm amazed that you guys have not visited it before.

Have a great time hiking!

I thought that looked like Cece. I can't wait for the real photo shoot.
I thought of your gorgeous blue skies as I took photos of my Saturday sky. Compared to yours, ours are pale and anemic.

The next time we come out, we will have to meet up with you and Smith for breakfast at No Worries Cafe! I love that place! And who knew about Lamb's Canyon?! We drive back and forth past that sign all the time between SLC and PC. Thanks for the heads up! Enjoy the vacation, mini as it might be.

Nice weekend! Hope the next two days are as much fun.

Wouldn't you live there full time if the place was yours? Butterflies and hummingbirds and quiet and nature, wonderful!

Beautiful pictures as always!

The first thing I noticed was that you were wearing a finished Cece at breakfast. Then I noticed the food. Is that French toast? Yummm.
And as for the 4 days off, who's bragging now? Hmmmm?

Ditto what Susan said! Margene I think I might run away from home and come live with you if you keep showing all these beautiful photos of mountains and flowers and lakes and talking about eating at the SFL! ::composing myself:: One day. I'll come visit you. :)

What a lovely day spent with CeCe AND butterflies and hummers, not to mention Smith! Looks like I have a third of CeCe still to finish, and should be looking forward to wearing her - you look very cute in yours.
