There Is Magic Afoot
Blogland can be the most magical place. Last February/March I had several contest on this blog. One of the questions was "What is my favorite spot for breakfast?" Tracy came up with the right answer (Silver Fork) and won the drawing for a skein of Trekking XXL in color #133. At the time she mentioned her husband came to Salt Lake on occasion. Well, this weekend he's coming again and she will travel with him. Tomorrow I will be taking Tracy, along with her finished Trekking #133 socks, to Silver Fork for breakfast. We'll also trek around Silver Lake and hopefully find a few minutes to knit. Isn't it funny how things turn out some times?
The yarn from my Dye-O-Rama pal arrived on Monday. I was surprised to see a package from Birdsong, who will travel here next Thursday. (She and Carole will head out to Estes with our Ewe-tah gang.) As soon as I opened the package I ooh and awwed over the yarn while having a good laugh about the ruse. (I had NO idea she was my pal!) She dyed the yarn with cochineal expecting it to be a reddish color. This dusty lavender was a happy surprise, as I love purple as much as red. What you can't see are the subtle changes in intensity that will be more apparent when the yarn is knit. Since it has a feeling of Victorian charm, something in Knitting Vintage Socks might be just the thing. Also included in the package was a set of beautiful stitch markers made with handmade beads. They are the perfect accompaniment to the yarn.
The pal I sent yarn to was Pamela of the Purling P's. She started 200Sox at the first of the year and I made my first button for the KAL. She loved the Blood Orange yarn that Susan and Teri helped me dye. Thank you Scout for a fun secret swap and challenge!
The best bit of magic is that we DID knit up some bone for Mr. Ether! What fantastic news to hear that surgery won't be needed and Laurie might be able to relax. Mr Ether's bones are knitting together well.
The last bit of magic (this week) was the pretty May PS postcard which arrived from Jane. Jane takes beautiful photos and this one, of a green frog peaking through lily pads, was on her blog some time ago. It's so much fun to have a print of my own in the way of a postcard.
Enjoy your weekend and get a short trek in if you have time. Summer is in full swing!

Summer might be in full swing where you are but here in the Northeast it's cold and rainy. Again. Or should I say still? You're right about the Magic, though. And I'm so happy to be a part of it.

That cochineal yarn is such a great color. I enjoyed reading her entry about how it was made the other day. The world gets smaller every day - magic indeed!

I really love the lavender yarn that Birdsong made for you - you're right - it definitely has a vintage feel.
I'm really longing to be up there with you and Tracy - oh how fun it would be to spend time with two of my absolute favorite bloggers. :)

I can't wait until next week, Margene. I was just saying this morning that I'm in desperate need of some grownup excape from my usual stuff.
That cochineal yarn is dropdead gorgeous, too!

Our library computer guy is going to SLC for training. I wanted to stow away with him. DH says he thinks you would be fun to hang out with. Then he says, "Oh no, I'm doing it too!" (Acting as if he knows bloggers I read.)Oh well. My Trekking sock is going on a walk tomorrow.

A trek of some sort is an excellent idea! Did I ever officially sign up for Trek With Me? What a great summary of all the magic being generated, especially lately. I will have to go over and let Laurie know how relieved I am for them. Have a lovely late spring weekend.

Now that's a Margene color for sure. :-) I can see it becoming something elegant and lacy.

The yarn is gorgeous---it looks like laceweight in the picture. Could it make a shawl??
