From Spring to Winter
Click to see a bigger picture of our sugar frosted trees and the granite cupcake. You didn't know winter could look so edible, did you? Let's pretend the creek (crick, if you're in Utah) is hot chocolate.
This is what we woke to on Sunday morning...what a difference a day makes. Saturday was 70 degrees, warm and blustery from the southern wind. It was just too nice a day and I couldn't imagine putting my feet into hand knit socks and shoes. So, the new sandals came out of the closet and onto my feet (sans pedicure) for our LYS crawl day. Sunday I couldn't wait to put my feet into warm hand knit socks and shoes before we headed out for breakfast. The sky was cloudy in the valley but, it was still snowing in the higher elevations.
Saturday Katherine, Heather, Karen and I met at Black Sheep to begin our yarn venture. With gift certificates from my birthday I was able to get Elsbeth Lavold's new book "The Enchanted Garden Collection", which has a nice selections of patterns for the new yarn, Hempathy. The first sweater I'll knit, with this dusty blue yarn, is on the cover . The detail on the hem around the body and sleeves of Tilia is elegant and just the right amount of detail for a the type of sweater I like to wear. (This sweater can also be knit with Silky Wool of you prefer.) That's the bulk of the shopping I did for the day but, I have a thing or two to show you later in the week (for Project Spectrum). We met up with Teri and Susan as we made our way around the valley and had a good time shipping with the grrls.
Kim had a picture of her new puppy Bailey and Woolen Rabbit Kim had a picture of her beautiful new grrl, Bibbity. So, not to be out done, yesterday when Moxie came to say hello to Smith I was happy to have the camera in hand. Say aaahhhh....

Look at that sweet dog!

What a beautiful frosted landscape! We didn't hvaemuch winter, and that looks so delightful. You sure do have extremes in weather out there, though.

Beautiful landscape, and cute dog (and husband!)
Posted by: Annie | March 27, 2006 at 04:23 AM
Lovely dog! What "variety" is she? Strangely all the dogs seem to be trying to get into the action this weekend, I have just posted a photo of my knitting helper!

The snow is so beautiful in that photo. Here in Charleston, we are still waiting for that first warm Spring day, but it will come soon.
Ahhhh indeed. Moxie is adorable.

Awwww, Moxie is too cute.
And the yarn porn ... lovely. Just need to remind myself, only a few more days.

Moxie is adorable!! Suddenly I'm seeing Schnauzers everywhere--I love it!
Posted by: Kim | March 27, 2006 at 05:41 AM
I love your new sweater choice!!! It is so dainty ;-).
What a cutie Moxie is!! Next to Cavaliers, schnauzers are my favorite small dog ;-)
PS......Keep the snow out there, pretty please. It looks like we may get an early spring ;-)

I love that sugar-frosted look. Our weather does that too (as the saying goes, don't like New England weather? wait 10 minutes), but as Dave said, not so much this year.
Awww, the puppy!

LOVELY!! The view, the yarn, and the Moxie/Smith photo. Sweetness all around. :)
Posted by: Laura | March 27, 2006 at 05:58 AM
Even though I'm completely dogged (and catted) out, Moxie is very cute. Sounds like a great weekend!
Posted by: Cara | March 27, 2006 at 06:10 AM
What sort of sleeve cap does Tilia have? I can't tell from the picture whether it is a set-in sleeve or a drop.
Posted by: claudia | March 27, 2006 at 06:25 AM
Moxie is a sweetie! And I love that sweater, and just so happen to have Silky Wool on hand....now I just need time. I feel like a broken record. It's really not as dire as I make it out to be most of the time. ;-)

I love Moxie anad Smith comparing mustaches!

Your men are too cute! ;)

Awww, cute doggie picture.
I had heard there was bad weather out that way! Hope spring returns to you soon!

I still think Utah's trying to win me over from leaving Kansas. There might not be tornadoes touching down right next door (nearly knocked over my parents' home two weeks ago) but it'll make up for it by not being able to decide between various seasons. :)
Gorgeous pictures and Moxie's a love. Also, I'm curious about that book, is it mostly knitted sweaters?

Ohmygosh, I love the sugar-frosted trees! Terrific sweater -- sounds like a great day!!

Oh - that book has some very wonderful sweaters...........note to self - buy book.
Moxie is adorable, and has very good taste in gourmet dog treats. Those little pizza cookies are amazing - Ben says THANKS!!!!!

If you didn't post all the snow pictures, I'd never get my winter fix.

Great outdoor photos!
Our little ones are going to preschool & school in shorts!
Love the doggy photo.

That snowy landscape is so beautiful. Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend.

Smith's Roots Canada hat matches my favorite sweatshirt. I think that was the coolest Olympic gear ever!
Posted by: Christy | March 27, 2006 at 08:09 AM
Okay, now you're making me hungry.
And, yes--cute doggie picture! (Aren't they all?)

Tilia is going to be a great sweater. It's going to look wonderful on you, too.
Moxie is adorable. And Smith is kinda cute, too. :-)

Love the frosty foto. And that will be a beautiful sweater. There are several keeper patterns in that book. Very cute pup shot. Looks like he just came back from the beauty shop - Moxie that is.
Posted by: Julia | March 27, 2006 at 08:41 AM
That sweater is going to be lovely. I have lots of Silky Wool in stash. I may just have to check it out.
And such pretty scenery!
Posted by: Leah | March 27, 2006 at 08:42 AM
Don't you just adore it when they come right up to you like that, staring you straight in the eyes? It's pure love!
Posted by: Tracy | March 27, 2006 at 08:44 AM
The landscape picture is the best one yet!! I really like it.
Posted by: Isela | March 27, 2006 at 08:49 AM
I saw that book last week. That sweater is my favorite. Can't wait to see you in it.
And yum. Brrrr yes, but yum.

New Lavold, how exciting! Though I'm not sure how I would feel about knitting with hemp... is it anything like linen? Please do tell us how you like it, once you've started. :-)

What a great picture of M & M! Esplain me, please, how can I be homesick for Utah when I've never lived there? ack. Can't wait to see the sweater. It's a great color for you.
big hug.

Pretty snow! I love days like that. :)

Awwww. I just love spring in the Rockies - the variable weather keeps things interesting. I'm glad you had a good shopping venture and the new sweater is really cute.
Posted by: Stephanie | March 27, 2006 at 09:24 AM
That sweater is going to be beautiful! Moxie is adorable!
Posted by: eliza | March 27, 2006 at 09:24 AM
That is one cute dog! Your husband too for that matter.
I've never knit any EL patterns, how are they? Tilia is a lovely pattern and I bet the shape will look really good on you. That color is stunning.

Mother Nature certainly does 'frosting' well! Such a change in weather! Love your shopping buys! Any day with girlfriends is a good one!
Posted by: Peg | March 27, 2006 at 09:33 AM
Lovely weekend! Heh, your granite "cupcake" reminded me of an old Saturday Night Live skit, about a cereal made from granite (mocking Grape Nuts).
Posted by: Chris | March 27, 2006 at 09:43 AM
The winter weather is probably getting old (especially when you are teased with sandal weather), but it makes for some beautiful pictures!

I'm still trying to decide where to spend my birthday dollars :) Anticipation is sometimes more fun than realization, don't you think??
Moxie is darling, and he looks an awful lot like my Kramer. Schnauzers are such funny little guys.

No kidding about the snow - see my Saturday post for a similar picture - I'm tired of it now and ready for spring - not ready for the sandals yet - but spring yes!!!
Posted by: Julie | March 27, 2006 at 10:19 AM
Oh no, sorry you've had a spring "setback." I laughed when I read about your sandals coming out of the closet, because I kept thinking I needed to go shopping for some new sandals, but today I've got the handknit socks and clogs on again too! :)
Posted by: Sharlene | March 27, 2006 at 10:36 AM
Oh my goodness, Moxie's a cutie. What a wonderful picture.
And oh, my, the snow! I hope that doesn't come Denver-ward. I think I'm about done with snow for the year.

I just got done taking the attorney down the hall's dog, Mack, a schnauzer puppy of about 18 weeks outside to go potty. He's tryin gto get used to wearing a gentle leader. He's such a social pup because he's here at the office during the day for now. It's fun to go down and get some snuggles.

I do have to say Ahhh! What a pair of cuties. I'm without my little sweetie Shadow this week, and I am surprised at how much he fills my day normally--I put a dirty dish on the floor, and it stays there unlicked. You'd think I'd learn.....
Posted by: Janine B. | March 27, 2006 at 03:46 PM
The girls think Moxie's -hot-! And Smith ain't so bad either!
Happy day! Stay warm!

I'm using Hempathy for my Mountain Peaks Shawl (same color too!) and I **LOVE** knitting with it - bet you will too!
