Last week had to be one of the luckiest weeks ever! I not only won the two contests I told you about on Friday, I also won a prize from Bliss! She went through a few very rough weeks with Bunny, her sweet little poodle and when Bunny was gone she was so devastated. Many of us have been in her shoes and know how much it hurts. But, on Friday she had a post that sounded so happy and she was playing with (and adding to) her yarn stash to boot. Bliss admitted that something was keeping her too busy to knit and asked if we could guess what it was. Because her post was so full of joy I just had a feeling she had a new little puppy to keep her busy. Well, I was right! She had not one sweet new puppy but TWO! The good news is that she's giving away another prize and you could win! Check out her post and name the puppies!
Sunday the sky was a bluer, blue than it has been in weeks. The days have been gray, rainy, perhaps a little snow now and then, and only short glimpses of blue. As you can see in the picture above, the view on Sunday was clear and the air crisp and clean. From the east side of the Salt Lake Valley, near the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon, you can see the Oquirrh mountains and the Great Salt Lake. A view like that keeps the world in perspective and we were able to capture it as we headed home from a trip up the canyon for breakfast. It was snowing in the higher elevations and there is a ton of snow. It is looking as deep or deeper than last years total. Can you believe this is the front of Silver Fork Lodge? It completely blocks the view from (and to) the front window. Don't worry Laurie, if it didn't snow again you'd have plenty of snow for your trip next month.

On Saturday and Sunday the Salt Lake Knitters Guild brought in Melissa Leapman to teach. I took the afternoon classes and found them to be very rewarding. The first day was all about edgings and we learned several very cool and magical techniques such as, knit on fringe, knit in tassels, pleats, a zigzag bobble edge, and many different hemming techniques. Melissa is funny, charming, talented and professional, not to mention beautiful. She looked so great in all of her sample sweaters, which made us all want to knit them. She has several books on knitting and crochet and her new book coming in September is on cables, FABULOUS cables. That was the subject of the second days class, Celtic Cables. There will be cable work in my future.
Blogland is a wonderful place to meet and make friends. Vicki summed up so beautifully how many of us feel in her post on Saturday. I am very fortunate to have virtually 'met' friends I may not have met face to face, as yet, but I know they will be friends for life.
AND to make things even better, I finished the body for Rosarie, made good progress on Gloria, took pictures of the 'oh so fabulous' STR Fancy Silk Socks, and found yarn for my Sockapaloooza pal. Plus, the only part of the Super Bowl I watched was half time and the Rolling Stones!! Oh baby, I loved the Stones more than any group in the 60's and knew every word to every song. I saw them in 1992 (thanks Carole for remembering the date) and sang along, as loud as I could, and danced until I could no more. Those boys are just awesome still.

love that red sweater she's wearing - which pattern is it?
ps. glad to have missed all the drama/bullshit that went on and continues to go on .... wanted to let you know you are one of the highlights of "the blogosphere"

Look at all that snow. Rub it in, why don't ya? ;)

I second the question, "what is that she's wearing" on Melissa Leapman. Cables are very, very good. Even in pink ;-)
Trouble is, I have to worry about looking like a cabled linebacker...and since Leapman has a tendency to shape things fairly well, I'll be interested to see what she does in her book. Please, please, please, let there be curves...

I love the picture of all your little samples. I may have to get that cable book when it comes out.

I took a crochet class from Melissa Leapman in December ... she is such a wonderful teacher. I a rank beginner in crochet, and hate feeling incompetent, which can make me a cranky and defensive student ... but she was charming, encouraging and so upbeat that I came away not only determined to master the skill but positive I can.
I can't wait to read her new book.

Three prizes in one week? Reminds me of the line in When Harry Met Sally...:I'll have what she's having."

That's her in the beautiful hooded cardi? You're right ... I'd love to knit that! And thanks for the heads up on her coming new book ... I love cables and surely would watch out for this!
Share you feeling about blogland ... I "met" a lot of wonderful and inspiring people through the blogs.

She is quite wonderful. I did that edging workshop with her in December, but she didn't offer the cable one. I can't wait til her book comes out.
And I can't wait for all that snow!
