Her Name was Lola
...she was a showgrrl. With feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there....*
A moment of Christmas insanity!?
What came over me!?
The ghost of Christmas Present (who looked a bit like Barely Manly-o) came to me and whispered in my ear, "You could knit just a few gifts this year. It won't take you long and it will be quick and easy. Everyone can knit a scarf up in a hurry and you could, too." He disappeared in a puff, leaving a silly little evil giggle floating through the air. My Christmas nightmare come true?
In a fit of mania, I ordered some Suri Dream from Knit Picks and Susan's Bella scarf pattern. While still in the stupor of glee from the visit of Christmas Present, I knit up two scarves for my office mates. Suri Dream is a lovely yarn made of alpaca and wool. It's very soft and has a nice fluff, without shedding too much. It is just the sort of thing the office grrls will love. It was an easy and creative pattern, which just flew off the needles with a flourish.
Teri was unfortunate enough to be caught up in the mania with me, but that meant she was able to fulfilled her dream of being Lola for a day. Grrlfriends who will join you in a bit of insanity are pretty awesome. After the drunken Christmas mania left us all, Teri and Gwen posed in a more traditional way, each with a Bella.
Didn't I tell you Christmas knitting could be dangerous?!?
The real Margene, the non-scarf knitting, non-Christmas knitting, Barely Manly-o hating grrl, will return tomorrow.

I'm glad you made a nice scarf and all, but did you have to do that to me with the Barry Manilow so early in the morning? Sheesh. With apologies to Cara, Ann and Vicki! LOL

Hey! How did you get your hands on Suri Dream so soon? KnitPicks told me it wasn't available until after 12/19. Lucky you! And your office mates to get the gift of such softness.

have you gone over to the dark side? Once you open that Manilow door, it's impossible to close.....

Oh Teri is a hoot. She's not gonna live this one down for a while, I think.

Lola never looked so, um, warm! I had fun being silly for ya. :)

ummm, yeah, thanks-- I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to deal with Barry's voice in my head all day!
The scarves are lovely, though!

I thought Lola's flowers were yellow! Hrm, the Copa will be haunting me all day. Those scarves are lovely on the Grrls. :) Go you!

She can merengue and do the cha-cha... Great, now I've got that song in my head! Heehee!
Beautiful scarves.

How can you hate Barry Manilow??? He's one of the recording geniuses of our time.
Posted by: susan | December 13, 2005 at 08:23 AM
How's the Suri Dream to work with? Does it shed much? And is the scarf warm enough to be useful as well as decorative?
I love the colors you picked (especially the orange!)

You made me so happy OH MARGENE! Well you came and you gave without taking! But I sent you away OH MARGENE! I need you today OH MARGENE!

I wish people who I made scarves for looked that excited when they got them! hehe I have been tempted to try that yarn too and I probably will...one of these days. :)

Oh boy, now I'm going to be singing that song all day. A girl in the office has a pet ferret named Lola, so we sing about her often anyway.

What lovely models you have there! :)

Obviously I went home too soon. And HOW did you manage to get Teri drunk enough to do that?
Posted by: Katherine | December 13, 2005 at 10:56 AM
Ah, the dreaded Christmas knitting. I'm very impressed.

I heard "Barely" singing "Jingle Bells" on the radio last night -- guess who immediately sprang to mind? My Barely singing-along buddies, that's who!! And a big ol' smile all the way home...
Heeee, "Lola" looks like a natural. ; )

Very cute scarves Margene...I can't believe you did it though. Actually, I can. Remember when I won your contest on when you would break your yarn not buying agreement....
