Bring On the Snow!

  Snowonmoutsatsilfk

Little by little the snow is stacking up, as winter takes her time arriving here in fair Utah.  Even with dreary, blustery days, the temperatures are warm and precipitation is low. Mountain peaks are not completely covered with our famous white powder, as yet, but we had to head up see how much snow there was. (A few diehard skiers were hiking up and skiing down...now that is desperation!)

The finished mittens also needed to be in 'the elements' to show what they could do. This bright, happy pair of mittens couldn't wait to dive into the pure white snow just to see if they could stand the cold.

Look at that!  They know just what to do! This snows for you.

Helene asked to see the backside of the Roositud technique.

Insideofmittenmessroositud

As you can see, the Roositud makes long floats on the back side, but they are not long enough to catch your fingers as you slide your hand inside.

And Sandy asked how the little braided tail was made.  I'll write up details of that little trick for tomorrows post.

oooh those roositud cuffs look great! i have to thank you for pointing that out. i always thought it was actual embroidery but once i realized it was a knitting technique i had to try it out! i just started a pair of socks to give it a try. yours looks so nice and even...hopefully i can get close to yours!

Love the real-life demonstration of mittenability! I'm dreaming of Utah powder, and love seeing an early start. We had rain last night.

Man alive, Laurie's up early today. She's already been all over the place with the comments.
Anyway, the mittens look great and I love the demo in the snow. It was 74+ degrees here on Saturday, quite a difference from our snow storm the previous week!

Super cute Margene!

Your snow is so pretty (and the mittens look so warm) that maybe winter coming won't be so bad. Wait! What am I thinking?! :)

Love them! The cuff is really lovely. Mittens are next on my list. Well, after another pair of socks. Or along with the socks? We'll see.

It was in the 70s over the weekend here - I know I'm going to regret saying this - but we could do with some snow!

So pretty! I just picked up Folk Knitting in Estonia from my library, and have been overwhelmed with the gorgeousness in there. So many wonderful projects.

Beautiful! and love the mitten durability test ;)

I saw the leftovers of an overnight snow on my neighbor's roof the other morning, so even the valley has had a dusting. soon the mountains will be covered!

What sweet mittens! I love that roositud stitchery. Does Nancy ever get to the east coast?

In my travels to Patternworks this weekend, I picked up Knitting in Estonia. Nancy should put you on commission....hehe!

Love the mittens and the snow. My husband is in SLC this week. Too bad I didn't get to go with him.

The mittens look great and warm!

I really love that color.

You make mittens look really good, lady!

Look at that beautiful snow! Send some up North, will you?

Those mittens turned out SO great. I'm spinning the second bobbin for mine now, and I can't wait to ply this stuff up and get knitting.

Lovely mittens, and they certainly do look happy to be playing in the snow. I haven't tried knitting mittens yet, and since I don't have any plans to do so in the near future (read: too many WIPs) the snow can just hold itself off in my part of the world, thanks very much.

How sweet and feminine - the roositud looks like a little quilt block. Perfect for a grrl. :)

It's been beautiful here too in Abq. I think it's supposed to be 72' today!

I love the mittens!

Great mittens!

The mittens are beautiful!! And with the snow -- even better!! I love snow!!

Margene - Your mittens are beautiful! You've even taken them on the test drive already. Nice pics!

What great mittens! Great color!! I can't believe there's all that snow. I guess I'm just not ready, because I know it's a real possibility in my own back yard right now. Maybe not quite that much, though...

The colour is stunning. The snow is scaring me. I'm so not ready for this...

I love the mittens!! Beautiful color and cute motif!

Beautiful mittens! I love the motif. And the color. And everything about them. :)

Very cute mittens, though I have to say I'm sure glad that it will be a good while before I will need a pair of my own out here! Enjoy the snow!

Those mittens are very nice. I like the motifs...a huge thank you for showing the backside of them, I have always wondered how things look inside when the motifs are done.

I love the mittens, but for now.. you can keep the snow!

those are really terrific mittens! I especially love the little braided tail!

I love the mittens too! But yeah, snow is months away from us (fingers crossed)

You must not taunt me with snow and mittens when it's still 80 degrees here! No. Fair. hee hee Although the mittens (and the snow) are wonderful.

We usually have snow here in Mass by now but it's been in the 70's some afternoons and sunny. We actually had a thunderstorm last night.

Cute mittens!!

I am so NOT ready for snow, but those mittens would sure make it a little more bearable.

What happy, fulfilled mittens you have there! So cheery and energetic :-)

I love the mittens! I dragged out my Folk knitting in Estonia and looked up Roositud. I can't wait to use that technique. If you hadn't posted about it, I would never have noticed it, thank you.

I love the "in the elements" photos of the gloves. You did a great job with them.

Gorgeous mittens, pretty mountains!

Those are such cute mittens, I really like them! And wow, snow! Timpanogos is covered with snow but I've yet to come face to face with the stuff. And now that my hair's short, I'm not sure I'm ready yet. :D

STUPENDOUSly beautiful. I want a pair!

Okay, I'm a little jealous. Of the mitts and the snow. Although I love sunny California, I'll always have a mind of winter. xox, J

Those mittens are great, I can't wait to get started on a pair of my own from her Folk KNitting in Estonia book.

I couldn't find my Folk Knitting book during the Great Cleanup this weekend. I wonder who I loaned it to. Hmmmm...must knit more mittens.

I love looking out my window and seeing the peaks covered with snow already tho! Can't wait for the colder weather this weekend. Yippee!

That photo is just beautiful. I wish I could see that in person! The mittens are wonderful...especially with the snow!

You can keep the snow! I'm enjoying the fall-like conditions as they are here in Denver. I know it will snow, but I'm not ready for it. I missed the first snowfal in October, but I'm sure it will happen again. The mittens are beautiful and I love that technique, although I don't know when I would ever get the chance to take a class from her.

Mittens! The backs look perfect! I need to start some mittens . . .

Your mittens are beautiful! I hope we get to see snow here this year, just not too much. ;)

I get toasty tips just looking at them. I do love the brais and the cast on: I'm looking forward to that post!
