Another Day at SOAR

Friday Anne and I headed back up to Park City.  It had been awhile since Anne had come to Stitch 'n Bitch because of her job and horses. One on one quality time was wonderful!

Our first stop was back to the STR booth (for Cara!). Anne even succumbed to the lure of this fabulous yarn.  I do believe it was just because of the mania, started by Cara, over this yarn that I came home with 5 skeins of my own.

Marblesazuremalachitefflinstonefotmountm_1

Marbles, Azure Malachite, Fred Flintstone, Fire on the Mountain, and Mesa. (Have I lost my marbles?)  How fun is the name Fred Flintstone? It will be mixed with Fire on the Mountain for a Fair Isle sock.

Cheeseygrinwithjanine_1Speaking of Fair Isle, while walking through the market I saw a woman in the most fabulous Fair Isle sweater. I tapped her on the shoulder and told her so.  I then walked away and a few minutes later she came up and asked if I was Margene.  At that point I could see her name tag and realized it was Janine!  We had hoped to meet up and I can't believe I didn't realize before then it was her in the sweater!  It was so fun to meet you Janine.

Fiberystuffforpractice_2 Buffalosilkyarnforsmith_2Greensleeves Spindles tuned my spindle, as the hook was bent (I am a klutz and dropped the poor thing on its head), so I bought some fibery stuff for practice. Are you sick of my promises to spin and then nothing ever happens?  The last purchase of the day was three skeins of a buffalo/silk blend from Elemental Aspects.  Smith loved it (as I knew he would) and thinks it will make a very warm scarf and glove set (perhaps a hat). Adding silk makes the buffalo fiber soft and smooth to pet touch.

Debmenzsarahswettnancyatbooksigning_1 Another wonderful happening was the chance to meet Katherine Alexander (a fabulous knitter/designer), Deb Menz, and Sarah Swett. I told Sarah how she had inspired me the last time we met. She stood before us, years ago, while giving a lecture on weaving and spun on a drop spindle the whole time.  I  also told her that the Kestrel sweater in  Knitting In America had inspired me to make a vest with the motifs. She was thrilled to know I had been inspired by her in both endeavors.  Later when Sarah signed her new book she wrote..."Kestrels and weaving forever". (Sigh.)

Carole and I have joined together in a short Knit Along for Charity.  If you would like to join us and knit a few items over the next two weeks, we'll add your name to the Knit Unto Others blog. You can knit as many items as you like and for any charity you like.  It's only two weeks (until November 30th), but maybe we'll make this an annual event. Count your blessings in each stitch as you knit for those in need. Knit on!

Make sure you check my side bar for the Frapr Map and sign it. I'd love to know where you all live.

So jealous of your SOAR experience! You really made the most of the whole thing and I am glad for you. And buffalo and silk? How cool is that! Here's a toast to the success of Knit Unto Others!

Buffalo and silk sounds wonderful! Toni has buffalo fiber to spin. Just sayin'.

Yea! Knitting something for Smith. Looks like goregous yarn...and fiber too. All of it!

It's so interesting to me how easily mania about a sock yarn can get started. News travels at hyperspeed in blogland. ;)
Buffalo and silk for Smith...nice!

I know for a fact the Azure Malachite knits up beautifully! ;)

sigh... and another envious-but-happy-for-my-friend sigh...

Thanks for the Greensleeves Spindles link. They look really neat, and I love the stories with them.

Hey Margene, you can add me to the knitalong. I'm almost done with my first hat.

Crap! I should've told you to get me one of whatever you got yourself!!! ;-)

Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you! You MADE my day yesterday!

Wow, Margene. Nancy Bush and Sarah Swett in the same week! Knitting royalty! That's so cool.

buffalo yarn.....ooohhhh me want!

I so clearly need more colors of Socks That Rock. NEED them, I tell you.

Your buffalo/silk looks interesting. So much yarn, so little time!

I adore that kestrels pattern, and the vest you made of it. I too hope to knit someting along those liens someday, maybe even of handspun like Sara's. And Janine! And deb Menz! And Karen A! What a harvest of genius knitters. I wish I was there.

Thank you for the advice last night at S'n'B regarding hats, gauge, and glove patterns. What would a girl do without the Sock Goddesses to turn to? (And see here, I'm finally posting a comment so you know I've been to visit.)

I'm quite jealous of your SOAR trips. The fiber gods don't hold such things here in Florida, I guess they think humidity, hurricanes and wool are a bad combination.

Oh those sock skeins are wonderful, I love the name fRed Flinstone, was there a Wilma and Betty and Barney too. Wouldn't that be cute, you could knit the whole Flinstone gang.

How fun.........what a great better pal you are! My experiences with Secret Pal for the most part have not been good at all, so I have hesitated to join again. Better paling it sounds like fun!

I love the buffalo and silk. It sounds wonderful. You really did some damage there, must have been fun.

Buffalo and silk? mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! I'm loving all the STR yarn. The colors are phenomenal. Sounds like you had a wonderful time!

P0rn! p0rn! we love yarn p0rn!

I'm salivating over the socks that rock. Such great colors. I absolutely adore the Mesa! Yum! And Smith will enjoy the fiber, so you must spin it, you know!
