Road Trip!
Let’s take a road trip. For now this is only a dream but, wouldn't it be wonderful to drive around this grand land of ours and visit everyone you know along the way? Since this is a dream gas will be 25 cents a gallon (the price we paid when I was a teenager).
First I'll drive to Boise, Idaho and meet up with Kim and my dear pal Judy...we'll have a marvelous time! Then it is over the mountains to Seattle and meet up with Lorette. I'll also spend time with my brother (and his new baby) before heading down into the Sierra Nevada's to meet Birdsong. She'll show me her unique landscape and we'll find how much more we have in common.
The next stop would be the SF Bay area where I’ll meet Nathania, Julia, Rachael, and Celia and many more of you, too. It's so hard to remember where everyone lives (if I ever knew). Then I’ll head to LA and visit with La and I know there are more of you in that area, too. As I go I’ll be shopping in every yarn shop I find and communing with the yarn and other knitters. Oh and there will be great restaurants along the way, too. If anyone wants to come along, just let me know. We can form a caravan!
Now there must be some of you in AZ, (tell me who I should meet up with, please). I have family to visit in AZ , too and then it's on to NM. I must meet with Nanette so that she can help with stranded knitting on small projects. Next will be TX and I’ll spend some time with Julia, visit Grayce on her sheep farm and see Shelby's new baby.
Next stop will be GA and a visit to Jen's new alpaca farm and then over to FL and a chance to visit Debi and Carolyn. If I'm forgetting anyone along the way it is because I'm unsure where everyone lives, so give me a shout and we'll stop and see you. Can you dig how fun this will be?
Next it’s up the coast to DC to visit with Wendy and Ann and I’m sure there are many more of you around that part of our country, too. Should I go from there to PA and see Christy or head right up to NE and catch her on the way back? What's the best route?
I've never been to NYC, so it will be very exciting to see it and meet up with many of the coolest bloggers. First I must see Katy, Cassie and Cara (you’ll come over from NJ, right?). There are so many of you here, but Juno, Regina, Cari and Ann are must meets. Who else? Please speak up as I want to meet as many of you as I can. NYC must be second only to MA as a blogger mecca.
Speaking of MA, that’s where I’ll head next to visit Claudia, Laurie, Sandy and a dozen others (actually I’m not sure where in the NE area some of you live) but I know TeresaC, Marcia, Julia, Kim, Judy and Norma are nearby. I must make a trip up into Maine and see Amy and her new baby and Liz on her farm. And since I’m so near I’ll run up and visit Lee Ann in Canada, too. It would be nice to have someone share the driving as I'd like to get more knitting done on the trip.
Tell me the best way to get to Chicago from the NE (and who to meet along the way) because I want to see Lynette (I must see Monica while in CA, it appears) and Bonne Marie. Then I'll run up to MI and visit Heidi. And if the Harlot isn't on tour I might just run over to Toronto for a visit, too.
Then it's on to MN to see Sara* and WI for a visit with Vicki. I’m unsure where to head next, but it be a good idea to take time to see my sister in Omaha. Then I'll head over to CO and see Cathy, Snow and Kristi. Maybe by then it will be time for Estes Park Wool Market again.
Let’s plan this trip together and have meet ups; large, fun, knitterly meet ups. Are you ready to pack!? I am.
Check our Give A Little blog as we're giving away prizes! Thank you to eveyone who has dontaed both money and thank you gifts.

What a great idea. Don't forget to stop and see me in PA as you're heading out of D.C. on your way to NE.

The weather isn't so hot today in NY...but I look forward to a visit from you--for real!

If it's easier for you, I can meet up with you in DC or NYC since either is just a train ride away from Philly!
Thanks for the morning treat. I just loved imagining this trip. I'll think about it in my 6 hour training at work today (UGH)!

How fun!! Isn't it wonderful the way blogging has made our world a smaller and friendlier place!
Posted by:Kim | September 16, 2005 at 06:00 AM
I'm here. When you coming? (Please, please come!) I was telling my sister about you last night. Were your ears ringing?
Posted by:Cara | September 16, 2005 at 06:49 AM
I'll help drive! I can ride my bicycle to SLC and meet up with you there! But, you should still come to MN and see the trees and the lakes ... The North Shore is beautiful in June.

Margene Let me get my guest quarters finished above the barn before you come. You could come during lambing season and help. I remember when gas was 25 cents a gal!! How fun. Grayce

Hello
I started Moonlight a couple of days before you mentioned it. I wanted to advise you, that when you begin the arm decreases, count your stitches compulsively! It gets a bit confusing if you are not particularly paying attention, and you can easily find you have too many stitches....
It is shaping up beautifully, and I am looking forward to finishing it...
Cheers

Smith better come too. That all could take you a long, long time.

Don't forget me here in the Kansas City area - center of the country. I don't have a blog but I read you every day - hey, if you want, I could drive to Chicago and meet you there. Chelle

Between NYC to MA, you can stop in here for a cuppa tea and a bunny snuggle if you like. I'd love to show you my silk/angora yarn and the scarves I've made from some of that.
Posted by:Chris | September 16, 2005 at 07:52 AM
We'll await your arrival patiently. I have a very comfy guest room.
Posted by:regina | September 16, 2005 at 07:56 AM
When you get here, I'll hop in and help with the driving. Don't forget the extra duffle bag for all the yarn you will add to your stash along the way! I so wish we could do it....

I'm packed! Come here before it gets too cold and snowy -- the ice storms are a bitch to drive on. That black ice will get you every time - it looks all innocent, like water, but it puts you OFF THE ROAD. I'll share with the driving!
Posted by:Norma | September 16, 2005 at 08:14 AM
I love the idea! I can be packed in no time. I'd say pick me up on the way, but I'd miss half the country. But, I think we're going to need a Greyhound. Bus. We need a map and travel guide with the knitblog stops notated. and the yarn shops. and the knitting-friendly eating spots. I haven't done a road trip in years. I can't wait.
Posted by:Julia | September 16, 2005 at 08:37 AM
There's a wide open space in Iowa there, Margene. :) Stop by and visit us at our weekly knit-together!
Posted by:Liz | September 16, 2005 at 08:42 AM
Maybe you could rent the Yarn Bus for this one...
Posted by:Colleen | September 16, 2005 at 08:49 AM
Your trip sounds sooo fun (and exhausting!) The guest room ought to be finished by the time you get here. :)

ROAD TRIP!!!! Oh, if only...But really, if you're ever in the neighborhood of Springfield, MO (home of BASS PRO SHOPS) and purtin'ere BRANSON, MO, YA'LL COME SEE US!!! Autumn in the OZARKS is a beautiful thing. There's always something going on here. Don't miss it!;D
Posted by:Lana | September 16, 2005 at 09:08 AM
Don't forget to check in with me in DC too ;)
Posted by:Lolly | September 16, 2005 at 09:15 AM
Now wait. Don't forget about Cincinnati! Beth and I are both here, and we would be such lovely hostesses...and there are one or two (Or three, or four) wonderful yarn shops that we could show to you! Yes, Cincinnati should be a must-stop location on your tour. ;)
What a nice thought. :)

No no Margene, dear....make a pit stop in Portland, Oregon, between SEattle and the bay area. I'll drive up and join you (this is a dream after all).
Posted by:Lisa in Oregon | September 16, 2005 at 09:38 AM
From Boston you can hop on the Mass Pike (I-90) and head west to Chicago. Easy-peasy. And Webs is just a small detour off the Pike.
Posted by:Kat | September 16, 2005 at 09:43 AM
Aren't I invited?? I'm in NJ, too!
Posted by:--Deb | September 16, 2005 at 09:51 AM
Ok, I'll make sure I invite over Monica and the other eleventy-hundred knitbloggers in my area for a BBQ. Laurie, aka Crazy Aunt Purl, can bring the "ground" beef.
Hey if you time it right, you can first catch me in CA, and then again in FL, but that means your road trip won't happen for a couple of years.
What fun that would be, huh?
Posted by:La | September 16, 2005 at 10:04 AM
OK, so there's no yarn stores here or anything, but I am not about to let you skip Lexington, VA! (Come for the blue ridge. Oh, and of course, the chocolate.)
Posted by:Kim/Chef Messy | September 16, 2005 at 10:04 AM
Sounds like a fun -- and long -- road trip. I doubt the gas would be your biggest expense, more likely to be all the yarn you'd buy along the way!
Posted by:nona | September 16, 2005 at 10:08 AM
That makes two of us in the Kansas City area that read your blog everyday, so you must stop here.
We have some wonderful local yarn stores and can always nip over to Lawrence and visit the Yarn Barn.
Posted by:Colleen | September 16, 2005 at 10:21 AM
I'm up for that trip - SHOTGUN! I'm great at navigating and reading maps. I did a x-country trip once from CA to ME but I didn't have nearly as many people to stop and see along the way.
Posted by:Amy Boogie | September 16, 2005 at 10:40 AM
But see you totally missed the middle of the country, I'm sure there's many in Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, Kansas. I'm in St. Louis myself, and we have lovely yarn stores, and sheep farms, and the good old Mississippi River. Tell you what I'd better come along, I'm an excellent navigator. Just ask my friends I went to Ireland with last year, I took them all around that country and rarely even looked at the map.
Posted by:Rebekah | September 16, 2005 at 10:47 AM
So I'm reading, tallying the possible passengers picked up along the way (all aboard!), the suggestion about a bus -- and a Knitblogger Bus would be so cool, maybe even a motorhome -- but I'm thinking it would be more like a CONVOY, baby! Ten-4?
So much fun it would be! Whenever someone mentions a place these days -- hey, there'd have to be a European tour, too -- I think bloggers! It's one of the coolest things about blogging -- because of it, I've "met" people all over the world and right in my own back yard.
Thanks for the fun trip, Margene!
Posted by:Vicki | September 16, 2005 at 10:56 AM
I'm just south of Seattle--can I come too? And I'm right on the way to Portland, as Lisa in Oregon suggested. And in Portland, we could show Powell's, a book store so huge you need a map (literally) as well as the yarn shops.
Posted by:Judy H. | September 16, 2005 at 11:00 AM
It's a long way from GA to DC, so please plan a stop in Virginia, Margene. A river runs through this capital city and we've got some swell LYSs ~ and knitters!
Posted by:Maggi | September 16, 2005 at 11:06 AM
I would love it! I definitely would have met up with you if we'd been in Moab at the same time this year. (By the way, if you're there again, check out Back of Beyond - it's a wonderful book store.) When you visit me, it will be with La however, because although my job is SF based, I'm down in SoCal for my daily living. SF is beautiful, but LA has the weather!
Posted by:Julia | September 16, 2005 at 11:09 AM
Cool post and what a great idea! A blogger's road trip, I love it. I can fit 7 total in my Suburban so count me in. And when you come to Massachusetts you can pick me up!!
Posted by:Carole | September 16, 2005 at 11:25 AM
I think we'll need a double-decker bus less than half-way through the trip. Just think, all the knitters you can imagine, powering our way across the country!
Posted by:Laurie | September 16, 2005 at 11:39 AM
What a totally delightful idea! Now, think of some way to support yourself on this epic, such as being the roving knitting reporter, and we will all be awaiting your arrival. Have a great fall weekend.
Posted by:Birdsong | September 16, 2005 at 11:45 AM
Hmmm - when you're in Seattle why don't you run up to Canada and come see the knitbrarian and myself in Vancouver?
Posted by:Angela | September 16, 2005 at 11:52 AM
While you're on your way through Virginia (come on up I-81) be sure to stop by Salem (I'm right off the interstate). I have plenty of space and will fill you full of yummy food!

What the heck, while you're at it, why not fly over here to Europe, too? You can come visit me in Germany, and meet up with knitters in other countries, too. Just think about all of the wonderful sock yarn here in Germany. The Opal factory beckons...
Posted by:Rachel | September 16, 2005 at 12:01 PM
I'm with Vicki -- we've got us a convoy! Wouldn't that be fun?
Thanks for such a fun blog entry today!!!

I gotta driveway with all ya'll's name on it!
Caroline in Miami
Posted by:caroline | September 16, 2005 at 01:52 PM
I'll be glad to share some of the driving with you. I've got the covertible. We could be the next Thelma and Louise (without that Grand Canyon ending, though.)
Who will make us Knitting World Tour t-shirts?
Posted by:Snow | September 16, 2005 at 02:09 PM
I'm with Rachel. Germany it is! Who's in?
Posted by:susan | September 16, 2005 at 03:12 PM
When you come to MN you can come visit me, too!
Posted by:melissa | September 16, 2005 at 03:22 PM
While you are visiting Jen in Georgia, swing down to Atlanta and see me. LOTS of good yarn shops around here, too.
Posted by:Jane | September 16, 2005 at 04:03 PM
Oh you do have to stop by Portland on your way down from Seattle. We can have a big blogger pizza party at my new restaurant. With knitting for dessert!
Posted by:Deb | September 16, 2005 at 09:06 PM
I live 20 miles west of Heidi in Michigan, so please add me to the list.
Or maybe you could visit me in Idaho on one of my trips to visit my new granddaughter. Coeur d'Alene is way north of Boise, though. Good thing that your fantasy gas is cheap.
