It Could Be Worse
Last night we enjoyed the play Romeo and Juliet. Today we had a nice breakfast, had a pedicure (Camille and I) and then bought tickets for next years plays. It was still early in the day and we decided to take a quick jaunt to Kolob Canyon for the Flower Basket Photo shoot. You will enjoy the pictures as soon as we get home and can download them. We left the park about 2:30 and headed up the freeway. Only 100 yds from the entrance the car exploded with a loud noise and smoke everywhere. Smith adeptly pulled over the side of the road and I immediately pulled out my AAA card and called for help. It had to be 105+. As it turns out the engine had thrown a rod. We bought the car used last October so who knows... Not sure as yet if it is worth fixing or needs to be replaced.
Things turn out ok, however. We had a great tow truck driver and he knew who could fix it. We originally thought it was the transmission, but this place can do the engine if we decide to go that way. We didn't have to spend more than 40 minutes in the desert, the clouds came to protect us from the sun, and we had water. Camille and Diane drove down separately and they have a van. It will get everyone home (including the dogs).
Tonight we see Camelot. We'll see people in a much worse predicament than ours. Tomorrow night Mid-Summers Nights Dream. Life is good.

Years ago, on a car trip from California to Kansas, our Suburban broke down right inside the Grand Canyon Park grounds. Nothing quite so scary as your adventure, and actually, I was mentally fist-pumping and yelling "Yes, thank you God" because hubby wanted to go straight on through wtihout stopping at the GC, if you can believe. We got to spend almost the whole day, so sometimes car breakdowns are GOOD! Glad you're okay..hope the car isn't too bad.

I read the title and immediately assumed the FBS had already been snatched.
Hope the car issues turn out OK. I know how stressful they can be. Good to finish up with a comedy. :)

I just love AAA...money well spent. Had to use them on the way home from seeing the Yarn Harlot (flat tire)...AAA was awesome. Glad you are enjoying yourself and not letting a little car trouble slow you down :) Stay cool and enjoy all the culture. Looking forward to seeing the shawl photos.

Must be in the air. I heard my brakes this week. Too late to get only new pads. Four new rotors. Man, they cost alot. Add the two bald tires (oops) and the coolant sensor, well, the bonus Pete got this week that was supposed to pay off a bill fixed my car. And the rest of it will have to cover his medical bills because he decided that he was young and broke or badly sprained an ankle while camping and we are in the two week break in insurance coverage because he just changed jobs. Great.
BUT-Tom Jones rocked my world this night. I can't even be upset about the rest. He is one HOT Welshman!

Funny how things always seem to work themselves out. Enjoy the plays and your weekend.

What a wonderful positive attitude. But that does suck about the car. Enjoy Camelot though. And drive home safe. I can't wait to see FBS pics!

What is it with cars..? I had a multi-thousand dollar repair last week, too. Man, that's getting spanked! Glad you weren't stranded long inthe heat. The alternative: stay home. Right..

Thank goodness FBS is okay!! Cars -- ick. With the new-car-employee-pricing frenzy going on, used cars ought to be a dime a dozen soon...
Oh, I love Camelot. Have a great time!

Heehee, I can't stop thinking about Teresa C. and "Tom and his Jones" as one comedian called it. Glad you're enjoying the Shakespeare, and sorry about the damn car. It is true -- if it ain't one thing, it's another!

Well, as much fun as you can have with a broken car, I mean!

I am seriously glad you are okay. The desert in July/August is nothing to fool around with. Safe trip home and glad you are enjoying the Bard.

So we're driving in the middle of no where (On rt 46 near SLO if anyone's interested) and I'm driving and it's two lanes and it's freaking HOT outside - at least 105 - and I'm totally having a panic attack that we're going to die out here, alone, with turkey buzzards yelping about and G's got the video camera going oohing and ahhing - "There's NOTHING out here. NOTHING!"
So glad you could get it all fixed quick. Looking forward to the FBS pictures!

You are a zen master indeed to take it all so calmly. But cellphones and AAA cards do make auto life marginally less stressful. Glad you moved on without missing a beat. Life can be good in Camelot.
