Mountain Spendor at Silver Lake
When there are wild fires in California, Arizona and/or Southern Utah, Salt Lake City sees, feels and breaths the smoke. This is what the view was from my place Sunday morning. So, what did we do? Go up...higher than the smoke! We hadn't been to our favorite place since early in the month and we knew the mountains would be beautiful. It was rather chilly (barely over 60) so we sat inside for breakfast and then headed up to see how the snow was melting at Silver Lake. What a lovely surprise to see that all the snow was off the boardwalk, the lake and most of the surrounding area. Only the peaks of Brighton Ski Resort still had snow.

The sky was clear of smoke, had only one little cloud and was as blue as can be. Many people were there enjoying the area by walking around the boardwalk or fishing on the lake. Only a few weeks ago we had seen skiers enjoying the solidly frozen lake!
We enjoyed our walk around the lake so much that we lost track of time and ended up missing our met up with Mim at the Salt Lake Arts Festival. Sorry Mim! Another opportunity missed because we try to pack too much into a day. At least she will be at Stitch 'n Bitch on Tuesday and Susan will be back from Italy, too!
The weather has been windy (therefore, smoky) but cool and comfortable, with late July style, afternoon thunderstorms. In other words...no complaints. Because I took a step back from blogging for a few days all organizational obligations were met (I'M FREE!). I just might be able to deal with my family on Thursday if the week goes well. The boss returns to work today, and if he learned anything this week, let's hope that it is he needs to be a boss and lead; not play, play and play some more. The best part of the last few days was I found time to knit. Isn't this a past time which becomes so much a part of our psyche's that we can't survive without it? Thank you, for your encouragement, support and friendship, everyone. Life is good.
The Sockotta Socks are ready to wear. (Don't you just love the rock infused with 'fools gold'? )

Who needs fools gold, your socks are priceless anyway! I love that colourway and am now going to spend a few minutes trying to find it on a UK site somewhere instead of vacuuming the house. Makes much more sense.

Gorgeous summery socks, Margene!

I've always been a beach person (spent the first 30 years of life on islands) but having followed your blog for a while now, I'm beginning to appreciate mountains. Thanks, Margene.

very pretty. I too, am enjoying the new sockotta yarn. Looks like the heat is missing you for now.

Love the socks. Did you start them after I left??

I myself took a blogging break and it felt good! The mountains are beautiful - the air looks so clear. It's hot, muggy and hazy here - a blue sky like that would be a welcome relief.
Socks are beautiful. Package in the mail today.

Pretty socks. I would like to knit some of the Sockotta in the stash. And the lace peeking through looks very pretty.

I envy your cooler weather. Fast, beautiful socks, too. Glad to hear you have rejuvenated, and can start the week with a smile.

I love that sock. Those colors are almost enough to get me to knit with sockotta again.

I admired the socks in person - now I admire the pose and the background ... but you know me and rocks... :-)

Beautiful lake pics and nice socks, I like the colors.

Love the colors in those socks. Very nice. And of course love the nature pictures, always a pleasure to see.

Oddly, I can see the lace quite clearly when I never, ever noticed it in any of the photos of the socks in progress. I like them next to the fools' gold, too, and I think that would be a great name for the socks, unless you've given them a better one.

No worries! And the smoke thing explains alot. We came into the SL valley and I was like "Woah... why can't we see the mountains!" It was almost like the nasty inversions in Cache Valley in the winter. Icky. Glad you got to "rise above it" so to speak...
See you tomorrow!

Mmmmmmmm love the socks. Do you have the urge to cast on for a few more? Hee!

Those socks are a very pretty color combination.

I can certainly understand losing track of time -- beautiful! And very cute socks, too. ; )

I was telling someone the other day how SLC would fill with smoke from far away fires. . .i don't miss that!
Miss you, though - it was wonderful to see you in Estes at the Wool Festival. Picked up right where we left off.
Love, julie

It's so foreign to me that you can just drive up in elevation and get a different, view/atmosphere/everything. I'm such a flatlander!
Your sockotta socks are beautiful - one of these days I'll do a Nancy Bush pattern. Can't wait for the new book, too!

Love the socks on the rocks! The lace detailing is very pretty.
Posted by: nona | June 28, 2005 at 10:22 AM
Super pattern! Perfectly executed! Did you see that Nancy Bush has a new book coming out about vintage sock patterns? Are we excited or what?

Great socks, and an excellent choice of colorway... I guess my husband must be down where the smoke is coming from. He left early Tuesday morning for the Cave Creek complex fire in northern Arizona. Hope you stay safe this summer, and can continue to hike around your lovely lake regularly. Thanks for sharing the views.
