Sunday With Friends (and Socks!)

Susan made the observation yesterday that socks like to get out and about.  "I suppose it's just to make up for the fact that when they are done they're going to be on our feet and covered by shoes, so they won't get much exposure to all the places we will travel while wearing them."  What a perfect explaination to the sock vacations seen all over Blogland.  The socks I've dubbed Summer Peaches made the rounds with us this weekend.

Plans were made earlier in the week to meet with Camille, her son Zach and his darling family, Chantel and Aspen.  We had breakfast at...well, you know where.  It was  sprinkling rain just a little so we opted to sit inside.  We missed the chance to convene with the hummers, but had  a delightful breakfast nonetheless.

ThegangwhileatbrightonAfter our lovely repast, and lots of chat, we headed up to the ghost town (this time of year) of Brighton.  ShovelingawaythegangSilver Lake was still frozen but you could see it was beginning to melt.  The boardwalk is mostly covered with snow but we walked out as far as we could.  Here is the gang with Camille holding the sock (it blends right in with her pink outfit) and Aspen holding the ball of yarn.  It was warm despite the lack of sun.  We long for the day we'll be able to walk all the way around the boardwalk and see the lake in all it's splendor (and blue sky, too.)
The ground squirrels were in abundance and chattered at us as we walked by.  Aspen had fun watching them  and they  watched her, too.    Maybe we were bothering them while they scurried around looking for the spring seeds and nuts. The big snow removing equipment was nearby and we climbed into the shovel just for a picture.  Aspen was not quite sure we belonged there.

Camille and family headed out before we did and were about half a mile ahead of us. They caught two moose walk across the road right in front of the car and then head up the mountain.  How cool is that!?

SocksinthesunatredbutteI've been parsing the weekend for you. It is because Sunday afternoon we headed Red Butte Garden.  There are so many pictures of flowers (and socks!) that I had to save them for a day all their own.  If you return tomorrow you will see an extravaganza of flowers and the ever evolving gardens.
The socks were knit in near monogamy over the weekend. They fit the bill of being small, portable, and good company while we enjoyed the sights around the area.  Just to whet your appetite here is the sock (and the beginnings of the second) lounging in flowers at the entry to the gardens.  It was a lovely weekend, indeed.

Did you miss the last Sockapalooza?  You can join Sockapal2za!  Hurray as Alison will cap it at 200 and you wouldn't want to miss out on loads of fun.  You knit a sock for someone and receive a sock from someone else. It's the coolest thing going.

What a fabulous weekend! I love the moose. Even more, I LOVE the scale you provided for the snow moving equipment. They aren't that big in New England, and our snow is heavier. Yeahyeahyeah, we don't get four feet at a whack. But still.

The worm tree is almost there for bloom in the garden. Pix in the next few days. Can't wait to see your flowers tomorrow.

That really is a beautiful colourway in amongst those flowers. Great pictures of mooses, moosi, moose, beats cows anyday. I must live under a rock as I've missed the Sockapal2za but I'm sure there will be a 3,4,5,6.....!

Looks like fun. And love the moose shot. I didn't sign up for the Sockapalooza...I don't feel disciplined enough to do it. :(

Great pics! I saw a moose once on the side of the road at Yellowstone and was completely amazed at how BIG it was!

Have a good one, Margene :)

Love the moose (meese?) and the sock reclining in a bed of flowers (cinquefoil, perhaps?). I signed up for sockapal2za yesterday.... I'm amazed at how quickly it filled up!

What wonderful pictures and with wonderful friends. I'm glad you had an nice weekend and that the sock did too...and the second sock is started, much better than I'm doing. My poor orphan socks. I'm not worthy of a sockapalooza right now, but it sounds like great fun!

I know you're going to get me to knit socks someday; I just KNOW it! :)

Love that pic of you guys in the giant scoop! And that's one purty sock!

I like the moose. ;-)

It's so odd to see snow in one picture and riotous flowers in the next. What a crazy place Utah must be. :-)

Loved the moose! I always hope to spot one when we go to Maine, but no dice so far.

I love the post Margene. We had a great time. I can't wait to go up again when the snow is melted!

What a delightful weekend, Margene! I do love Summer Peaches, if that is the one photographed with the flowers! Just lovely!

Wow. Totally missed Sockapal2za, too. But I will await the Red Butte Garden & sock pictures with great anticipation.

Love the meese!

durn, missed out on socks! your peaches are lovely. lucky you're projects are openly accepted. my whole family lets out a groan everytime i reach into "the bag" (my harmless little canvas tote). they just don't get it!

Socks do seem to have a lot of fun around the world. My socks are going to see a baby penguin at the St. Louis Zoo, Sunday, maybe they'll have to be photographed together.

Your site is so soothing to the mind and usually my first stop in the morning. Sandals and snow, what a concept!

Moose and snow removal equipment...yep, spring is in the air ;-)))

Montréal has snow removal equipment on steroids, too. I'm from New Hampshire originally, and I've still never seen anything like it. Moose, on the other hand...I've known a few, been chased by a few, luckily didn't marry any of 'em...

Bisoux, and I'll be checking back tomorrow for my Flower Fix :-)

Well, I must say, I doubt there are many vacationing socks that have seen moose recently. Your vacationing socks are indeed unique.
