Rain, Rain...
We had a beautiful day on Tuesday, but it was raining again by Wednesday afternoon. At first they said the amount of rain we have had so far was 'normal' and we were just used to 7 years of drought. You can forget in 7 long short years what normal is, I guess. Now they have changed their tune and admit that our precipitation is actually about 130% (or more) this April. But, back to Tuesday's partly sunny day, the day the lilacs started to bloom. Aren't they beautiful!? (Today they may be pounded flat from the rain we had yesterday!)
Trees and flowers are/were at their bloomin' peak. It was gorgeous around here. Poor sad things may have drowned by now. Ooo, aaah...spring was everywhere as I walked around with my camera in hand. I could fill this post with so many flowers, like forget me not's, irises, tulips, pansies and much, much more. You, most likely, have the same lovely flowers happening in your yard or neighborhood.
The walk reminded me of the bright and beautiful yarn that arrived from Judy. I bought 3 skeins of Peony, but had second thoughts, so I ordered the rest of the skeins. I would like to make myself a very large wrap....someday (soon). Any ideas of a large beautiful wrap that takes 1200 yards? And you must check out Judy's new colors! Oh my, more gorgeous yarn (just look at that Daffodil!!)
The one constant thing about spring is that it is never the same day to day or even minute to minute. The thunderstorms were incredible yesterday afternoon, the amount of rain was a little scary to contemplate. On my drive home there was a short distance where I had to drive through 3" of hail! Flooding has started north of Salt Lake in the Brigham City area, 1.5 hours away. We may still need an ark. The most concern is for area's in the Southern part of the State (where snowpack is 200%) and up north (too much rain). If rain continues in our area it could cause some problems with our mountain streams. The Utah Grrls should all be out of danger as far as I know. Unsettled weather may be the norm this time of year...sorta like a work in progress. Spring is a WIP, summer is is the FO.
I'm off to buy a rubber raft...have a good weekend!

I wish, I wish....
this was a smell-o-blog! LILACS!! I can't wait! I wish someone would come up with a summer long blooming variety!

Thank you so much for the picture of the bloomin' lilacs. I haven't seen them in decades, ever since we've lived in Louisiana. It's just too hot for them here. Folks point to Ligustrum as a Lilac "substitute", but I'm here to tell you they STINK!
Ah, such beauty. Must knit something in lavender tones!

Pretty spring pics from your corner of the world... love the yarn too! Have a good weekend, Margene. Love the Spring is a WIP comment... I will keep that with me today :)

Oh my gosh, lilacs are my favorite, and we don't have them down here. Seeing them brings back all kinds of childhood memories of visiting my grandparents. Beautiful!

Those pictures are wonderful. Your spring is ahead of ours. S'funny, I did the same thing with Judy yarn. Ordered three skeins, then changed it to all six. Can you make LaceLeaf shawl as a wrap?

You seem to have sent some of that rain in our direction. The radar's solid green in NC. Could you take it back, please? It's not that I don't appreciate it, but, well, um, I guess I don't appreciate it. The lilacs are lovely, as is the Peony yarn. Perfect spring color.

About seven years of drought: we had the same, starting the year my son was born. When it started raining again, he would put on his boots (which we had bought for stream walking while camping) and go stand outside in wonder. He still loves the rain!

Margene, your spring photos are lovely! My lilacs started blooming yesterday too! lavendar and white. Just lovely.
I had a thought about your peony yarn. Perhaps the Kimono SHawl from Folk Shawls? It's a lovely shawl and seems pretty big. I think it would look amazing in that pink yarn of yours! :)

Oh lilacs - how I miss the smell of lilacs! I just love spring!!! I hope that you have a very slow thaw so that you won't need that ark.

What ever you do with the Peony will be lovely, I can't wait to see!

Such beautiful photos, as usual, Margene. I echo what Judy says: whatever you do with the peony will be stunning. I have my eye on several of her colors. When she comes to VT for the summer, I'm sure I'll get to see them in person and make my choice from there. They are to die for.

Luckily I don't live in the lowlands of the valley, but my boss lives right by the Blacksmith Fork River and it's overflowing it's banks by about 1.5 feet right now near his house. But his house is on a bit of a rise from the river, so they're ok.
If you start to miss your lilacs, our won't bloom for another few weeks, so you could come up and extend your lilac season :)

Oh my oh my... lilacs, my very favorite harbinger of spring! I am *terribly* envious of you. I used to walk past an enormous stand of lilacs twice a day, but last year we moved, and I haven't found a new spot for my lilac fix yet. Alas!

Lovely lilacs. They are my favorite spring flower.

I *wish* my world looked like the pictures you posted. It's still grey here (and rainy), so I appreciate the shots of spring. Lilacs are my favorite too...we have a small one which probably won't bloom for a couple of years, but everyone else's around here don't flower until the beginning of June.

I want thunder storms!!! (We're only getting rain, mostly). I like your phrase "pounded flat", I don't know why, I just did. It sounds really funny when referring to flowers. Ha ha ha ha.

Look at all those beautiful flowers! The air must smell wonderful what with the rain and spring and lilacs. I should get outside today. Thanks for the reminder!

I love it when I'm out for a walk and smell the lilacs on the breeze before I see them!
Did you see my ominous sky? It didn't produce anything, but sure was threatening! I hope you won't need that rubber raft.

I love lilacs... mine are budding, but not blooming yet....

I love the scent of lilacs, but I've been finding that lately they make me sneeze something terrible. I love that everything is starting to bloom finally.

Man, spring is just bustin' out all over there! That really is pretty Peony yarn - but you are better at picking lace patterns. Have fun with it.

All beautiful, Margene! a real lift to the spirit. If it has to rain, how about a nice Silver Fork Lodge fireplace and a lap full of yarn?
Hugs to you and Smith and have a great weekend

I have heard that the amount of snow that we got last year was normal...and that we have just had about 6 years of drought.... 5 feet of snow on the ground in California is a little much I say :-)
We had some pretty bad thunderstorms here yesterday too. But I love them. I hate the summer when all we have is sunshine every day...some clouds and rain once in a while would be nice!
Your pictures of the blooms are just beautiful!

Rain, rain go away! Lovely yarn Margene. Judy's colors are gorgeous...thanks for sharing them with us. And fab pics. I hope you and Smith have a sun and fun filled weekend.

There are "wild" tulips in the empty lot behind my house! Ah, it is good to be home! It is also good to live on a mountainside -- no raft needed yet! Maybe I should get to work on an ark? Except we'll have to take the yarn in two by two...

Anyone who claims this rain is normal hasn't visited us up here in Logan! You should see the lovely river that used to be the road through Nibley! Completely crazy! Hope your flowers are surviving!

I live in the deserty part of the valley. Don't hold back on the flower pics.

Thank you for the lilac fix! They don't grow well in Los Angeles and I miss them from childhood times in North Dakota. I suppose you have peonies too??

thank you thank you thank you! I too was transported back to my childhood by the lilacs. We had a lilac "tree" beside the kitchen window when I was young. I was so day dreamy after reading your post that I almost bought up all that purpley-Inky goodness! Ack! I will never knit up all this stash as is!!

I'm holding on for our lilacs. Thanks for lending me yours.
