Blog Misdemeanor
I’m changing tactics because of the lost post. You’ll have to come back tomorrow for the most excellent post about my Lara. Today I’m committing a blog Paw Foo* and showing the sock that everyone else has been knitting, Making Waves. They are finished! They turned out pretty well even though the pattern had to be finagled to get it to fit my foot. I cast on 72 stitches and increased to 80 after the rib, then decreased to 72 again in the gusset. Whitewater is one of the prettiest Lorna’s Laces colors and was entertaining to knit.
On Friday we will be able to start the next Six Sock the Fluted Banister (adult size). I have a pink colorway of Opal that is bright and different so should also be fun to knit. The pattern is quick to learn and looks great. We have had the toddler and child size patterns for the last two weeks so we could knit for CIC. One sock a day was very easy to do and I have 4 darling socks ready to go.

This is the time of year we think of those who have so little. Norma has started a campaign to knit Thrum Mittens for the homeless. Wendy has a Kitty Bed Along and Susan is always advocating socks for CIC. Pick a charity for your knitted items and do as much as you can. Sally Melville says to have four projects going…one that is portable (socks and gloves), something complicated for you (Lotus), something easy (Lara), and something for charity. Great advice!
If you have a favorite charity you might leave a comment here so others can find out more.
*My dear friend, the late, great Bonnie K. had a way with words. She was always getting things upside down and backwards. We would laugh along with her when she committed such errors as “like a boat out of hell” or Paw Foo instead of Faux Pas.

Thanks for the plug for CIC. The socks you knit are so cute. They've joined mine in the box that I'm sending after the Six Sox contest. If anyone is reading this comment and wants to knit socks for CIC AND possibly win a skein of Mountain Colors Weaver's Wool, just join the Six Sox Knitalong http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Six_Sox_Knitalong/
and start knitting! You have until October 8th.

Oh how I love malapropisms! My great-grandmother learned English after she came over here from Sicily and had a million of em. Like, "park your car next to the hydrangia".... and (when she found out my mom as an "old" lady was pregnant at 29 with me), she hoped I wouldn't be a "Magnolia" idiot. If she only knew....20 years of living in Virginia will do that to a person. :)

I love it when little language goofs make it into regular use. It's kind of like having your own private club. My friend Leah and I used to remind each other to take our Choir Holder Foam in 8th grade when we shared a locker. My little brother Sam had a ton of them. To this day we still sing him Happy Birthme and tell him to bemember things. Now back to knitting my kitty bed for Petfinder!

Some malaprops actually make some sense. . . my grandmother used to go to the "genealogist" to get Pap smears!

I have a friend, and we share a love of Mexican food. She always brings down the house with her innocent statement of, "Hold the Guatemalie, please."

Wow! I am not into knitting socks, but I might have to rethink that because those socks are soooo cute. I NEED to buy some of the yarn.

The Whitewater Lorna's Laces turned out beautifully! You are so adept at customizing patterns for your own needs. Very cool.

Margene - it is so nice of you to highlight these charitable endearvors! You inspire me to join in!

Socks look fab and I didn't know you were knitting Lara...where have I been? I was considering that as well but have been knitting a little more for myself than I am accustomed to. Although, my sister did steal my poncho. As I am a bit tone deaf, I always mispronounce things I haven't heard properly in the first place. One of my favorite sayings with Gracie was "Kick the button".

Wow, those are some well-adorned tootsies! I am slowly plugging along on my first pair of socks in between projects. Your many socks have inspired me to hurry up already so my feet can be as decked out as yours!

Yeah on the socks! I made a pair out of that same Opal colorway. I love them! I hope that your pair is as much fun.
I've really slowed down on sock knitting, maybe it's time to pick up the pace again. I'm going to try to finish a few unfinished pairs in the near future. ...and while I'm at it I may knit some for CIC as well! Thanks for the inspiration.

Your socks are pretty ! The colour of Lorna's lace sock yarn is always gorgerous. I enjoy working with their yarn very much too !

The old Getcrafty had a scarf project they were doing for homeless chelters, but I don't know what's happened to it since the site changed.
My favorite charitable knitting project, aside of course from the current CIC socks, is leper bandages. They are the most mindless knitting, 3 inches wide and a few feet long. I'll have to post the link on my blog when I get home.
