Even More Fickle
The Flower Basket Shawl from the Fall 2004 issue of Interweave Knits is one more item in this fickle knitters basket. The Seaweed Wrap* was on my needles for the Lace Along sponsored by Kate and Julia. It is an endlessly long project and seems a little daunting when there is other knitting to do. So, when Sarah Elizabeth decided to have a Knit Along for the Flower Basket Shawl I decided to do it for both KAL’s (Julia gave permission for the change). A fickle, efficient knitter I am.
After Charlotte’s success (success breeds success) lace is less intimidating and actually fun. The Flower Basket is a great project for someone who likes simple lace that works up into an elegant and beautiful item AND is a size that can be finished quickly. The alpaca is a soft gray and is more like a fingering weight, perhaps even a little heavier. Since the yarn called for is lace weight doubled this isn’t too far off. The gauge doesn't matter so much to me as I just want a small shawl to protect my neck from winter drafts. After this picture was taken I couldn’t help but knit on. There are now two of 7 repeats complete….it’s another seductive project on the needles.
*It will not be abandoned just will not be a main project right now.

I should be getting my yarn for the Flower Basket Shawl A Long soon! Since I never finished Charlotte, I hope I can at least do this one. I will conquer the lace.

The flower basket looks lovely. I made a wrap in grey alpaca yarn this summer, and there's a photo of it in my blog although the text is in Norwegian. I really enjoyed working with that yarn, and it looks like you do too. Have a nice time with it:)

The flower basket shawl looks lovely. I have that pattern and long knit it. Alas, it is still in Salt Lake. I shall practice patience and try to finish my Making Waves sock.

It looks great. Don't let your sister near it.

Hi,
Love your Flower basket shawl.....it is coming out lovely. Can you tell me....what the repeats in the red brackets are for? probably a dumb question...LOL

Hi Kim, I just finished my shawl and pondered the same question. The pattern doesn't explain how many times to or not to repeat that part but it works like this. The first 10 rows (pattern repeat) you just work it the graph 'as is'. The next 10 rows you repeat those stitches between the red lines once more. For each pattern repeat you do, you increase the number of times you repeat those stitches. Hope I haven't confused you further.
