Everyone Wins

We spent some time yesterday tallying up this year's Knit Unto Other's numbers and we're here to tell you that we're impressed.  We had 36 knitters donate 153 knitted items to 18 different charities.  You know what that deserves?  w00t!  w00t!  w00t!

In our book that makes everyone a winner but of course we do have contest winners to announce, too.  The winner of a wonderful fiberlicious gift from Margene is Elizabeth D (no blog).  The winner of a wonderful fiberlicious gift from Carole is Sara B.  MJ (no blog) will be getting a sheep print from Gale and Lu will be getting a $25 gift certificate from Anne at Wooly Wonka Fibers.  Finally, Ina and Grace were each gifted with two patterns of their choice from Kirsten of Through the Loops.  Thank you to our generous prize donors!

And thank YOU - each and every one of you - who knit for charity this November.  You accomplished something great and we're proud of you.

Results 2007!

Now is the time to tell us how you did with your charity knitting.  Send an email to knituntoothersATgmailDOTcom or leave a comment on this post and tell us you participated.  You don't have to tell us how many things you knit or where you sent them because you only had to participate to be entered into the random drawing.  However, it might be fun to add up all the different items that went out to all the different places so if you want to include that information, go on ahead and do that.

We'll award prizes next week so get those emails to us by Friday, December 7th, okay?  And, thanks to the generosity of Anne,Gale and Kirsten, they won't just be from Margene and I.

Let's hear it for the kindness of knitters everywhere!

Charities of Choice

Many knitters knit for charities all year long, but if you're the type of knitter who 'can't spare a square', consider this…for the last two weeks of November you can join in and knit just one little item (or more) and feel so much better about yourself.  It's a boost to the spirit to give; you can never go wrong, you'll always know one person benefited greatly from the warm hat, mittens, socks or gloves that you took the time to knit for them.  We've picked three charities for KUTO knitting this year.  Of course, you can always knit for any charity you like.

Lucy at Mind's Eye Yarn in Cambridge, is collecting mittens for the Somerville Family Network. Contact her at:  lucy at mindseyeyarns dot com

Soaring Eagles project this year is knitting mittens...you can read about it here.

Birdsong has asked for completed blankets in worsted or bulky weight washable yarn with a finished size of 30 inches square to 40 inches square, or a rectangle that is similar, for the Kare Crisis Nursery in her area.  If you're on Ravelry you can check for info here or contact Birdsong directly:  burrobird at gmail dot com.

The dates for participating are November 15-30th.

Near the end of KUTO we'll ask you to send an email to knituntoothers at gmail dot com and tell us what you knit and where you donated it. We will then randomly select two participants to win something special from us.  Now, go forth and knit unto others!

Thank you!!

Spread the Love 2007

This year we're going with a theme, It's the Little Things, with the goal of knitting mittens, hats or socks for children.
If you have a favorite charity that meets this criteria please leave a link in the comments.  We'll announce this Knit Along the first week of November and knit between November 15-30.  Thank you!

Knit Unto Others 2006

Carole and I are once again hosting Knit Unto Others the last two weeks of this month.  At a time when we enjoying large Thanksgiving dinners with family and friends, shop until we drop for the coming Christmas season, it will be good to step back and think of others who may not have enough to keep them warm.  The basics of life are very hard for some people, right here in this country to come by. A warm hat, scarf or mittens can do more than warm fingers and ears, it can lift someone up and show that someone cares.  Do what you can from November 18-December 2 and join our Knit Unto Others campaign.

Many knitters are generous enough to knit all year round for the charity of their choice and I have knit an item from time to time through out the year.  This KAL was started as a way to stay grounded at this time of over-consumption and excessive giving.  It is sad to see children, adults, students and others around the world suffering for lack of warmth or basic needs.

For every item you knit we'll add your name to the 'HAT' and names will be drawn for prizes.  The more you knit the more chances you have to win.  We'll be adding a list of prizes and charities to this post.  Please leave a comment here if you wish to participate. No need to 'sign up', just pull out the yarn and needles and start knitting, now or on the 18th.  Take the button for your blog, but please save it to your own server.  Spread the word and we'll get started on November 18th.
